Looks like an IC is coming for the Coral

I don't think the official deck plans have been revised yet on the Princess site.

But ... I looked at an OV on a Fall sailing (and likely anytime after the drydock revisions), and the booking area does show the revisions.

There are 8 OV's on the port side shown as mid-aft Fiesta deck and 5 OV's, also port side Fiesta, classed as mid-ship. Also, the IC is on the starboard side opposite the new mid-aft cabins. The Casino is giving up some real estate for these changes. Facets remains unchanged in the near-to-the-casino area.

Hope that satisfies curisities.

I pasted the two views together. Not the best resolution from the screen shots but it will give you and idea. Traffic flow looks pretty good. Still wish it wasn't right next to the Casino but at least the Coral has an IC now :)

I'm trying to find where High Heel Girl found this announcement. It isn't on their website and I've Googled my fingers off and I can't find it. I'm not doubting it, just want to go there to find any other information on the ship. :D

I guess now that I bought a coffee card for my August cruise, I know where I'll be getting my nice coffee drinks. :p

Go back to post #25 from carbil, he has the link posted for the Princess E-Newsletter;)

Thanks for posting the image ... it'll give everyone here a better visual than my description.

I'm glad the RickEk's info was not totally correct. IMHO it would have been a mess to have cabins on both sides of the Fiesta deck in this area. Too bad they didn't put in any Window Suites. They would have been nice to have on the Coral (and Island).

Hopefully Princess is able to maintain the passenger flow with these changes. The Coral and Island both have excellent passenger flow. The IC addition is great, it is something that is needed.

Agree with you. Sailed the Coral 3 times and really missed the IC. Did not realize how much we liked it until it wasn't there!!

That part makes no difference to us. Coral and Island are my favorite ships, but we have never used IC on any of the other ships. Just more ways to increase revenue.

I would have to say that the majority of the food items at the IC are free.

How so? Except for a couple of ships with gelato, everything is free. Yes, it probably encourages people to buy brewed or specialty coffee but you don't need the IC for that. You can get specialty coffee in any restaurant or dining room.

I wonder about this IC. If it's on the Fiesta deck, not in the atrium, will it still have that "sidewalk cafe" feel to it? Does this mean that La Patisserie will still serve its current function as bar and coffee counter? I also also wonder what the appeal is of a cabin there in the middle of things. I guess that's good for those who want to be in the middle of things. In any case, that second "spare" bar for the casino did seem a poor use of space.

Huh? It's not a venue like Sabatini's or Bayou? That's what it sounded like. (Rachel informs me we have never sailed on a ship with IC - I just figured it was another non "main dining or buffet" place.)

Wait, you mentioned that you've not used them on other ships? Hey, they are great place to get some different food that is included in the price of cruising. Sorry if I'm a bit rough, but honestly you come across as a negative Nancy by making a comment about a means to increase revenue.

If it's not main dining, not buffet, and not poolside, then it is extra cost venue; at least that is the pattern I've seen on all ships in the past. As I said, I had not seen this on any past cruises, and you have to admit, the name sounds "upcharge".

You will also notice lots of comments on this and other threads about the cruise lines increasing revenue by opening more and more upcharge restaurants, varying anywhere from $5 to $40. There were 4 of these on our last cruise, plus two venues that were limited to those in one class of cabin.

Sorry if you were offended, but nowhere in this thread was there even a hint at a lack of a charge, now was there?

You should not make comments about venues you have not tried and of which you have no personal knowledge. There was a nominal charge for some items when the IC first opened. Most of those items, and the nominal charge, are now gone except for a charge of $1.50 for three scoops of gelato on three ships that offer gelato at the IC. All other food is complementary and has been since at least 2009. You can buy the extra cost specialty coffee drinks at the IC but that is only one location on board and ships without an IC also offer the specialty coffee drinks.

So you criticize Princess because the name sounds like an upcharge location? Why not tip your hat to them for offering more dining/snacking options. Cruising is meant for pleasure- not pain.

So, with what you have read, do you think adding the IC is a great idea?

IMO the $1.50 charge for the 3 scoops of gelato is a steal for something so declicious!! My husband and I usually share which comes out to 75 cents each. Checked Celebrity and they charge something like $3.00 for 2 scoops and $5.00 for 3 scoops of their gelato.....Royal Caribbean charges almost $3.00 for a small (very small) Ben and Jerry's ice cream.

That is probably because people know there is no charge from having done their research. :) I realize that the industry is offering more and more "upcharge" venues, but this does not mean that all venues outside the MDR and buffet charge a fee. Try it. You'll like it.

I don't see any criticizing. Merely a comment. Lighten up. (I didn't say they shouldn't do it - I implied I probably wouldn't use it.)

Do I think adding it is a great idea? Don't know. Never been on a ship with it. That will have to wait until I see it. My first chance will be on the Royal Princess. (Look at my list below - does it look like I criticize Princess? No, they are still my favorite; we have 2 more booked already.) I'm a repeat Princess cruiser with 10 cruises by the end of this year, have highly recommended the line, and directly influenced several people to cruise Princess. I have earned a right to comment on the good and the bad.

What "research"? The Princess site doesn't say that, nowhere on Cruise Critic have I seen that. Definitely on this thread y'all never said it.
