Why did the Dream get shortchanged?

Ok, Ok, I admit I was wrong here. Guess you could say I was having a bad moment for myself after reading on Heald's FB page about all the upgrades that the Conquest was receiving. I am now over my "lollipop" moment. Now, I promise to be a good girl and not do stuff like that anymore.:o

 

I Love the Dream and next year have two more cruises upcoming on her, one booked and the other about to be booked next month. It is nice living not so far away from a few cruise ports. What a way to get away from it all.

 

Nuff said here, thanks to you all for your input. Have a Great Next Cruise on whatever floats your boat.;)

 

Yes, those cove balconies are the way to go!

Both of these posts reflect the differences in reasons why people cruise. Both posters choose ports over ship in their hierarchy of why to choose a particular sailing. Others, like myself, prefer to sail on the newest ship with many bells & whistles and the ports are secondary.

 

We have been to most of these ports quite a lot so at this point of our cruising life the ship is what we cruise for.

No reason to miss it on the Dream.....the brunch is in one dining room , while breakfast and lunch are served in the other. Only on the Spirit class ships that may get the Brunch will there be no Breakfast/Lunch served because there is only 1 dining room.

 

Are you sure about this? I was told otherwise...

Brunch will be served on sea days, 9:30am-2:00pm in the Forward Dining Room. On the Spirit-Class ships where there is only one Dining Room, regular breakfast and lunch menus will not be offered.

This is what has been said by JH, but this is not what is actually happening on the ships. We will see after this week about the Dream.

Yes, for us too, the ship is what we cruise for. On our next cruise, we'll still get off and walk around a little in St. Thomas (I need a new watch!), and we plan on taking a cab to Marigot because we've never been. Not into booking all day excursions so much anymore. We're usually back on the boat in time for lunch, and relax around the almost empty Lido with a cocktail. :)

I would have liked to have the Pub, the Blue Iguana grill, Guy's burgers and the Italian restaurant added. Instead, to me, all that was done was change the name of two bars on the Lido deck to keep them open longer hours.

The drydock originally was to replace worn out carpeting etc. and fix the general wear and tear on the ship. Even though the ship is relatively young, it had a lot of passengers wearing things out.

 

I'm not crazy about the new comedy brunch, although I do like to go to brunches. I guess it's the comedy part that seems too hokey for me. I have also read that the DJ Irie stuff is mostly rap and that would not be my choice of music, but to each his own.

 

 

We are looking forward to going on Dream in Nov. I'm interested in seeing how the new things play out.

 

 

 

They must have been those low class rowdy passengers from the other cruise lines trying to give Carnival a bad rep. :D

It's newer, but not that new. Things like carpet wear out, need replacing. Maybe since it is a newer ship, it was more cost effective to do minimal 2.0 updating. Even though it's just a face lift, the work done on the Lido area was pretty major (pools, etc.) It will be interesting to hear reports from people who are sailing this week. Also, dry dock isn't just for cosmetic reasons. I'm sure they give the engines a tune up.

 

My first cruise was on RC Mariner of the Seas in 2006. It was built in 2003 and had it's first dry dock a few weeks before we sailed. So it does happen.

Comedy brunch gives us late night casino people somewhere to get a real breakfast while we help contribute to lowering the bottom line of the cost?

 

But do admit I wanted to order some of those wings! But appears its all about boosting the profit which making the bars more attractive generally do.

 

Hey I get my shareholders credit and the stocks going up so whatever! Not to mention my casino discount so I buy the gas in the end....your welcome.

I am like you. My Wife and I have been to most of the ports many times and really enjoy the most out of the ship. I am glad they have not put in the Guys burger yet but that is because I am a smoker so once they do it will be one less place on the ship I will have to enjoy. I don't care much for junk food...not that I am saying there is anything wrong with it..so the Guy burger will not be a big thing to me.

I believe the Dream is set for drydock in 2014 fo the full upgrade

 

I hope you still enjoy the Dream she is a beautiful and fun ship

Although they got the Red Frog Rum Bar, they didn't get the pub that is on Magic and Breeze. The same with the Blue Iguana, a bar but not the area that has food.

 

No Cucina del Capitano either. I'd have loved that, but that's something else that didn't bring in a lot of money for Carnival, so not put on the ship now.

 

Even though the ship was only 3 years old or so, the carpeting in some areas was showing wear and as mentioned, the decking was really bad. I believe most ships go into drydock every 3 or 4 years.

Upkeep for wear and tear and fixing the pool area were needed. As you know, all ships can't be the same with their offerings of eateries.

I guess what I'm saying is in response to being shortchanged. We each have our faves, but it ain't gonna happen unless it brings revenue.

Also, the pasta bar on the Dream is lunch only and the Cucina del Capitano is 12.00 pp for dinner.

I am guessing, as we haven't been on a ship that has Le Cucina, but I think that the restaurant has a regular dinner menu. On Dream the pasta bar is only open for lunch and has limited offerings.

I just wanted to comment on people coming from Lido to eat at the pasta bar. I know this is a touchy subject, but it seems to me to be unfair to those of us who want to get pasta for lunch. To have lunch at the Pasta bar, one needs a table as once the order is placed, a placard with a number is put on a table for the server to deliver the food.

 

When the place is pretty well filled with people from Lido instead of the pasta people, those desiring pasta can't get it. We don't go at noon or even 1PM, but most times the pasta bar is very crowded and people are looking for places to eat and the seats are filled with those with buffet food.

 

I am wondering if these people realize what is happening and that others can't get what they want for lunch because there is no place to sit? It's even worse when people eat their lunch from Lido, save the table, then go downstairs and bring back dessert. End of my rant and I know there are many who will disagree with me, and that's ok, I am just trying to point out something that perhaps people aren't thinking of---- until they want pasta.
