Review of the Ruby Princess, April 1st sailing the eastern Caribbean

Thanks Chris for your review of the Ruby Princess! I have the exact same itinerary planned for a 11/11/12 departure! It was great to see your photos, review, advice, etc. Nicole loves any zoo so we are going to do the zoo and island tour on St. Maarten! It looks like a really nice excursion!

 

I want to say I also enjoyed your HA ms Eurodam review! The itineraries are very similar! I had considered that exact ship/itinerary before booking the Ruby Princess. Your review convinced me that I made the right choice!

 

I also like the fact that you are mixing it up with the cruise lines! So many folks never venture beyond what they are familiar with. You'll never know your favorite cruise/cruise line unless you try 'em all! Celebrity or RCCL is on my list next!

I agree about mixing it up and trying different cruise lines. I'm even considering trying the Norwegian Breakaway out NYC and doing a Bermuda cruise. That will probably happen in summer of 2014

Just a suggestion... if you have a cabin number already assigned to you, you won't have as good of a shot for the upgrade vs being in a guarantee. You'll be guaranteed nothing less than the mini suite, but your chances of being upgraded to a full suite will be much, much better

Hey there. Yeah I had cancelled my Allure cruise and then started to kick myself for doing it so I booked Oasis. I just have to try out the world's largest cruise ship.

 

But I'll be anxious to try out Silhouette and Royal Princess next year as well! :)

As a bonus.. Your photos were so good that I convinced my wife that a new camera would be a great father's day gift..:D

My husband and I took the Tarplum..lunch..Junaroo Dance Tour, and we loved it. it is one of my all time favorite Tours. I was surprised that the Island behind Princess Cays..was CLEAN. Flat. Space between neat homes..most with lawns that had been tended too.

the island took my breath away. Who knew..after just visiting Nassau and FreePort, how beautiful the Bahamas are in reality. I would recommend this tour to anyone.

If you are sailing on Dec. 29th...we are on the same cruise. I loved your review. Your pictures were beautiful. Like you, I loved the tour behind Princess Cay. I think the Young lady..your guide..and the older man..were also on my tour. They were just trying it out then, and a Representative from Princess rode the bus right in front of us. My Husband and I could not weave straw, we were the dummies on the bus, and had a good laugh. Long story short, when we got back on the bus..we just kept raving to the pretty, blonde headed young lady next to us. We had no idea she worked for Princess. So we raved to her about ..how we loved the people, the Island, it was clean, the oranges were like sugar ( and we live in Florida..we know oranges.) When we got back..the Older man was talking to her...he introduced her as a Princess Rep. and the Older Man hugged me. My HONEST enjoyment helped get that tour established, I think. The caves..where they take shelter when the hurricanes come, the litte townships and how they compete in the Junkaroo...I agree with you. I loved that tour. It was worth every penny.There was a sweet innocence about those people that you don't see much today. And I know that sounds silly. but I felt that way.

Odd...we had a cruse booked for Feb.2013 on NCL Epic. I cancelled that yesterday. The reviews are either really good. or really bad. Too many said the food in the MDR was so bad you were forced to eat in the Speciality DRs. A good friend told me they ran up a $1,000 bill what with wine and such every night. they can afford it, but still......

 

More photos of the casino if you could dig them out would be viewed with pleasure. I love Leaping Lemmings. Love that silly slot machine.

Princess allows pictures in the casino but warns about protecting players' privacy.

 

Just take your pictures in the off hours when hardly anyone is there and do not include the few people tehre in a pictures.

First off let me tell you that my personal cruise planner at Princess went way above the call of duty. She kept in constant contact with me and fought for a cabin upgrade which I did get, free of charge and what an upgrade it was. More about that as we go along. I'm not sure I can say her name on here or not so just to be safe, I won't.

Princess has banned all smoking on balconies and cabins. You can smoke on one side of the Lido deck, Skywalkers, the cigar bar and the casino on most nights.

I see your question about the smoking policy got answered. I apologize as I have just now got on here. I had answered that twice and for some reason, the posts were gone within an hour.

 

As far as the deck for a balcony? I would say deck 10 or higher but if the coveted aft view balcony is available, don't pass it up

I was getting all excited for my Nov 4th cruise on the Ruby. Then I snapped back into reality and realized that I have to work tomorrow. Oh well, at least it's Friday.
