cb at sea Posted January 23, 2012 #2 Share Posted January 23, 2012 We've never needed ANY innoculations before a cruise to places like the Caribbean, Alaska, Mexican Riviera, Hawaii, etc....if you're going to some other country, especially where you might be spending significant time in the "wilds" of some 3rd world country, then ask your doctor! Rare broberts Posted January 23, 2012 #3 Share Posted January 23, 2012 It depends entirely on where you are going and your medical situation. For proper advice start with asking your family doctor (primary care physician). There are also travel medicine specialists who can provide advice. kasil Posted January 23, 2012 #4 Share Posted January 23, 2012 The CDC website is also a good source. It's cdc.gov the scroll down to travelers' health.
gerryl12 Posted January 23, 2012 #5 Share Posted January 23, 2012 If you are like my ex-wife you should get a distemper shot. Couldn't resist. . Actually there are very few place to go where you have to have shots but, tetnus, twinrix etc. are good preventative shots for everywhere. Check with the CDC. Rare Hlitner Posted January 23, 2012 #9 Share Posted January 23, 2012 As a general rule you do not need shots for most places in the Caribbean or Western Europe. Otherwise, you need to carefully check your itinerary against CDC guidelines or post here on CC and some of us can help. Hank
Donray Posted January 24, 2012 #10 Share Posted January 24, 2012 Somebody told me that we might need shots before our cruise...Is this true? If so, what? Why don't you say where you are crusing? Is it South America?
sail7seas Posted January 24, 2012 #11 Share Posted January 24, 2012 It's impossible to answer without knowing where you are cruising. For some itineraries, you absolutely must produce a shot record indicating you got specific shots or you will be denied boarding the ship. NOT just that you won't be permitted off in a specific port but they will not let you board and sail. This is something you should pay very close attention to depending upon where you are cruising. Krazy Kruizers Posted January 24, 2012 #16 Share Posted January 24, 2012 Years ago we were cruising to places other than the Caribbean and our doctor advised and gave us our Hep A and B shots. You should check with your doctor. He may suggest that you get a flu shot, pneumona shot and tetnus shots -- basic ones.
