39august Posted February 3, 2013 #1 Share Posted February 3, 2013 Title pretty much says it for our Indy cruise Jan. 27-Feb. 2! We were dropped off at the pier at 10:50 and were in the Cafe Promenade by 11:15. Debarkation was organized and easy. Our group was called just 2 minutes later than the posted time, and we walked directly off.. no standing in lines. Waited maybe 2 minutes at immigration. Could have easily made a 10:25 flight..that's the one I didn't book because it was so early! Loved that the entire inside of the ship was non-smoking except for the casino. So nice to be able to enjoy all the various lounge venues!

Rare Familygoboston Posted February 3, 2013 #3 Share Posted February 3, 2013 Is that new? Wow, maybe experimenting with something? Even the pool decks? What about ones own balcony?

Ocean Boy Posted February 3, 2013 #6 Share Posted February 3, 2013 Great to hear this, was not aware. Now I am really looking forward to the pub on the Promenade!:):)
39august Posted February 3, 2013 Author #7 Share Posted February 3, 2013 Ian was great in the pub on our cruise. I had seen him several years ago on Mariner...back when Mariner still had at least a non-smoking area in the pub. I believe the reason Indy is non-smoking inside is that she has been in England for several years, and England has very strict non-smoking laws. I confirmed this with some Brits on board. LuckiStac13*Majesty* Posted February 3, 2013 #8 Share Posted February 3, 2013 Now I am really looking forward to the pub on the Promenade!:):) Me too! I didn't spend much time there on Navigator last year, but I'd like to this time. I wonder if there'll be any good entertainment there?
micmacmissy Posted February 3, 2013 #9 Share Posted February 3, 2013 I was on the same cruise, and the pub in the promenade was definitely non-smoking- we enjoyed that! But as for the rest of the ship...too smoky! The casino was SO smoky we didn't set foot in it. It was so bad that it was hard to even be in the adjacent photo gallery due to the smell. (I was going to purchase a $150 photo CD, and wound up leaving and not buying it, because the smoke smell gave me a headache.) The Schooner Bar was also really smoky, as was the whole port side of the pool deck and the promenade deck. Smokers were EVERYWHERE on these two decks- yuck! We had an aft balcony and didn't smell any smoke back there at all. I totally agree about embarking and debarking- so easy!!! We got to port at 10:45 and were in the Windjammer by 11:45. As for getting off, our time was 8am and we walked off at 8:02...never even made it to our meeting area, they were just waving everyone off- no lines. After we sailed on Indy three years ago one of the things that I wrote about on these boards was that the pool deck was like a smokers convention. And if I mistakenly walked down the wrong side of it the smell was overwhelming. And that was outside with a breeze blowing across the deck.
39august Posted February 3, 2013 Author #11 Share Posted February 3, 2013 I was in the Schooner bar twice and there was no smoking there. No ashtrays in evidence. There was also a sign at the disco entrance across from the Schooner bar that advised "This is a non-smoking venue." Yes, the casino was very smokey. Clarea Posted February 3, 2013 #12 Share Posted February 3, 2013 I'm surprised that Schooner was a smoking venue, because it certainly was not during our 11 days on Indy during December.
LuckiStac13*Majesty* Posted February 3, 2013 #13 Share Posted February 3, 2013 It's kind of comical...so many things with Royal are completely inconsistent. Maybe other lines as well, but I don't have much experience there.
uksimonusa Posted February 3, 2013 #14 Share Posted February 3, 2013 Wow, I had not heard that before! Indy didn't change back to the American smoking policy when she returned from the UK. On both formal nights the casino is also no smoking, and no smoking at the pool bar or sky bar either
Rare RCCL Fan Posted February 3, 2013 #15 Share Posted February 3, 2013 So the ship is mostly non-smoking. but sounds like, based on Missy's experience the smokers are all hanging out in one or two areas and those are smoke city. INTERESTING.....
39august Posted February 3, 2013 Author #16 Share Posted February 3, 2013 But as Bob and I have said, there was no smoking in the Schooner bar on our cruises. The only inside area which allowed smoking was the casino, and of course, the very secluded cigar bar. The ship is very smoke free as compared to other ships that I have cruised lately. For instance, the pub on Mariner is the smokers' lounge. It is impossible to enjoy the entertainment there as the smoke is literally thick. micmacmissy Posted February 3, 2013 #17 Share Posted February 3, 2013 I think a lot depends on your personal tolerance level. Admittedly, my tolerance for smoke is VERY low, so take that into consideration. The pool deck was fine except for when we were on the port side. Same with the shuffleboard deck. But there were definitely ashtrays in the Schooner Bar, and the smoke didn't stay in the casino- I could smell it on that entire floor. The interior promenade was fine, as was Bolero's, the pub, Vintages, etc. There seemed to be a lot of Europeans on board last week and a lot of smokers as well. People congregated around the ashtrays on the pool deck.
