Tape remains above my sister’s cabin though her quarantine ended early yesterday. I just counted 15 cabins with yellow tape on deck 12 and know at least two with no tape that were ill—my cabin 12717 and a friend’s cabin 12295, who just got sick at 1 am today. Perhaps they stopped applying tape after they decided to sanitize entire ship?? Took 27 hours for nurse to get to us and only then because I followed up multiple times with medical and guest services. I also told Loyalty Ambassador (LA) when he called to cancel bridge and galley tours. A nurse called after LA contact and believe it or not, she said if a nurse never came to see us, our illnesses were not reported and we were free to leave cabin, even though I told her we were not yet symptom free for 24 hours. We did not leave cabin until eventual nurse visit and clearance. At least the LA called your cabin to cancel the tour. A number of us heard nothing and showed up a appointed time, curious to see what they would do. A 27 hour delay? Sounds like they fumbled your initial contact badly; perhaps they noted incorrect cabinnumber or other error. Did the nurse not not show up at your cabin until you already passed/ nearly passed the symptom free interval?

( we were in a standard balcony and have high status with RCCL) Didn't matter, as we do walk off. Does C&A status (except for Pinnacle) dictate the debarkation number? I thought it was more accommodation driven. back to the topic - hope everyone will be OK m We got 50 something in a jr suite in November on oasis. The year before in a jr suite we got 14. Our room steward got us new numbers so we wouldn’t miss our shuttle.

Did the nurse not not show up at your cabin until you already passed/ nearly passed the symptom free interval? Correct. I became ill late Tuesday evening and was sick all night. Called medical at 9 am Wednesday morning, called again a few hours later when my husband became ill. Called again at 9 pm Wednesday, 12 hours after first call to medical and again 24 hours after first call at 9 am on Thursday. Had to go through guest services on Thursday because medical phone was busy or not answered. LA called sometime Wednesday afternoon/evening, I believe, and the unhelpful nurse called after LA contacted medical on my behalf. By the time nurse came around 11 am on Thursday, there were 4.5 hours until my husband would be symptom free for 24 hours and she released us both when his 24 hours were up. We needed no treatment by the time nurse visited but she left medications in case we experienced more symptoms when we started eating again. Does that mean it's not Norovirus??? Just odd that it wouldn't say Causative Agent Norovirus. I'm booked to leave on this ship on Sunday and am very concerned. That means that tests have not been done to confirm it as noro. As I said before, they used to have to send stool samples to the CDC or other lab for testing, but there are now field tests for noro. Whether RCI has decided to stock these, or not, or whether they are out of them, I don't know. I do know that the field tests are less accurate than lab testing, giving both false positives and false negatives, so that may be another reason RCI isn't using them. The only way to confirm noro is via stool sample testing.
RoperDK Posted January 11, 2019 #409 Share Posted January 11, 2019 This may be overkill. I'm almost afraid to ask, but has anyone ever used food service gloves when using the buffet? Wouldn't that provide an extra layer of protection? Wash your hands before entering the buffet. Put on the gloves and then remove them once seated. I've never seen it done, but have heard about it from the Princess boards. I take medications that compromise my immune system, so I am very cautious. Haven't been able to travel for a year and have a much needed cruise next month. We've disinfected our cabins and hotel rooms for years with Lysol spray and wipes, but I now know that it won't kill the dreaded Noro. Reader0108598 Posted January 11, 2019 #410 Share Posted January 11, 2019 (edited) If you are going to get the Noro virus you are going to get it Unless you bubble wrap yourself from home through out your flight and cruise! I don't care how careful you are you are going to touch something. I have a few auto immune diseases and COPD have only got the noro virus once in 39 cruises. I do nothing extra special that I would not do at home. Stay healthly all! Edited January 11, 2019 by Reader0108598

At the rate the numbers are increasing, there are bound to be new cases before disembarkation. Will they be put off the ship while actively ill? Dh and I both came down with noro the last night of our Indy cruise January 2018. We went to medical around 10:30 pm and got medication and filled out forms. It really surprised me that no one called the next day to check on us. They hadn’t notified our cabin steward, because he came knocking on the door around 8:30am to see if we had left yet and I told him we were both sick and would leave as soon as we were able. Our friends that were cruising with us were also sick the last night. They also told their cabin steward, so he could clean the cabin appropriately. It would have been great if we could have been escorted off the ship and not had to stand in the customs line for 30 minutes. Needless to say, it was a miserable two and a half hour ride home! Fitting name.. you are such a star for offering to look at cabins for us. We are still planning on disinfecting the room before using it, and take all the precautions possible! Not to mention monitoring how the cruise that is leaving Sunday fares (we leave on the 20th). Thank you to everyone who posted tips on what products are best. Now to find them cheaply... :) 1
