This sounds like the likes of a "Chair Hog" or someone who's child swims in the pool with swim diapers since the rules do not apply to them. I for one am taking scubagirls advice in several areas since I have never been to the Bahamas and would like to get as much out of my 8 hours there! Esp since I'm still trying to decide on a beach day, which hotel and how I'm getting the 8 of us there!

 

The easiest that covers most of what you need to please a group would be the Sheraton. It's $25 for adults, $12.50 for kids, and it's a quick 15 minute jitney ride to the hotel.

 

Take the #10 jitney from George Street .. (easy walk from the cruise port) tell the driver where you are heading and pay $1.25 pp. when you arrive.

 

Reverse to get back when you are done.

 

Sheraton has something for everyone. From zero entry and swim up bar pools, to wide beaches, inflatables on the beach, non-motorized water sports, jet skis and parasailing vendors to rent from, towels, bar and grill, restrooms and lifeguards.. even a casino.

snorkeling gear.. not scuba.. if i did say that.. it was a mistake on my part..

 

Sheraton has free snorkeling gear. You get to use it for 30 minutes. Enough time to enjoy the liminted sea life in the area.

Wyndham had a "buffet" but I think it was closer to $30 pp.

 

Was the buffet good? We have teenagers who like most buffet restaurants.... if I'm giving up the cruise food and paying $30 a person it had better be good!

We'll be in Nassau on Easter Sunday with a crowd of 18,000. I was all excited about taking the jitney to the Sheraton, but I'm afraid that-

 

A- with the crowds, and traffic, it won't be worth going. ( I believe we're in port from 8:30 to 2 ) and

 

B- the Sheraton will be somehow sold out. ( Though I've read here that doesn't happen)

If your worried - why not just go to Junkanoo beach .. its walkable.. and free.

I will be traveling on Carnival in May with six family members, including an 80 year old aunt and a 2 year old niece! Oh, and a pregnant sister! :eek:

We will have a stroller and a wheelchair. (My aunt walks well, but I'd prefer to have the wheelchair for her so she won't overdue it.)

I'm concerned that we won't be able to reach the Sheraton with all of our "equipment" before we get tired! Is the Jitney and taxi handicap accessible? How far will we have to walk to get to the taxi and bus and, once there, will they allow our stroller and wheelchair aboard? Also, are there sidewalks or somewhere we can safely walk to the taxi/bus stops? I would love for the family to be able to see the beach and swim in the water, but I don't want to bite off more than we can chew!!

You may want to call the hotel to see how accessible it is.. I always use the stairs to go out to the beach.. don't know how else to access it.

 

As for using a jitney.. I would pass. Not only would they not likely have room for your equipment, but then you would have to navigate getting from the bus stop to the hotel and up the gradient to the front door.

A taxi would drop you at the front door.

Taxi's are usually vans, so if your wheelchair folds up there would be no problem

 

As for junkanoo.. I'd take a cab as well.. there are areas that are missing sidewalks.. or sidewalks are broken.

 

Sheraton has chairs - day passes are $25pp.

Junkanoo is free, but you can rent a chair for $5./ a few loungers for $10 when available.

Generally speaking .. yes.. unless there is an event taking place.

It's usually easier to go from Sheraton to Wyndham than the other way around. Since sheraton is more likely to have an event.

 

You should be fine.

Sandals is a couples only resort on cable beach. You can get passes from the front desk for $110pp. I believe it's from 9am - 5pm.

Yes, that sounds right. To get there.. just hope on the #10 jitney and ask the driver to drop you off. It's $1.25 pp Jitneys' run back and forth every few minutes.

We did end up using the jitney to get there. On check in, I asked a front desk employee the price if we decided to cab it back. I was told $18 for the first 2 and $3 pp for each additional. No thanks.

 

So, when we left, we were walking back to the bus station when a cab driver pulled up and said, "Instead of taking the jitney, I'll charge you $2 per person and bring you right back to the dock." It was a steal and we took it.

 

One thing I'll mention ( as I was surprised, I thought I remembered that adults were considered 18 and over ) I was charged full price for my 2 - 15 year old girls. Not a biggie, but an extra $25.

Interesting - when we were there a year ago, taxis charged $4 pp, and the day pass for children was half price ($12.50).
