End of Cruise Survey

We always complete the survey. On my last cruise on the W-dam on 4/1' date=' I actually had a letter waiting for me in the stateroom from the Hotel Manager stating, "...It has been brought to our attention that on a previous voyage, within the Guest Satisfaction Survey form, you identified several areas you feel we can improve upon...feedback from our Mariners allows us to gain insight into our guests' wishes and needs...", so they do actually read them. I always thought the surveys went into the circular file. LOL![/quote']

I have gotten that letter on every single cruise I have had since last March on the Nieuw Amsterdam :D When I got it then it had been almost 2 years since our last HAL cruise so thought hmmmm maybe I stated something negative. But then our May Westerdam cruise to Alaska last year was amazing everything had a 9 and I said PERFECT!!! in every box. So sure enough I get one my next HAL cruise on the Oosterdam to Hawaii and what do I get, the same letter  I had it again this past cruise.

So basically that letter just goes in the circular file too.

Now I will say that I have filled out each and every survey on board our HAL ships but I also hear last year that HAL is looking to change this and go to the On-line survey after you return home. (Many other cruise lines have gone to this)

I personally would prefer this, on a side note I set up my last cruises CC Meet & Greet and to my surprise a few days after I got home there was a survey emailed to me asking about the set up for my group and how the ship handled it. So this may be a step into what we will be seeing in the future.

Is there anyone here who does not always complete and turn in your end of cruise survey?

Is it a habit/pattern of yours to not fill it out?

If so, why?

I always complete and turn in my end of cruise survey! On my recent Noordam cruise, I did not receive the survey until 4:50 p.m. the day before disembarkation! :( I wish that it could have been distributed earlier as there are a lot of things to do, like packing, about that time! As well, for the first time, smoking questionnaires were not distributed!

At least you got a survey on the Noordam.

We haven't had that smoking questionair since last summer.

I agree the 'begging' for good scores is unpleasant. We NEVER heard any of that on HAL as little as two or three years ago but it seems to be seeping in. The Cruise Directors are being a little too forceful at the Disembarkation Talks in their requests for 9's IMO.

I am curious, though, about those who as a rule do not complete or turn in the surveys. I've always wondered why.

Right -- about 3 years ago the crew -- especially the dining room staff started "begging" for "9's". I don't like that.

And neither of us have ever given all "9's" on a survey.

We usually do, but there have been a few times when we did not.

When we have something to say, either pro or con, we are motivated to fill it out and comment on whoever/whatever impressed us or disappointed us.

We are unlikely to bother when things go pretty much as expected and there is nothing exceptionally good or bad.

There is not much incentive to fill one out only to say that everything was okay.

I always turn in a survey, and typically I always make comments, positive and if indicated negative. I'm a military guy, and I absolutely believe if I'm going to compliment someone, I want them to know where it came from. Likewise, if I have a criticism to make, someone needs to know who's making that criticism. ;)

DW and I always fill out the survey. I try to be scrupulously honest in my grading. I haven't heard a word the cruise director may have said in begging for scores for many years ---- so, that's not an issue for me. I am a tough grader. However, I have had very few complaints, and accompanying low scores in 20+ years of cruising. Getting a 9 from me would be high praise. OTOH, getting a 5 or (shudder) a 4, should condemn that person to the guillotine. ;) I've never given a 5 or 4 for anything yet, and don't expect to.

We always fill out the survey ... I pay more attention to giving detailed comments than my spouse. Don't ever recall any crew begging for 9's or high marks ... but our cabin attendant on the Maasdam, when he delivered the survey, had a smile on his face and said something like "I hope you will not get me into trouble." Of course not. If we had any issues with him, which we did not, we would have handled them properly in the course of the sailing.

His comment made me wonder what kind of retribution crew face if they get a less than stellar rating. Does it impact their continued employ, ruin their chances for a chance at a promotion or a plum ship and itinerary? Only Seattle knows for sure.

I used to fill out the form and take the time to write detailed comments. The last few HAL cruises I was not inspired to fill it out, I feel that the budget cuts have affected the overall quality of the food and service and no ratings or comments are going to change that. I still enjoy HAL but it is what it is:rolleyes:

No, I didn't fill out the survey on our HAL cruise. I wanted to enjoy my last day and just didn't want to spend that time filling out paperwork. I would certainly fill out a survey if it were sent to me after I'm back home.

I also received an email after I was home about the Meet & Greet that I had set up. I did respond to that.

I don't know if it's true, but a waiter on another line (NCL, maybe) told us that any survey not completed was considered to be bad marks. One waiter supposedly had a table full of college kids. They couldn't be bothered with their questionnaires. Next cruise, this waiter had one of his tables taken away. This was back when tipping was all in person, so he stood to lose some money. As I said, don't know if any of this is true. But I do wonder what they think a blank or missing survey "means" in terms of customer satisfaction.

I returned my survey on the ship and have received two email surveys since my return, as well as a phone call from HAL which I haven't yet had the time to return.

Don't know why they're calling me, as I had all EXCELLENT marks except for entertainment. I really enjoyed the Eurodam.

As well, for the first time, smoking questionnaires were not distributed!

According to Captain Albert (answering a passenger's inquiry on the Statendam in March) HAL is moving very slowly towards non-smoking everywhere. If that's true, then they've made their decision and don't need anymore input.

We justs left Maasdam and heard the same thing aboard. I got the impression it is only a matter of a short time until smoking will be banned on verandahs.

The only place we were bothered by smoke was the casino so, once again, we were not able to gamble much. I think we only went for a short time one night. Many people said they also avoided the casino because of the smoke.

I think there are many who go to the casino mainly because they can smoke there. One night on Maasdam we were at slot machines near the door where there we no smokers close to us. A man came in, lit up, and stood around blowing smoke at us as he puffed a cigarette rapid-fire, then left without spending a dime.

HAL likes to hear the good with the bad. Perhaps your reasons why you LIKED the cruise and gave it EXCELLENT marks will help them with other ships.:)

The smoking surveys are a waste of time. They have been around forever, and nothing is ever done.

Actually HAL is now charging you $250 for their special deep cleaning process when you smoke in the cabins.

Remember that as of Jan 15 -- HAL stopped people from smoking in the cabins.

It has been a couple of years or so since my last cruise and I don't remember anyone begging for 9's. However, if that became the rule, and was repeated, I would definitely mark down for it and mention how unpleasant I find it when filling out my survey.

I dislike it intensely at car dealerships when I go in for service and would feel the same on a cruise. Honest, you will know long before the final survey if I"m unhappy. But, I can roll with an awful lot of punches and rarely can remember anything BAD by the end of the trip. Other than that they will make me get off the ship the next morning.

I thought that, too, Yonnie. And, when on the Maasdam from January 13 to January 27, and smelling smoke each day after Jan 15 while walking down our hallway, I finally went to the Front Office to have clarification on the policy. The policy was for cruises that began January 15 and beyond...those in progress were out of luck!
