Liberty elevator

Recommended Posts

I have 3 small children so I always study deck plans ahead of time to determine best route to our frequently visited areas. We are staying all the way forward on the LOS (9220/9218)and I would like to know if there is a way to get to the H2O zone from the forward elevator without going through the solarium? Is there an outer walkway to take or should we go up to deck 12, cross back, then go down the stairs to 11?

If you go from the forward elevators on deck 11, you will have to pass through the Solarium. So as you mention, it maybe worth alighting from deck 12, walking along the deck where the jogging track is (and plenty of sunbeds) towards the aft, and you'll find steps down to the H2O Zone just after you have passed the main pool area from next to where this photo was taken.

You can see the steps I'm referring to in this photo towards the left hand side (the photo is taken from the bridge that divides the main pool and H2O Zone behind the outdoor movie screen).

Why not walk down the hall and use the center (main elevators) to go up to the pool area?

We could do this but I have read the forward elevators are not as busy as those mid ship and it is much nicer to walk where you can view outside than through a hallway of cabins :D

Thanks for the pics..this is exactly what I was looking for. I didn't notice the stairs by the zone on the deck plans until you showed me this pic..even better. I know I have read where parent's walk through the solarium with their children but IMO if it is for adults only, then it is adults only.

Go to the elevator that is nearest to your stateroom. Go up to deck 12, go outside and walk back towards the H2O Zone.

Adults Only Solarium: The "Adults Only" signifies those using the space to be 16 years or older. You won't get in trouble for passing through to get to the main pool area or the H2O Zone. I see families pass through there all the time.

Just walk through the solarium. Children can't use the pools or hot tubs there but there is nothing wrong in just passing through. Nobody will stop you from doing that.

I know people do this and they won't stop me but is it frowned upon by adults using the solarium? I don't mind walking down 1 flight of stairs IF it is politically incorrect to walk through.

Who said it is "frowned upon by adults"?

I have been on 4 Freedom ships and there is no rules about kids in the solarium.

You need to understand that people on this site make up their own rules sometimes...

Any adults who care about you simply walking through the solarium need to get a grip. The solarium is a major thoroughfare, and the only rules are for the use of the pools and hot tubs only, where it is for ages 16+.

Well, I find it quite refreshing that someone is concerned about the impact their children may have on the needs of other adults in an adults only area. ;). So thank you for asking the question but the fact that you have, probably means your kids are so well behaved they would put some adults to shame.

I say the OP should just do what she is most comfortable doing.

With that said, I don't believe there is any prohibition with escorting children through the Solarium, and I'm pretty certain most adults (at least those acting like adults) recreating in the solarium don't really care that the kids are just passing through as long as they are not screaming and running about the place like its the H2O zone.

I have seen many crazy posts on this site but I have never seen anyone plan their route to get from the room to the pool ahead of time.

I doubt you need to micro-manage your trip this much..

LMBO...I don't really NEED to plan it but I am an overcompulsive planner. I do this no matter where we go on vacation :) not sure if you have ever heard of tour guide mike for WDW , but my husband asked me if I had found a Tour Guide Mike for cruises yet :p. When we go to WDW I plan each day in the parks from dinner reservations to what we will ride and in what order we do those rides in order to miss the crowds. Our hotels are based on where we will spend most of our vacation time to minimize travel time. Seriously though, I just hate not knowing where I am going. If I want to grab a coffee, I want to be able to leave my cabin and go directly there. If I want a snack i want to be able to go directly to get my snack without having to get on and off the elevators because I went to the wrong floor. I know it may be crazy but I dont' like the unknown.

I have to say they are "relatively" well behaved but as children, you can't really predict their attitude from one day to the next day. I understand kids will be kids but if parent's don't put a limit to what is allowed then kids will over rule the parent's. There are only 2 people in control in my home, and that is myself and my husband. We aren't "strict" but we do expect respect and to learn when and where certain behaviour is expected or they will be removed from the situation regardless of how it interepts what we are doing. We have left restaurants more than once and our kids KNOW we won't hesitate to leave again.

I always learn deck plans before I cruise on a new ship. I like to know where things are. I think with cruising though it is a time to embrace the unknown. I like getting up whenever I want to, and just deciding there and then what to do. If you are trying to plan every single day on a cruise, that is not such a good thing. There are lots of activities in the Cruise Compass which you don't yet know about, and you might miss out. What if your kids want to spend some time in Adventure Ocean? I feel there is too much going on to strictly plan each activity, and I find it best to just go out and do whatever takes your fancy :)

I applaud you for asking this question. The truth is, there is nothing wrong with transiting the Solarium with the kids. Yes, it is adults only (to remain in there), but being it's between the elevators and main pools, it is perfectly within reason to walk through.

Otherwise, as already shown, just use deck 12. Enjoy your cruise. :)

But if as you say you always study deck plans ahead of time, have you not worked it out for yourself?

I did work it out for myself, realized I had to either go through the solarium or go up one deck then take stairs down. THIS post wasn't HOW to get there but simply if there was a walk around the solarium instead of having to go through an adult only area with 3 children. Peter answered my question by showing that there are actually a set of stairs (which I missed until his helpful photos) that come down to the splash pad area instead of having to go all the way to the aft stairs.

I want to thank all of you who actually answered my question about going through the solarium. As far as planning EVERY detail I don't do that on cruises but, again, I do like to learn the best/fastest way from our cabin to where we spend most of our time. My kids LOVED the kids program on Carnival and would beg to go and cry to stay but kids are like the weather in the caribbean during hurricane season, completely unpredictable.

we just got back from LOS with our 4 kids, ages 2, 4, 7, and 10. Our room was also in the forward part of the ship, and we were constantly traversing the ship to get to the aft areas for Adventure Ocean, H2O zone, etc. (I typically choose a room that is closer to where my family is going to be hanging out, but we opted for a Family Oceanview room, and for some reason on this ship, they are all in the front, and all the "kid stuff" seems to be in the aft. Glad they fixed that a bit on Allure/Oasis. But I digress...)

Since we were down on deck 2, we would either "cross" on deck 5 (royal promenade) or deck 11. When you take the elevator up to 11, there really aren't any signs when you get out of the elevator that say "adults only" - it's really more just by the solarium pool that's there. We just kept walking and didn't bother anyone. If you ask me, it's also something they "fixed" on the Allure/Oasis by putting the Solarium in a separate area that kids can't accidentally walk into.

I never got to use the Solarium, so I'm not sure if the constant flow of people walking back and forth was a nuisance or not. But I promise, we were quiet and didn't linger ;)

We have always done midship suites (different cruise line) but this time we are doing the balcony/ocean view adjoined rooms on deck 9. So how is the motion up front? We have never been sea sick but there is always a first for everything. Thanks for the information. Also are there dreamworks breakfast every sea day, can't seem to find a compass for the 5 nighters on LOS. Thanks again.
