Where are the Carnival Fans???

No. You don't get to set the guidelines as to who can post what, the owners of this board and on their behalf the moderators do.

You don't like it, you can go back to Heald land.

Seems like there is always change in life, some for the better, some for the worse, most is a matter of the opinion. I had an office manager who was happily married to her husband for 30 years but they had both gone through bitter divorces prior to meeting each other. She always said "one mans trash is another's treasure". Thats the way it is for alot of things. Certainly things have changed at Carnival. Some things changed because they couldn't afford to provide it without raising prices higher than they wanted to. Somethings changed because some of us WANTED the change. For instance, the Karaoke. They used to have maybe an hour of Karaoke per day, if that. Now they have Karaoke for 2-3 hours in evenings and sometimes for an hour in the afternoon so that children can participate if they wish. They also added the Guest show/Legends show and the Superstar Live. These changes are probably disliked by some, yet the room is always packed at Karaoke, superstar live and the Guest show so many people evidently really liked this change. Its pretty universal that people liked the band on the pool deck, the free drinks at Captains reception and the Fun Farewell party but I think these were instances where the budget just wouldn't support it and unlike the USA, Carnival can't just print their own money or borrow it from China.

Print money???...do you know how much money they made last year??

Cutbacks are so they didn`t have to raise prices....and still make the big bucks...it is a business.

I like some of the changes...do not like others as you stated it is personal preference...but do agree if people don`t like any of it move on

Gee, I don't know if they are still making the same profit margins. I assume they are trying to do so as their stock holders would be unhappy if they don't. Any of you own stock? Has the value of the stock gone up or down or remained static in the past year. Most people's/company's investments have had less than stellar returns so I had assumed Carnival faced these same challenges.

You know what really surprises me is that there are SO many people here in the Carnival section that dislike Carnival! Not that you don't have every right to participate in ANY thread you wish. I'm just surprised there are so many who come to this section to express their displeasure about Carnival. Is this a routine thing? Do folks go to the NCL section to trash talk NCL? Although I've cruised with them 4 or 5 times, I've had some poor experiences that made me quit cruising with NCL. I'm sure many people love them but because I don't, I don't think I have ever been to the NCL section of CC! So I guess I'm curious why many seem to come to the Carnival section to tell of their dislike of Carnival. Oddly there seem to be very few who actually like Carnival, yet by industry standards they are one of the most successful cruise lines so SOMEONE MUST LIKE THEM! Just wondering what the motivation is for a non Carnival fan to even visit this section???

I'm not a Carnival hater and have only cruised Carnival once (actually had a great time). I don't have immediate plans to cruise with them, but I do look at the boards for all lines I'm interested in. If I have cruised with them, have questions, or have any comments to contribute, I will do it. I like to know current news with the lines that I follow, and you can get a lot of information from the boards. So, that being said, I can see why people would frequent the boards of a line that they don't particularly care for. They can still have things to contribute to the conversation, right?

We're in the middle of a recession, prices on everything have been rising, people have less discretionary money ... and the cruise prices have stayed the same pretty much. Something has to give.

Are there changes that I am not happy with? Sure. I loved the live Caribbean music on the Lido deck. There are others. But all cruiselines pretty much have cut back in different areas.

Carnival is still offering me the chance to sit on a nice boat, with fun activities, takes me to amazing ports to see tropical delights, where I can get off and have amazing experiences. The food is still good, there is plenty of fun to be had on board ...

I can understand not liking some of the changes. I can't understand the hate and lack of understanding, or the acting like the current product is not a quality value - it is.

Very well said! In this economy Carnival's current product is a quality value. Not what it used to be but the value of what everything is today it is spot on.

I love cruising on carnival. I may not be a "typical" carnival cruiser: I've never stepped foot in the casino; I only have one mixed drink a day; I don't smuggle booze;I don't go to the hairy chest contest; I'm not a chair hog, in fact I rarely sit by the pool or get in it.

I love the value I get from my cruise. I love being rocked to sleep at night. I enjoy the productions in the showroom. I like eating in the MDR. I enjoy talking to the crew. I like looking at the ocean. I like meeting new people from all over the world.

Carnival has ports closer to where I live so I can drive to ships. I can afford to go once or twice a year. And its a lot more relaxing than going to a Theme Park.

That is me exactly Alabamaprincess! I have been on 6 cruises, all on Carnival, with my 7th booked next month. I just love cruising! It's not about how much I can drink, gamble, etc...I just love getting away on the water and seeing ports that I wouldn't otherwise visit because I prefer not to fly. Carnival provides exactly what I need at a price that I can afford, and for that, I am grateful.

IT seems people like to incite more than I remember in past years. ......

they aren't just posting, they read more along the intent of trying to incite a negative reaction.

You are right, but it's not just on Cruise Critic, it's on most forums. Forums allow folks to say negative comments with little risk of harm from personal confrontation. How many of us would really like to say what we think to someone rude in person but are held back by the respectable social decorum (polite manners) expected of us. Forums take away the barrier of accountability because there is little risk of being labeled antisocial or physical harm from anything we say.

It’s a sad state of our culture, but I don’t see how it can change because there is no motivation to not be jerk. It gives some folks sense of power that can't be equaled in their personal life. Look as some of these folks, they are on the computer all day long.

The best we can do is model kindness and self control even when we are critiquing or giving a different opinion.

I’ve been cruising Carnival and other cruise lines for a long time, but the changes I’m seeing are driving us to consider and compare other options. Is that really a bad thing? I don’t think so because all of us have a personal expectation of value for a product we purchase. Its not a good or bad expectation, just different. Some folks just don’t want to pay for a balcony they will never use. The balance comes when the product is left on the shelves because it’ doesn't compete in value with the rest of the market. Carnival hasn’t reached that point yet.

Just want to point out, there is nothing wrong with lurking, it's just someone that reads the posts and doesn't really respond or get into exchanges.

Trolling is a different story, it's someone that takes malicious joy in getting something started on the boards for their own sad little game.

When duck said something about lurking it wasn't disrespectful or mean, and I've seen him stand up for Carnival often, somehow this day has turned into a bash Duck and Halos fest, I for one respect their opinions, they are experienced cruisers that can offer good, honest advice.

Carole

I wasn't specifically calling out that one post...just that people use the term Lurk often the same way they use troll or cheerleader. It's put in a sentence with a negative connotation such as implying they have to right to post because they "only lurk around". My issue is when people insert terms to incite negative feelings. It feels like they can't express their opinions without resorting to name calling, rhetorical questions, or personal attacks.
