Door signs?

I've seen some of you talented folk have created door signs for your cabins. The ones I'm interested in in particular are the ones where it is a picture of the ship, with your sailing dates, and maybe names of the members of your party.

Is this something you've created from scratch (and may be willing to create for me :D) or is there a website where you can do it? And what about having it laminated? How do you get it to stick/stay on the door?

Thanks in advance!

You can only use magnets as tape can ruin the door. I think most people just print a photo of the ship from the computer and do their own artistic additions. Be careful about putting last names on the outer door. Security wise, it's probably not a good idea.

I've never understood the need to do this - maybe it's because I've sailed on Cunard ships where it is just not done. People don't decorate their room doors when they stay in land based hotels. There is enough to worry about and organize without added door decorations to the list of things to do.

Dw is a retired elementary school teacher and thinks that decorating doors, doing skits at Meet and Greets (we have seen this), having gift exchanges, etc. remind her of kindergarten activities :). But some folks apparently do find this stuff fun (perhaps they are regressing to their childhood) and it certainly is one of those different strokes kind of things. Another thing that makes me smile are those that organize so-called "slot pulls" so that they can push buttons (there is nothing to "pull" on most slots) and jointly donate their money to the casino :) We think the slots of the future will allow you to simply insert your card, program the slot to run itself for a certain period of time (say 1 hour) and then you can return in an hour and remove your card from the machine with either a huge deficit or perhaps a rare credit. In fact, you might even be able to do this on your cabin TV so you don't even have to bother going to the casino to breath all the cigarette smoke (except on Celebrity where there is no-smoking).

To the bolded....clearly you've not been to Disney recently. No, not everyone does it, but it's just a fun little way to personalize your "home away from home."

I plan to decorate my cabin door on my Monarch cruise this coming Monday with photos of my Retired Racing Greyhounds. Why you ask? Two reasons.

1) I am taking my visually impaired Mother In Law on this cruise for her birthday. She has no central vision, but has peripheral sight. Instead of struggling to find our cabin, she will no trouble at all now. Best part is that she will not even realize that I have done this for her.

2) I promote Greyhound adoption whenever I can!

That just proves why there are so many different cruise lines. One person's paradise is another person's hell.

Interesting. And do you also do the same at hotels, motels and resorts?

What a lovely gesture for your Mother-in-Law!

I'm grateful this is not done on the line that I sail.

Think of all the $$$ the cruise lines could have saved instead of hiring interior designers and just letting their guests bring their own "touches from home" into the public areas. Think that couch near the purser's desk looks a little too institutional? A favorite afgan tossed over it will add a feeling of home. A bar looks too generic? Hanging up a few uniform jerseys from your favorite pro sports team will make it more like your favorite sports bar. All the dining room tables look the same? Bring your own table favors to make yours stand out.

Actually when we have a large Meet and Mingle Group and most of us are staying at the same hotel, YES, we do decorate our motel/hotel doors. This way we know that each one of us are part of the Meet and Mingle Group on that particular up-coming cruise.

I know I haven't posted here very much and am still quite a newbie, but I have to admit that I'm a little taken aback by some of the responses when considering my initial post was merely about where could I get a sign made.

If you don't like it, fine. As someone else said, different strokes for different folks. But, if you're response is more to the point of "how silly" or "I'm glad they don't do that on my ship", I beg to ask, how are you really contributing to the conversation in a helpful or friendly way?

Well I guess it's pretty harmless but certainly not for me.

There was a thread last month where some people went - pardon the pun - overboard on Christmas decorations. They used some red letter stickers like "Ho-Ho-Ho!" that left permanent bleed through discoloration on the stateroom and door panels. The do-it-yourself decorators will now be charged a few thousand dollars in damages because the panels need to be replaced.

Hey There ! I love to decorate my door. I have made magnets for all of my cruises so far. We have only sailed Disney so I don't know if it is just a DCL thing or if people do it across different lines BUT If you haven't found assistance with this yet send me an email and I will guide you ;)

OP...

Ignore all the grumpies!

Here are some photos of not just door "signs" but actual decorations. I found these photos on various threads using the search feature. Whether you make a simple sign or go all out with decorations, use your imagination and have fun with it,

I agree with you!! If folks don't like doing something, then that's fine!! It's very rude to post on here how you don't like doing this or that!! Just keep those kind of comments to yourself!!

Liz, If you send me your email, I'll be glad to send you some pictures of our door on our last cruise and some ideas you could do. Sorry that others here think it's not right to decorate doors/rooms. Actually on our last cruise, it was suggested to do it if you have younger kids as it helps them to find their way to their cabins since all the doors look alike.

I agree 100%.

I am not a sign on the door person, but your sign or anybody else's will not detract from my cruise experience. So go for i and ignore the nay sayers.

It appears that mine is definately the minority opinion on this topic - especially when the moderators circle the wagons around the OP. Ces't l'vie.

(But then I'm also one of the "grumpies" when it come to giving cabin stewards anything other than cash. From time to time posters will state that they find gifts a "fun thing to do".)

OP- please do ignore the negative comments especially when you arent even asking for people's opinions

I actually just used the programs that came with my computer. used a picture of the ship and then just inserted the words and designs I wanted

I haven't decorated my door in the past, but definitely have nothing against it :). In the past I have had people tell me they got their door decorations free at Vistaprint. I think they were actually large magnets. Might want to check that out, and have fun!!! :D

I think a door sign/decoration is fun, but I do believe the stewards and wait staff work hard to earn money, not to earn gifts.

Here is a thread that has lots of ideas you might be able to adapt to your sailing. You might post a request on that thread to see if anybody who has posted there would be willing to help you.
