Costa Rica

We are interested in finding a cruise that would stop in Costa Rica. I've researched and found HAL out of SF to Ft Lauderdale in Oct. Are there any round trip cruises from the west coast? I can't seem to find much more and am looking for any suggestions etc. Thanks!

Look at Princess for the Panama Canal cruise. We went with them in 2006. It was r/t Ft. Lauderdale. I'm not sure if they do the same one yet. It did include Costa Rica and it was in Oct. We picked it because of that port and loved the cruise. We would do it again!

Thanks, we are actually looking for a r/t from San Francisco or San Diego. We live in Northern CA. We have had a very bad experience with Princess so we prefer to never cruise with them again. We are open to any other cruise lines tho!!

Which side of Costa Rica?

Generally the only cruises that stop in either side of Costa Rica are the Panama Canal cruises. You can do 10 day round trips out of Florida, or 12-15 day trips that start on one coast of the US and end on the other.

For a round-trip out of the West Coast, you would have to go a 28 day or so Canal cruise, or one of the few 20+ day cruises that go down the West Coast to South America and back.

Princess is the only line based out of San Francisco right now, but a few others start occasional cruises from there. Many cruise lines operate out of LA, Long Beach and San Diego.

HAL has some but you are looking at over 29 days they go down to Lima and back to San Diego

Usually when a ship leaves San Diego or Seattle and goes through the Panama Canal, it is a repositioning cruise (to take the ship to Florida for the winter Caribbean season) and won't be coming back until the spring. I don't know of any RT cruises.

Holland America

The Statendam does several round trip cruises out of San Diego to Ft Lauderdale and back to San Diego -- 28 days.

Once in a while the Statendam will do a 31 day Inca cruise round trip from San Diego where is stops at Puerto Caldera on day 22.

HAL doesn't have any shorter cruises that stop at Costa Rica that are round trip out of San Diego. And there is nothing from San Francisco.

Many cruise lines are now committing a ship to Panama Canal one ways during the winter, and of course a round trip brings you back to your starting point. However, it is nearly impossible to do this in less than 28 days.

Even the "partial" Panama Canal cruises usually stop in Costa Rica....we did! Pretty!

From the west coast they do not do partial cruises in the Canal

The OP wants to leave from the west coast not Florida
