take us away Posted July 7, 2016 #27 Share Posted July 7, 2016 No wonder I can't find a 5 Star Mariner pin on EBay! I have a 5-star pin - there are a lot of us under the new category which opened a few years ago. Hope to get my 1400 actual sea days in a few years. Was recently on a cruise where Arnold mentioned there are <50 President's Club members but only about 25 still cruise. More are 'enrolled' each year so the numbers fluctuate. Cave Divers, (Scott and Karen) you were there, did I remember correctly??
Krazy Kruizers Posted July 7, 2016 #28 Share Posted July 7, 2016 On our spring cruise there were 4 President Club members. But now I am confused. At the Awards Ceremony they mentioned that you had to have 1500 Actual sea days before (and if) you are invited to be in the President's Club. Tennessee Titan Posted July 7, 2016 #30 Share Posted July 7, 2016 I thought that there was a difference between Presidents Club and 5 Star Mariners. Surely someone knows if this is correct: Presidents Club -- 1100 days -- and only by invitation. 5 Star Mariners -- 14oo days. First my congratulations to the Presidents Club members. I have sailed with a few. It is truly a great goal in life! The 5 star mariner pin is awarded after 500 TOTAL days (including actual sailed, suite bonuses, purchases etc). The only TANGIBLE benefit is 1/2 off on internet. The real tangible stuff occurs at the 4 star level(300 TOTAL days) - 1/2 off on wine packages and specialty dining, free laundry. It seems to me that 5 star should be worth more.
SilvertoGold Posted July 7, 2016 #31 Share Posted July 7, 2016 (edited) All 5 stars receive all the 4 star rewards plus: 2 complimentary Pinnacle dinner: $29 x 2 = $58.00 One complimentary cooking class : $29.00 One complimentary spa pass: $29.00 (the last time I used it) 50% discount on the 100 minute internet package So, about $140 pp plus the 4 star rewards each cruise. Note: 4 Star is 200 days plus spending, suite bonus. Medallions are all based on actual days --- Copper 100 days, Silver 300 days, Gold 500 days, Platinum 700 days, then Pres Club at 1400 days (pin). What I am curious about is -- people keep saying 1400 days for the Presidents Club and on our recent Westerdam cruise, the CD said it took 1500 Actual Sea days to maybe get invited to the President's Club. So what is it? 1400 days or 1500 days? Edited July 7, 2016 by Krazy Kruizers

We are now over 60 members; you need at least 1,500 days now....about half of the club no longer sails and Chris and I have defected to Viking Oceans and to get from the East Coast to Honolulu for most of the winter of 2017 will sail in Oceania's INSIGNIA. Viking's upcoming 141 day world cruise IS longer and costs more $$$ than the AMSTERDAM's 2018 world cruise but includes much more - only 5 cabin types (with subsets within grades plus owner's suite) - all outside with balcony - NO inside cabins - like all port taxes, charges and fees, tips (as does the AMSTERDAM) unlimited wi fi internet, laundry (I think) no cheesy fun fun fun Carib cruise atmosphere and buy a drink and keep the tall glass and paper umbrella, NO art auctions but instead, wine and beer are included at lunch and dinner...etc etc...and more PLUS NO charge for the Italian restaurant or Chef's Table...NO casino, no kids, no for those who have the time and money it's a much better deal than almost any other world cruise...so we're gone from HAL... Rare WCB Posted July 7, 2016 #35 Share Posted July 7, 2016 As of May 2016, the number of pure sea days to be in the President's Club was 1400. Unless it has changed from May until now, it is news to us. According to Gerald B, there were about 50 members, but only about 40 active. We had a total of 20 or so on the 2016 world cruise. CaveDiving Posted July 8, 2016 #37 Share Posted July 8, 2016 Are there any President's Club members among the Holland America Line Cruise Critic regulars? For my Holland America Line history website (http://www.halpostcards.com/unofficial) I am trying to get an image of the lapel pin and an understanding of the Christmas presents that have been given to the members by the Line. If anyone can/wants to help me, I would appreciate it.Thanks Tiemen The President's club is not usually discussed. In the words of one CD, it is probably he worst kept secret in he Cruise industry. However, to help out the OP, below is the President's club pin. Scott & Karen

That is what I am thinking as well -- that HAL has changed the number of days. Well -- I am really not worried about it as we know we will never get to either 1400 or 1500 actual sea days. boze9999 Posted July 9, 2016 #42 Share Posted July 9, 2016 I know that I'd really be interested in knowing how many Presidents Club members are still actively cruising. My guess would be in the range of 20 to 30. We look forward to being considered for an invitation into this select group during the next year or two. Scott & Karen HAL should have included you already!
blue whale Posted July 10, 2016 #43 Share Posted July 10, 2016 Thank you bill and Mary Ann, for providing the info about 1400 days. If you reach 1400 days on a cruise, is it likely that you would be invited to join during that cruise, or must you wait until the next cruise? I know that the additional perks do not pop in until the next cruise if you are not on a grand. Hope all is well. We no longer do grand cruises. We cannot be away from our doctors that long! Those are excellently nice items to get, but the four-star benefits contented me. An internet discount would be nice, but as the ships seem to be moving to untimed packages, I wonder if they could update that one. Possibly I could sell the other 5 star benefits on eBay as I would not expect to use them. The 1,400 days figure came up at trivia when I was on the Oosterdam in March. We got it. I can see the rest is of no interest to many, but we would do them anyways, so the savings is good.
