Brad1185 Posted August 13, 2012 #126 Share Posted August 13, 2012 Glad to see the updated menus. Hopefully the quality will stay up as well. Previous quality was as low as you could get. The food selections look very good. They should have never let the mdr get so bad and should have done this years ago. At least they did something. My only complaint from looking at the menus is seeing the $$$ on a menu in the mdr.
Merion_Mom Posted August 13, 2012 #127 Share Posted August 13, 2012 Well after reading through the new menus, I can see that my husband is going to love them, and I am going to be hungry. I am allergic to fish with the exception of salmon with cod being my most allergic. I used to have plain grilled salmon at least twice each cruise - now it is done in a manner that I will not like. I also cannot eat cheese or cream sauces so there go a bunch of other stuff. I am glad to see the shrimp cocktail each night so that is a plus. Looks like it will be the alternate menu chicken for me on several nights. :( You can always ask for an entree without the sauce. If salmon is on the menu with a sauce that you don't like/can't eat, just ask for the salmon "plain". They will be happy to accommodate you. britty1 Posted August 13, 2012 #128 Share Posted August 13, 2012 We just returned from the Freedom. I have taken pictures of the menus but only a few food porn shots. As soon as I can I will get them down loaded. In the mean time it is faster for me to type them. Every day was a different theme. Sunday MOJO Strawberry Kiwi and Pineapple Smoked Fish Rillettes Eggplant and Artichoke Tart Toasted Farro and ALamb Broth Asian Coconut Seafood Soup Watermelon Pudding Spinach Salad Main courses Steak and Spinach Salad Seafood Spagehetti Horseradish Crushed Fillet of Atlantic Salmon Mojo Marinated Grilled Pork Chop Slow jRoasted Prime Rib Soft Shell Tortillas Moist Almon Cake Carrot Cake Blueberry Peach Crumble Low Fat Mango Pudding Sugar Free Strawberry Charlotte Wow, thank you so much for posting the entire menu - so I did not see any Lobster, so first they take away Escargot, now they seem to have taken away the Lobster, looks good but a bit dissapointed

ryano Posted August 13, 2012 #132 Share Posted August 13, 2012 Wow, thank you so much for posting the entire menu - so I did not see any Lobster, so first they take away Escargot, now they seem to have taken away the Lobster, looks good but a bit dissapointed:rolleyes: Escargot was taken away because of a worldwide shortage and as clarea has pointed out, the lobster is part of the fishermans platter on the second formal night :) The scallops gratin dish replaced escargot. Its the very same dish but only with small bay scallops. Its pretty good.
Coralc Posted August 13, 2012 #133 Share Posted August 13, 2012 I suppose I could google it.... but what's a Barramundi? :) Is it a fish? Pan Fried Fillet of Barramundi
summersigh Posted August 13, 2012 #134 Share Posted August 13, 2012 If ya'll read farther back in this thread you'd see where escargot is now available every night and that lobster is on the fisherman plate on a formal night. It puzzles me that with all the choices on cruise ship menus that a body can't find something to their liking - understanding that it's not a 5 star dining establishment. ..... just sayin';) I personally enjoy the variety (and not having to cook) :)
crazy 4 cruising Posted August 13, 2012 #135 Share Posted August 13, 2012 I was also on the Freedom and very much enjoyed the new menus. Thanks for posting Betsy. I did take pictures of all of them. are those menus for all rccl ships? thanks for all your hard work\\please advise thanks they are trying out the menus on the Freedom. Not sure, did nto hear, when they plan to open it up to the rest of the fleet. I suppose I could google it.... but what's a Barramundi? :) Is it a fish? Barramundi is a fish from Australia. It is on the menu in portofinos. I had it the night it was on the regualr menu and it was OK. very mild fish
ryano Posted August 13, 2012 #136 Share Posted August 13, 2012 If ya'll read farther back in this thread you'd see where escargot is now available every night :) Thanks, because I missed that. I guess the worldwide shortage we heard about was either a hoax or suddenly there are more snails available. I am curious though why the scallop gratin dish is still being offered if escargot is back. I totally agree with your last statement about being puzzled that people cant find something to their liking in the MDR

spg112357 Posted August 13, 2012 #138 Share Posted August 13, 2012 You know before the Cruise Critic became really popular and not too many people (only we true Geeks) used the internet, a preview of the menu meant that you walked back to the MDR about an hour after lunch was finished and you could see what was on the menu for dinner. It was kind of a surprise. At one time the description of Strawberry soup would have made me laugh. Who would eat a soup made from Strawberries? Why would anyone want an Onion Tart? And what about Escargot, eating snails!!! Yuck. Well because I found my self sitting at a table with a group of seven or eight other people and because I had such a great day and had put on my Tux for dinner and all the other people looked so elegant, especially the ladies, you know I just thought I would step outside the comfort zone and try some of those things that sounded so strange. And guess what I liked them. Now we look at a menu that someone post a month, six months, a year ahead of when we are going to eat the food. We say how did it taste? And we judge based on hearsay, based on one or two people's opinions. We all have our own tastes. Something like Baramundi may taste bland to one person but to someone else may taste succulent with a faint essence of something or other that just excites the depths of the pallet. The only way I can tell you if the new menu, or any menu for that matter is good for me is to taste the food. The great thing about a cruise is I can order two appetizers, a salad, an entree and if I like it get a second one, if I don't like it I can ask for something else. I can have a desert and the cheese plate. And at the end of the meal I can say to the table of eight "I'll pick up the check". It does not matter how many glasses of wine I have or cognacs, I have a designated driver, well actually a team of them. I will tell you if the menu I have on the Oasis is good for my pallet on the week of September 10th, that is when I will be back from my cruise. JillLovesTravel Posted August 13, 2012 #143 Share Posted August 13, 2012 Thank you very much to the OP for taking the time to post the information about the new menus. Hate to be a negative Nelly, but I was very excited when I heard the news about the possibility of RCL upgrading their food quality and menu choices. Sorry if I am among those not too happy with the apparent results so far. We were on Oasis earlier this summer and only ate in the Dining Room 2 nights (oh and we did My Time and pre-paid our tips in case anyone attacks us for skipping the last night and avoiding paying tips, lol). We decided to eat in the MDR on both formal nights thinking that is when they usually have the best Menus. On all other nights we did Chefs Table, 150 Park, Chops two nights and Giovanni's. Needless to say we were extremely let down with the quality of the food in the MDR after eating in the other venues. Let me explain that we have been on over 20 Royal Caribbean cruises, we are D+ and get those amenities. For a relatively small amount of money we can upgrade our dining experience and will continue to do so in the future when we cruise alone or with friends. The discounts afforded us and the free nightly happy hour more than make up the difference in cost for the two of us to dine exclusively in the specialty restaurants. That is probably the result of the RCL marketing strategy.
ksmdcruisin Posted August 13, 2012 #144 Share Posted August 13, 2012 Thanks so much for taking the time and effort to post all of this! If you could see me, I have a smile that goes from one ear to the other. I´ll be on the Freedom in October with my parents and food is a big topic. A new menu will give my father something to think about until then!
Wriggler Posted August 13, 2012 #145 Share Posted August 13, 2012 Been many reports here of being able to get eggs benedict every day in the MDR during breakfast :) its not on the menu anymore but they will get it for you if you only ask for it. We had eggs benedict on the menu everyday when we were on Adventure 3 weeks ago - and we enjoyed it every day too :D
BGCruiser85 Posted August 13, 2012 #146 Share Posted August 13, 2012 Glad it isn't just me the new menus sound awful there are a few nights where nothing appeals. I have to say that's where I'm sitting as well. I've always enjoyed the old menus and never had a single complaint about the MDR food. The choices offered as described are not me or my wife's cup of tea. I'm hopeful this will NOT be deployed to Allure by Sep 2. If so, we'll give it a shot and try to keep an open mind.
