angelndscz Posted January 2, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 2, 2013 Hi ya'll, Just wondering what the 2013 swimwear trends will be? I am looking online at some swimsuits. This one caught my eye for at first being a OMG that is ugly, then looking at it I am like, it is pretty inventive. On a cruise when walking around non-pool areas, you have a built in cover-up? Do you think this style is too old for a 38 year old mom? I am a size 6, but need the underwire support. I am very extremely pale so tanning isn't usually my thing although I like sitting in a lounge chair and reading a book. http://www.everythingbutwater.com/swimwear/browse/products/magicsuit/omg/52060+464516+97.html
klauer Posted January 2, 2013 #2 Share Posted January 2, 2013 I think it's kind of mature-looking for someone your age and size. There are cute tankinis on sites like Victoria's Secret. For a cover-up I think you'll want something separate from your swimsuit. JMHO
cb at sea Posted January 2, 2013 #3 Share Posted January 2, 2013 Whether it's too old looking for you, is up to you and your comfort level! If you have that shape of body, then you could probably go a bit more risque!

For a cover-up I think you'll want something separate from your swimsuit. JMHO Thanks for the honest opinion. I don't want something too mature looking. One of my close girlfriends works at VS and wears their swimsuits. I am unable to wear theirs as I can not wear anything with any additional padding and I don't like how most of them show the entire inner side of both breasts. LOL. I like a more modest full cut. Four kids, a size 34DD but not the sexy kind IMO. The kind that needs extra support is all. Oh, here is a swimsuit tip. Don't wear a VS swimsuit with the huge metal rings on the bottom and try to get through port security. Since we drove to the port (about 1.5 hours) we wore our swimwear there ready to go straight to the pool. My friend that works at VS forgot about the metal on the swimsuit and she/security couldn't figure it out. Once they did, she had to be escorted by a lady to check to ensure that was the issue. Ha Ha! Memories.

klauer Posted January 3, 2013 #6 Share Posted January 3, 2013 Try titlenine or athleta dot com -- they have sporty/youthful suits, I think.
Chigirlcruzin Posted January 3, 2013 #7 Share Posted January 3, 2013 I'll be 36 (gulp!) on Friday, and I'm a size 2. I do think that suit is a bit mature looking for someone of your age and size. I buy all my suits at Victoria's Secret, so I can't off you much assistance on where to look. However, as another poster noted, it really doesn't matter what we say. What matters is you feeling comfortable! Good luck with your search :)
Chigirlcruzin Posted January 3, 2013 #8 Share Posted January 3, 2013 As far as walking around the ship (and ports), I have several casual sundresses that I slip on over my bathing suit. I don't have anything built in.
Hoyaheel Posted January 3, 2013 #9 Share Posted January 3, 2013 I usually buy my suits from Lands End - they have good sales (I get coupons via email all the time); they offer some tops in bra sizing (which, as a DDD, I love!) and if it doesn't fit, I can return it to my local Sears store. You can also buy 2 pieces as separates (again, nice when you're busty:p)
6rugrats Posted January 3, 2013 #10 Share Posted January 3, 2013 Try titlenine or athleta dot com -- they have sporty/youthful suits, I think. They do, but be warned most of their suits are cut kind of small. They have a great return policy though and lots of sales this time of year. xenagurl Posted January 3, 2013 #11 Share Posted January 3, 2013 Thanks for the VS swimsuit tip! I've actually had a couple of those swim bottoms on my radar. We're about the same age and size. And while I can't speak for your personality and I don't know your shape (hourglass, banana, apple etc) I personally wouldn't wear that swimsuit. It looks matronly and hot, literally. We might not be teenagers but as long as were relatively small and in good shape there's no need to break out the grandma suits just yet. LOL Why not go for halter tops, the right kind is sexy but sweet and has good support. I usually wear skirted bikinis as they suit my shape, but plan on adding more regular swim bottoms. Venus swimwear has nice halter tops that might be just what you're looking for. :) HTH and Happy Cruising!
Ehpride Posted January 4, 2013 #12 Share Posted January 4, 2013 I would look at Lands End because they have some that are made in bra sizes. Kohl's has a brand that's made in bra sizes as well. I don't know if I'd feel comfortable using it as a cover up. I'd probably still put on something more substansial.

Ha Ha! Memories. I'm early 30's, size 4ish, and also prefer more modest but not "old" looking swimwear. I looked in about 10 stores for new swimsuits last year and ended up finding just what I wanted at Lands End. I was able to try some on for size at my local Sears (I found they were pretty true to clothing sizes) then order cheaper online.

We have the same taste. :) I'm in my 40s and have been wearing skirted bikinis since my early 30s because I feel less exposed (I'm large in the bottom). I love halter tops too...mine are mostly Jansen and Coco Reef because they fit size D. I've tried wearing tanks on the top but they make me look chunky and unshapely because they are too straight down (lack waist definition), and they tend to be less supportive in the bust. That is probably not true if you are a size 6 but I'm L. Some of the trends I am seeing are one shoulder on-pieces, lace, and ruffles. Kenneth Cole has some really cute and young skirted bikinis. blonde1981 Posted January 4, 2013 #16 Share Posted January 4, 2013 I think it is an ok swim suit. I think it is a little older looking though. I have the same underwire requirement. Have you checked into online stores that specialize in larger bra sizes? I bought mine from Bravissimo last year. HerRoom, Brastop, and BiggerBras (all are .com) also have good selections. Height and shape can play a factor. To answer your question regarding trends, I thought Lands End came up with a good one...a four piece suit...top, bottom, skirt, and halter/tanking cover up. I hope my copy and paste works. If it does not, go to website and check out swim mates. http://www.landsend.com/pp/StylePage-425097_AG.html?amp;CM_MERCH=REC-_-FPPP-_-GGT-_-1-_-425097-_-425099 coka
whataboutport Posted January 6, 2013 #18 Share Posted January 6, 2013 As far as trends, I see a lot of swimwear designers going retro and offering one pieces with halter necklines and lower cut across the leg. I like modcloth.com. It's a younger site, but they have mostly retro styles, so more modest but focusing on hourglass, fit and flare styles, think 50s pinup, etc. This is their best selling style, It's the "bathing beauty" one. it comes in a bunch of colors, regular size and plus size, and price is good. I got one in a similar style, it's very flattering. I am mid 30's, size 2 or 4, but an apple figure (tummy) and this looks good. No underwire, but the halter gives a bit of support. I'm a DD so this works for me. http://www.modcloth.com/shop/onepiece-swimwear
Rare brazilgirl Posted January 6, 2013 #19 Share Posted January 6, 2013 I love J. Crew's bikinis ....I am 43 and full on top (34D) , I love the halter stlyle , very flattering . The bandeau style is great too. I have an hourglass shape , so am careful when choosing the bottoms . J. Crew tends to be geared to more boyish hips. I live their paisley prints and their maillots are very attractive as well.
SexyK Posted January 7, 2013 #20 Share Posted January 7, 2013 My local Sam's club has some nice ones out, n their not that expensive either. They have Jantzen brand. I may get 1 more. I have enough swimwear n don't even use it.
vladdyfan Posted January 8, 2013 #21 Share Posted January 8, 2013 I think if you are only 36 and small then yes, this is too mature looking mb...have you tried Venus or looked at their stuff online? They have bra style tops that offer more support but are still cute. I am NOT large breasted lol but always buy suits there bc this style adds more support and comes with removable pads..their two pieces you can buy different sizes for tops and bottoms...IDK if you like two pieces but they have cute one pieces too...also they offer different styles of bikini bottoms with more or less coverage depending on your preference
vladdyfan Posted January 8, 2013 #22 Share Posted January 8, 2013 This is the suit I currently have from Venus..they do have bikini bottoms available with more coverage if that was one's preference..this is called the "enhancer top" and is available in a "A" to a "DD"..It's the only bikini top I feel comfortable wearing as it offers "lift and support" even though I am NOT large breasted..I need the "support"..LOL
vladdyfan Posted January 8, 2013 #23 Share Posted January 8, 2013 This is a suit with the full cut bottoms....more coverage but still youthful and stylish
vladdyfan Posted January 8, 2013 #24 Share Posted January 8, 2013 This suit is also from Venus...it's a 'Tankini" that offers coverage of the tummy area and bust support while still, I think, looks youthful and stylish
WAHMto5 Posted January 12, 2013 #25 Share Posted January 12, 2013 I am also a HUGE fan of Coco Reef suits. They are bra sized to fit with or without underwires, some with free floating bras within.
