visiting sister hotel on last day of hotel reservation?

I'm staying at the Doubletree Hilton in San Juan for one night before our cruise. Our flight does not arrive until 7:10 PM, and then we have the whole next day until our cruise departs at 8:30 PM. Checkout at the Hilton is noon.

They have a program in which we have full hotel and beach access to their sister property, La Concha. Does anyone know if we'd still be allowed to use this program on the day we check out? We're spending some time at the end of our cruise and will sight see a little then; in the beginning we're mostly just looking to chill.

Thanks for any info! (cross posted in San Juan forum).

You do realize that even if the ship is leaving at 8:30 p.m., you can get onboard much earlier in the day like at 11:30 a.m. and start enjoying the ship and its amenities.

I agree this others suggesting you get on the ship earlier, but if for some reason that is not possible, I would call the hotel and ask to talk to guest services. That would be the quickest way to get an answer to your question from the hotel.

Great points everyone. first-- we were originally told we couldn't board until 2 PM at the earliest, but I'm sure (like checking into hotels) there is probably some leeway around this.

Also, we chose our particular cruise because it's port intensive and we really don't like hanging about the ship. We don't drink or gamble or...(fill in the blank), we tend to think of it more as a place to sleep, to get meals, and get us to the next port. Yes, I do realize it's not THAT much different to hang around a resort vs. hanging around a ship...but we've never stayed in a resort (we're not usually beach people, this cruise to the Caribbean is our first "beach" vacation) so we thought we'd like to try it. We've cruised once before, to the Mediterranean, and I remember we became dreadfully bored on the At Sea days. It's not like we could find a chair anywhere close to the pool.

Anyway. Didn't get an email back from the hotel, so we'll try calling guest services next since CC doesn't seem to have the answer. Thanks for the replies!

Allegratiger, you can definitely check in earlier than 2 p.m. The cruise line just tells you that. It sounds like you could go over there after you leave the Doubletree.

Most hotels, depending on availability, will allow a late checkout, say around 2 pm. They cannot know availability until that day, so you have to request it at the desk upon checkin. That would give you the whole morning to relax at the resort, go to the beach, etc... and still have a place to clean up prior to boarding the ship.

If it were me, I'd want to spend a little time at the resort as well. I know we'll be on the ship for a week (give or take) but we won't be at that resort for long. We've been on enough cruises that many ships just seem pretty much the same and I'm not disappointed to lose a couple hours there or miss one buffet lunch. If we're in an interesting place, we would rather check onto the ship a little later and enjoy the city we're seeing for a brief time.

I heard back from the hotel, and they do not allow people to use the Beach Club program on their last day. (which I think is a little misleading, considering their website states 'throughout your stay').

I'll inquire about the late checkout--thanks for suggesting that. Looks like we're on to plan B!
