Hi

Has anyone obtained their Visa in Turkey at the point of entry?

If I have a shore excursion booked can it be arranged quickly before I join the tour?

You do not need a visa for turkey if you arrive and leave by cruise ship. You are considered to be "in transit". If your cruise ends in turkey then you will be able to get the visa at the port you disembark.

You buy your visa, for cash, at the airport on arrival.

But, as Albert's answer, you don't need a visa if just visiting Turkey as a port-of-call.

Thanks both for info. I was informed that our cruise ship could arrange the visa for $49pp.

Has our Agent got it wrong?

Visa on arrival £10.

US passport-holders $20 on arrival, but around $45 when using an agency for a visa in advance (only advantage is avoiding a queue at the airport).

 

But yes, your T/A has got it wrong. If for instance you're on a cruise Venice/Venice, with stops at Istanbul or Izmir or Kusadasi or even all three, you don't need a visa.

 

I'm intrigued.

A cruise-specialist T/A should know this.

And why is your T/A quoting USD?:confused:

If you are paying for a Visa on arrival make sure that you have the exact money and all notes. Do not try to pay with debit or credit cards.

Someone once wrote that the authorities would only take a brand new £10 note......I don't know how true that is, but it's always stuck in my brain!:rolleyes:

I was once given a grubby piece of cardboard on a ship....NCL Jade, perhaps, which was a visa waiver for Turkey, but no-one was interested in looking at it.:(

Yes we are Brits and we are on Regent which quotes $'s

We were recomended to this TA but already have 'concerns. Our friends, who booked at the same time being charged more and we were charged a flight supplement for the same flight!

We had similar problems with another TA on our cruise last year. I am an experienced cruiser but so many of these TA's try it on.........

Have just checked the Consulate where it says a visa is required....can be bought at the port of entry. Maybe they have changed the rules recently?

So if you arrive and depart Turkey from another Country by cruise ship, whether you go on a day trip whilst at a port in Turkey, or sleep overnight on a cruise boat at a Turkish port you are covered.

 

The only time you need a Visa is if you arrive in Turkey by air then join cruise ship, or arrive in Turkey by cruise ship and then fly out .

 

So if you fall into Category 1 at home on the cruise ship calling at Turkish ports NO Visa required . If your TA is telling you otherwise they do not know what they are talking about . Get a new TA .

We visit Kusadasi first then onwards to Istanbul, overnight and return to UK from Istanbul and so we require the visa for our exit.

Unless anyone knows different...................

That makes all the difference. :rolleyes:

As posted by everyone, in those circumstances you do need a visa.

But you don't need it in advance, and you don't need to do it thro' an agency or pay more than the std rates quoted on this thread.

 

If I am wrong & you are marooned in Istanbul for the rest of your life, feel free to then come back on this thread and chastise me :p

:confused: I'm bringing back an older thread here. We started a cruise in Istanbul last year, arrived by air and got our visas at the airport. That was easy. We even did another cruise that called at Kusadasi and no visa was required because it was just a port of call. Now we're considering starting a cruise in Athens and ending in Istanbul, flying back to Canada from Istanbul. Can anyone please reconfirm that we'll be able to pay for the visa at the Istanbul cruiseport before we go the the airport for our flight home? The cruise overnights in Istanbul but just to clarify, after overnighting on the ship we'll disembark, ending the cruise in Istanbul and then fly back home from Istanbul airport. Thanks for any input!

I'll let you know in early June!

We are doing the same Athens to Istanbul. The cruiseline says they can get us a visa for US$50pp but the Turkish Embassy in London assures me that there is somewhere at the port where you can buy your visa for £10 (which is US$15pp).:rolleyes:

@Cruise Craig you will be able to pay for your visa at the Istanbul cruiseport BEFORE going to the airport. As a previous cruiser, the last thing I want to do when I get off the ship is standing in another line for a visa. You can alternatively get an e-visa from https://www.evisa.gov.tr/en/ The website is self explanatory and is from the Republic of Turkey, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. This seems to me the most efficient way to obtain that visa and off you go to the airport as soon as you disembark. Happy Travels. -Luis R.

@Cruiser Craig It appears that your profile says you are from England. U.K. Passport holders cost for a visa is $20 USD. U.S. Passport Holders is also $20 USD. However, Canadian Passport holders is $60 USD. The price will vary depending what type of passport holder you are. Hope this helps out others reading this thread.

I'm bumping this old thread as it's now 2016!

 

My on line uk TA says a visa is needed for visiting turkey, but the gov website says if you are a cruise passenger it's not! So which is it?

 

I always like to dot my i's and cross my t's and as my cruise starts/ finishes in Rome and I'm terrified of turning up at my Rome cruise terminal and being told I can't board as I don't have the right visa for the Turkey stops on the cruise!
