Shake Posted August 20, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 20, 2012 Is Royal Caribbean getting closer to prohibiting smoking on the balconies? I've been on Celebrity quite a bit lately and enjoy their policy of no smoking on balconies. Is that coming to RCCL?
mark290 Posted August 20, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 20, 2012 My guess, based on no information or inside knowledge, is yes. Common sense would seem to be that it is a when, not an if.

Aquahound Posted August 20, 2012 #4 Share Posted August 20, 2012 It's not a matter of if. It's a matter of when. However, I suspect the wider demographic cruise lines, such as RCI, will be last hold outs.

I've been on Celebrity quite a bit lately and enjoy their policy of no smoking on balconies. Is that coming to RCCL? Funny that you should ask. I was talking to Adam Goldstein this morning. He said a fleet wide smoking ban goes into effect tomorrow. Smoking will not be permitted anywhere, anytime on any RCI ship.
beardedladies Posted August 20, 2012 #7 Share Posted August 20, 2012 One area they have made no smoking, was The Labyrinth nightclub on Independence of the Seas, we sailed in May this year, it made the nights spent in there very pleasant and it was packed, normally it was empty! , shows smoking is out of favour .... Merion_Mom Posted August 20, 2012 #17 Share Posted August 20, 2012 Frankly, I doubt that it is coming any time soon. Not until smoking is truly a societal "no-no". It is a cautionary tale: In Atlantic City, a new casino just opened. It was suppposed to be a "game-changer", a huge player in the city, the spark of a new revival of their casino industry. Instead, it is already close to bankruptcy. One of the primary reasons cited? It is completely non-smoking.

Farmercity Posted August 20, 2012 #19 Share Posted August 20, 2012 Ban smoking on a ocean view balcony room, will not happen for the foreseeable future! Its an open air area, who does it bother other than the ones that look for anything to complain about!! I don't understand why people don't just enjoy the vacation and allow others to do the same... Patty00 Posted August 20, 2012 #21 Share Posted August 20, 2012 I sure hope so! I agree! No smoking on balconies is costing RC and they are losing bucks. I know folks who are not getting balconies because smoke travels to the next balcony....theirs!! If they can't open their balcony door...then why get a balcony? I do feel however, that the area's outside the Windjammer and some other area's should remain for smokers!

It bothers the people who book a balcony room to enjoy the fresh air and views, and end up having to run into the room everytime next door decide to light up. the smell is discusting. On our recent trip, there were obviously somkers in the room previously (possibly not closing the balcony door when out there smoking because the room stank. I hear you but let's do it this way. No smoking allowed on the balconies. You don't have to smoke. Don't look for something to complain about and just enjoy your vacation. P&C4/16/67 Posted August 20, 2012 #24 Share Posted August 20, 2012 Won't change until non smokers boycott RCCL. Most smokers will sail other lines if they go the way of X and Prin. Smoking can't bother you that much if you keep sailing them. They know that.

After he accomplished that feat, all meals will be cut except for one afternoon snack of carrots and celery! BUMMER, eh?
