HamOp Posted February 3, 2013 #1 Share Posted February 3, 2013 Just noticed the March 22 sailing of the Noordam from Fort Lauderdale to Rome inside cabin for 16 nights is $599.00 That's $37.50 per person per night. On the other end of the spectrum the deluxe verandah suite is still a bargain at $$2,799. That's $174.94 P/P per night. Even factoring in the air fare, what a deal. sail7seas Posted February 3, 2013 #2 Share Posted February 3, 2013 Sad to see them selling cabins at such low prices. Noordam is such a wonderfully, beautiful ship. What kind of cruise can they provide at those prices?
Tina G Posted February 3, 2013 #3 Share Posted February 3, 2013 This is a repositioning cruise leaving from Ft, Lauderdale stopping in the Azores; 2 days in Lisbon, Portugal; Cadiz, Spain; Malaga; Cartegena; ending in Civitavecchia (Rome). Guess they are banking that we are big drinkers and gamblers! The itinerary was changed about the time they dropped the price, so it no longer ends in Barcelona. It was likely changed to accommodate a long-planned dry-dock. Unfortunately, one-way return air turns out to be expensive. FYI, cruisers will probably miss "March Madness". Come join us. Love to hav ya. Douglas for...
Krazy Kruizers Posted February 3, 2013 #4 Share Posted February 3, 2013 Glad you got such a bargain. Sadly many of the repositioning cruises are not and have not been sailing out. That also goes for the European cruises. So if you can get a deal on air fare -- then you have it made. Enjoy your cruise.
BellBoys Posted February 3, 2013 #5 Share Posted February 3, 2013 We looked at this itinerary and were pleasantly surprised to see a one way business class fare from Rome to Chicago at $2000 per person which is a bargain for a non-stop flight. cabinluvn Posted February 3, 2013 #7 Share Posted February 3, 2013 We jumped on this cruise as soon as the fares went down. Due to some odd circumstances we had a voucher from Alitalia that had ti be used by August 1, so it worked out perfectly! We also had our FBC to use. Really looking forward to those sea days. What kind of cruise can they provide at those prices? My cheap repositioning cruises have been just like any other Holland America cruise; good food, good entertainment, good ports, good ship. 496and706 Posted February 3, 2013 #11 Share Posted February 3, 2013 When dh and I booked this cruise the price for an inside cabin was lower than $599. We got one way air fare back to Toronto for $750 CND each.

Do the above for $599, hang out for a while in Rome, and then catch the Prinsendam from Rome back to FLL. Return fare for inside cabin is $2,599 (best air I could find was $2,700 Rome to JFK) for a total cost of $3,198. It also gets you 34 days on a HAL ship for $94.05 per person per day. Just to be clear, I haven't booked it, but thanks to those who wished me a nice trip.
Padraic Posted February 3, 2013 #13 Share Posted February 3, 2013 So if you can get a deal on air fare -- then you have it made. We had booked the original 23 day cruise and when that changed we changed it to the Eurodam on April 6. We thought that was great and then one of our daughters gave us an 11 day Med cruise on Azamara starting five days after the Eurodam ends. Kids are great! Not to rub it in but another daughter is a flight attendant so can fly home dirt cheap (and probably First Class). We are lucky as h*ll.

Stelladoro Posted February 5, 2013 #18 Share Posted February 5, 2013 We did the Noordam TA cruise last year, in lieu of flying to Europe. Our final destination was Great Britain, so this required a short flight from Rome to London. Our TA found us a great sale on a return oneway flight with Sunwing for only $599 for both of us! Cost included seats with extra legroom. To date, this was our best deal! This was our first HAL cruise and so happy we chose the Noordam - such a beautiful ship, with great service! George C Posted February 6, 2013 #20 Share Posted February 6, 2013 Seems like all the repositioning cruises are really a bargain, hope to do this in next few years. Rccl is offering "all you can drink" on there repositioning cruises at no extra charge.
SilvertoGold Posted February 6, 2013 #21 Share Posted February 6, 2013 My cheap repositioning cruises have been just like any other Holland America cruise; good food, good entertainment, good ports, good ship. It is about time someone dispelled the idea that any cruise on Flash pricing or just sell-off pricing results in an inferior cruise. There seems to be the implication/misunderstanding that if a cruise goes to Flash or sell-off pricing, there are a huge number of cabins at this pricing. This is nonsense. HAL discounts to keep the sales on track and to fill the ship after final payment. Lisa has noted that HAL relies on shipboard spending to make profit, so filling the ship with warm bodies is obviously important. Both of our TAs were Flash sales and the pricing was excellent. There was NO difference in the cruise, food, entertainment, or anything else we notice, and we have sailed HAL enough to know. Further, this serious discounting is not new. TAs have been give-aways for several years. You also see a lot of Caribbean cruises at sell-off prices and this year some Canada-New England are aready selling low.
