Rare karatemom2 Posted September 14, 2012 #26 Share Posted September 14, 2012 [ I did have an incident where one wheelchair ran over my heel while leaving the Queen's Lounge when the show ended and everyone was crowding out to leave. I don't even know where he came from, except he came from behind and he was just riding roughshod over ALL people crowding out of the lounge, with no regard for anyone elses safety. Being in a wheelchair doesn't give him the right to run others down >:( Happened to me too. A woman on a scooter backed up without looking and ran over my bare toes. I didn't say a word but I sure felt like it.I guess it depends on the particular cruise and the particular passengers as far as bedtime on HAL goes Happened to me too! I was slammed by a wheelchair so hard in the shin that I ended up with a huge bruise and my daughter and I narrowly escaped being run over by a scooter once. But both of those instances were on a Princess cruise. I actually found our fellow passengers on HAL a bit more spry on our Alaska cruise with fewer wheelchairs and scooters than I have seen on some of our Princess cruises. They were a very polite and thoughtful group as well. Just not much of an after hours crowd though. Clearly a lot of early to bed early to rise folks! Rare kazu Posted September 14, 2012 #27 Share Posted September 14, 2012 This is an interesting thread with a lot of thoughtful responses. Our case is that we cruise with another couple and the ladies tend to crash after the second show. The other gentleman and myself like to hang out later, and do all the venues still open, including the piano bar, casino and if truth be told we have closed a couple of bars in our time. Last stop is always to the lido deck stern area for a nightcap and a cigar. Most of the problems of the world have been solved out there, usually with the help of a couple of other night owls. We have fixed the Euro, brought peace to the Middle East, have a plan for Social Security and know what's wrong with today's youth. This is done on the first night, more important issues are addressed later in the cruise. "Ralph" "Ralph" - always good to see your posts and always makes me smile. hope the Nieuw Amsterdam cruise this time is smoother than our last one. I wish you no NORO and smooth seas:D:D Best to you all - and I agree - the problems of the world were indeed solved - but no one listened to us:eek:
Rare kazu Posted September 14, 2012 #28 Share Posted September 14, 2012 It depends on nationality: Canadians: 8:30pm Kiwis: 9:00pm USA: 10:00pm Europeans: 11:00pm Aussies: Midnight ... I'm sure this is factual;):D:p and yes, I know you love me. As a Canadian it's pretty hard to go to bed at 8:30 when we are at late seating at dinner:p;):)
cruisin crazy in Michigan Posted September 14, 2012 #29 Share Posted September 14, 2012 I think it depends on the length of the HAL cruise for late owls. We were on the Eurodam for a 7 night cruise and the casino was full every night until almost 1am . We tried to get as much in as possible and the 7 day cruise. It was different on the Ryndam and Maasdam since they were 11 day crusies. One night we closed the casino by midnight. We never went to the bars at night so I wouldn't know how busy they were during the cruises. The second seating shows were not busy at all. I usually walked in just a few minutes before the show and got front row seats.
suesie Posted September 14, 2012 #30 Share Posted September 14, 2012 I really hope not . We have sailed a couple of times with HAL [ in Europe] but our children were teens so didn't notice. We've persuaded friends to come with us to the Caribbean for 2 weeks later this year. They love P and O - particularly the sails-aways they do - but now i'm worried they'll be deeply unimpressed by a ship that is quiet by 10pm- ish. Help:eek:

Shebba Posted September 15, 2012 #32 Share Posted September 15, 2012 We may not be out and about on the ship, but we are rarely in bed by 10pm either. If we're not "out", we're normally reading, watching movies, playing with computers games, editing photos, etc. until the wee hours. Busy, busy!! Cruising-along Posted September 16, 2012 #45 Share Posted September 16, 2012 We prefer port intensive cruises and we're always on the go all day long. So we do tend to get up early and in bed by 11 or so....but we're active all day. I think that makes a big difference.

scopewest Posted September 16, 2012 #47 Share Posted September 16, 2012 We are not night owls. 10 is good for us. Same as at home. We like to be up early -- DH is in the gym at 6 AM nearly every morning. 10 p.m. bedtime (or at least back to the cabin time) for us as well because DH is in the gym at 4 AM every morning at home and thinks the ship's gym opens too late :)
KirkNC Posted September 16, 2012 #48 Share Posted September 16, 2012 For us it depends on the itinerary. Some of the European cruises wear me out and I can be in bed by 9:00 :o.

Cruising Boomer Posted September 16, 2012 #50 Share Posted September 16, 2012 All of these posts prove the old saying - "to each his own." There is no right or wrong way to cruise. Some nights we are up late doing things around the ship - some nights we are up late in the cabin - some nights we go to bed early. Because of our hectic lives at home - always on a schedule - cruising is our antidote to "life." Sometimes going back to the cabin and just reading a book is all we want to do. We like the smaller ships with HAL although we have friends who like big ships. Our favorite - the Prinsendam - was way too small for our friends. They love Princess - we found the Princess cabins too small - so it depends on what you want. However, I do like keeping the rumor going that HAL is for old folks. One cruise on Carnival cured us of that line. :D Bottom line - There's a cruise line for everyone. One size does not fit all. Doug
