Pam in CA Posted December 16, 2012 #7 Share Posted December 16, 2012 FYI, there is no babysitting and they have to be 100% potty trained to go into the pools or into the kids area. Just be aware that you might not have much of a vacation.
rkmw Posted December 16, 2012 #8 Share Posted December 16, 2012 the OP is from Australia so they would have to ask Princess or their TA to make sure if the baby can travel in the p&o Australia book it states that no child under 12 months can travel and princess australia may have the same rule
Molly Doble Posted December 16, 2012 Author #9 Share Posted December 16, 2012 HI I was hoping it was 6 months old for travel on Aust/NZ cruises. We had planned a trip to the US for the family but it is too big a trip for a baby. A cruise would have been great and as we will be first time grandparents I don't think we would mind helping out. Wonder why they have different ages for different areas you cruise? Guess we will have to wait that little bit longer for a family cruise. Thanks everyone Tania
caribill Posted December 16, 2012 #10 Share Posted December 16, 2012 Wonder why they have different ages for different areas you cruise? Guess we will have to wait that little bit longer for a family cruise. I suspect it is for medical reasons. The onboard doctors, although very qualified, are not pediatric specialists and they want the cruises with the very young to be within a reasonable distance if emergency medical help is needed. Aus Traveller Posted December 16, 2012 #11 Share Posted December 16, 2012 We are also from Australia and wanted to book our whole family including a 7 month-old baby on a cruise. We were told emphatically that the minimum age is 12 months and if we fronted up with a child younger than that, we would be denied boarding. I argued that if we booked through the USA, babies were allowed if they were over 6 months old. This made no difference to the answer. Minimum age is 12 months. Then I was given the long story about medical facilities on board etc. etc. I commented that I couldn't see that American babies 6-12 months old would require less medical support than Australian babies, but the Customer Service Operator just repeated the rule. Big disappointment because it meant that one of our sons, his wife and two children couldn't go. :(

Due to limited neo-natal facilities onboard and at the destinations we visit, the following minimum ages apply: ItineraryMinimum age to travelAlaska, Canada & New England, Caribbean, Mexican Riviera, Europe (excluding transatlantic voyages) and Panama Canal 6 months All other itineraries12 monthsIn addition, infants aged between six (6) months and three (3) years must remain with their parent/legal guardian at all times. Our family always cruises together and we are very lucky that our daughter in law loves it as much as we do. Think our next holiday will a flying destination :) Thanks Tania

I thought babies could cruise from 6 months? Hope someone can help Tania :) Many responses mentioned the Princess Passage Contract. However, if you are cruising on one of the Princess ships, Sun, Sea or Dawn that are operated by P & O Australia, check out the contract details at this website. http://www.pocruises.com.au/alreadybooked/pages/bookingpassagetermsconditions.aspx I think it is 12 months old and there are other conditions also. notentirelynormal Posted December 16, 2012 #16 Share Posted December 16, 2012 We cruised with our 6 month old in Australia 5 years ago. I think it was shortly afterwards that the policy was changed to 12 months. It was a very long flight for a baby and my DD got very little sleep on the plane as she was worried she wouldn't hear her cry over the engine noise. My post was from section 5 of the cruise contract. Is that where you found your above information? I did a word search of the cruise contract and cound not find the word "Teenager". Could you be directed to a different cruise contract since you are not in the USA?
