Is it possible to set up two different accounts for the S&S? My new husband and I will be going on a honeymoon cruise next month and I am a little scared of his gambling habit. I would prefer to let him use his own checking account and me use my own, so he don't drain everything we have... is this possible?

 

He's a great guy...just REALLY loves to gamble and gets really wrapped up in it.

Yes, each person can have a separate S&S card, but make sure you sign up that way. Carnival has twice kept what was requested at sign up even though something different was requested once on the ship.

Yes. Just go to the front desk after you board. You'll probably have to give your credit card info when you first sign in - I don't think they're set up to take cash in the port area before you board.

you and he need to sit down and discuss this. Should have done it before. do you all have separate accounts now? You are in for a world of hurt, if you already can't quite trust him.

Forget the Disney Cruise, perhaps she should consider rethinking why she just got married to some one she can't trust.

You can definitely set up separate onboard accounts.

I cruise with a friend frequently, and each of our S&S cards is tied to our own account (and credit card).

And when I cruised with my son & his girlfriend, my account was tied to my credit card, and each of them had a cash account.

You can set up your account with a credit card, and pay down part of your balance with cash at any time. I took my mom on a cruise, and when the final statement came, I found she had made a significant payment on my onboard account as a thank you gift.

I'm a little concerned about your statement about each of you using your own checking account, though. I hope you're not planning to use your debit card to secure your onboard account; I have read accounts here on CC from people who have had problems with holds on their accounts that persisted after they disembarked the ship.

I get this. It's not about the trust, its the limits on the gambling. I need the same thing. :).

Maybe its hit or miss or depending on the banks but I've always used a debit card for my account and never had a problem

 

They will however pre-authorize like $500 as soon as they slide it, I guess I always spend more than that so I never have found out how long it takes to get back, now that I think about it

I wasnt asking for relationship advice, I wouldn't be marrying him if I didn't trust him. He KNOWS how he gets going gambling. He KNOWs he needs to set himself a limit, but if the money is available easily and gets in that mode, he will keep going.

 

I know all about message boards and people love to stir the pot, even when it isn't needed or their pot to stir. It's all good, no worries, some cant resist.:p

Totally possible we've even split it up one person used cash the other plastic. Just go upto the desk tell them you want your S&S on your CC and he wants his S&S on his CC OR each put down your own cash deposits if you want to go that route either way its no problem at all.

 

Just remember to take the correct card with you when you leave the cabin each day.
