Has this ever happened to you??????

What would you do? I'm going to call them back, what would you say?

I would say that I booked my cabin a year ago to best enable me to tend to the needs of my service dog. I would not be interested in any incentives to move. I would also say that I appreciate the other couples desire to stay in the same cabin, but there is nothing I can do.

I don't get the outrage for the request. If you don't like what they offer and won't accept any counter offers, that ends it.
Seriously? Roz has legitimate concerns as Princess HAS moved people without notification or approval... because they can. Even if you are linked to the people in the cabin next door and have your booking marked, "Do not upgrade." It's happened to me. I fortunately got my cabin back but they moved me from a mini-suite on Emerald deck next to my sister up one (1) category "upgrade" to the first cabin forward on Dolphin deck. You can't get too much further apart than that. Roz has a (legitimate) service dog with needs that must be met.

First, sorry, to Roz- I think those posts are pretty level headed. But I read a lot of what if's and Princess is trying to pull a fast one.

Sure, if Roz get's moved, that's an issue, but no where did I read that is happening- at least not yet.

And, like you mentioned, some "reservations" are not guaranteed. You're infinitely more familiar with these policies, but so far, Princess isn't forcing a move. Upgrade is different. That doesn't sound like that's what is going on here.

So sorry if I sounded offensive, but it sounded like more than a few posts were pretty whiney about something that hasn't happened- like maybe a threat from those who want the cabin. Is that fair to them? Really, it could be any of us and we are asking if we can have a cabin. Then some folks post that maybe they may do something since they didn't get the switch. Pretty rough and petty response IMO.

So, good luck to Roz and so far, I trust Princess to do the right thing.

I'll give an example from our 2005 cruise, even though this could have been a rare case of a jerk. One of my fellow roll callers had booked the cruise but asked to be waitlisted for the cabin she really wanted. She finally got it. First day of the cruise, she was approached by a woman who practically insisted that my friend switch cabins with her. She said no. From then on, any time this woman came into contact with the friend, she would try to make her miserable, including blocking her using her toddler's stroller.

Apparently this woman was part of an extended family (I seem to remember about 52 in this party), who ran roughshod over crew members and otherwise made the other passengers on board miserable. They let their kids run loose unsupervised (my daughter told me none of them seemed to particpate in the kids' program). In fact, one of the boys shoved my girl in the pool. A short time later, my daughter pointed out the boy, now in the hot tub, to my hubby, who went over to the boy and demanded he apologize to our daughter (who was 8 on that cruise). The boy said in Spanish that he couldn't speak English.

Some of these kids ran around the hallways in the early morning, knocking on doors. On one formal night, another one of my roll call friends was walking down the hall carrying a drink, when one of these kids ran into her, causing her to spill her drink, ruining her dress. Items, such as the giant chess pieces on the top deck, went missing. One of the youth security guys (apparently hired for this and some other holiday cruises, undoubtedly because of complaints on the same cruise the year before about the same family), told me at our meet and greet that he actually went up to one of the fathers and said he needed to control his kids, and this guy actually told him (apparently he knew some English) that he's "on vacation." The security guy replied, "you're never on vacation from being a parent." One guy who "accidentally tripped one of the kids" who was running around was threatened with getting kicked off the ship (he didn't and I'm guessing that lots of passengers were offering him free drinks for the rest of the cruise).

There were more stories too, about this family, but the "karma" one is that at our last port, one of the mothers was on the gangway to go off the ship, apparently juggling her ID to put in her purse, while holding her toddler, when the toddler fell over the rail into the water. The kid was rescued, but that was the talk at dinner at probably every table (and I heard it from someone who said they were already on land and happen to see it). It actually made the cruise junkies website about ship incidents.

And some passengers were wondering what was the background of this family -- they dropped a lot of money in the casino, etc.

And yes, passengers were complaining, including the ones at the "most traveled' luncheon and directly to the captain.

So sometimes, even if you have a valid reason to not go along with a request, you still might get attitude. I think (hope at least) that most passengers would be reasonable, but every once in a while...

Roz,

Hi my name is Stephanie and I am booked on the same cruise. I noticed over 2 weeks ago that it was sold out. I am on a guarantee and have not received a cabin assignment, nor any emails. I found out the change of hours in SF from the roll call. I had my TA call last week on they said I "should" get a cabin, it just may not be until I get to the ship. Although I have had to wait til I got to the ship to get a cabin one time that sailing had many rooms still available. My TA asked, so you are sure she will get a cabin, they admitted sometimes they are over booked. If I am going to get bumped I would prefer to make the arrangements now. So i guess my questions is do you think these people were just booking now, or had decided to add the other cruises to this booking?

If you look on the first page and read my post, you'll see that if they're overbooked, they'll start making moveover offers until they can get cabins for the guarantee passengers. If you paid your fare, you should get a cabin. Just like with a flight that's overbooked. People will be offered something to switch to another flight.

I am not sure how my post is unclear. I was responding to Roz because she is on my same cruise. I was surprised Princess was booking someone new onto the ship when people on my cruise and roll call are still awaiting cabin assignments. In reading many posts about this subject, and my experience on over 30 cruises, I know passengers booking guarantees almost always end up with a cabin. But I also know there are times when the guarantee passengers are asked to move over. I am doing this trip as an anniversary cruise, the actual date is March 29, but the cruise before is Mexico and we are not ready to do that itinerary again. Additionally my husband has health issues and we try to fit cruises around Dr. visits, PET scan, etc. So for this particular cruise I would like to know if I am actually cruising next week. If I end up getting bumped I can deal with it, I just am a little more concerned because I need this to be special, and seeing Roz post about the same cruise led me to ask her a question.

You are such a good sleuth! My TA called me back just one minute ago and said that's exactly what they wanted to do; they're planning a b2b2b - 3 weeks onboard the Sapphire in my cabin. They're going and they're taking the other cabin I was offered and then after I leave they'll move over to mine.

If Princess had offered me a full suite I would have happily moved.....or OBC, a more interesing insentive may have done it! A bottle of wine.....I don't think so!

So the requesters had a good reason. Be sure to look them up and let them know what a chintzy offer the Princess rep made.

The instant I typed the word, "Sequestered" came to mind.:p

There is a wonderful phrase in the English language: "No thank you." You don't owe anyone an explanation and you don't have to justify what you are doing. You booked it, you paid for it, it is yours.

The End:D

My concern now is that these folks, who want our cabin, are going to approach us while onboard.....this should be very interesting!!!!

We know that since he is a service dog that sweet, funny Horton is trainable. So perhaps a new trick might come in handy: Growl and bare the teeth when approached by people asking for the cabin you specifically picked and booked a year in advance ;)

I look forward to seeing you and Horton on board :)

I wonder if it was the other couple that offered the wine to begin with? What if you didn't even drink wine... ? lol

Drum roll please.......I don't!!!! However, my SIL, who is traveling with me does, which is why I got her on the line to see if it was worth it to her. She said, "NO!"

If they are who Roz said, they are nice people. I'm pretty sure they were on the Sapphire cruise a few years ago when I met Roz so it's possible they've met before. He posts here occasionally.

Very funny! Horton looks very menacing and he probably could lick someone to death!

I look forward to meeting you again, as well!

FWIW...we've now talked with two different couples on different ships who were both the most traveled couples on those particular cruises. They do a lot of B2B2B(...) cruises, and we asked them how they booked them to stay in the same inside cabin. We were told by one couple that they book after final payment, take a guarantee and then tell their Princess Vacation Specialist (or whatever that title is) that they want a specific cabin area and the same cabin throughout, and Princess moves people to accommodate them. The second couple doesn't wait that long, and so fewer people have to be relocated, but they basically do the same thing.

Like it or not, it happens. I don't think Princess could force a move if a booking was marked No Upgrade (they could try, of course, but people could push back), but perhaps they just sweeten the offer enough to accommodate those people with 1000+ days.

I had booked a Hawaiian Cruise over a year ahead of time. 3 months before the cruise I get a call asking if I was interested in giving up my room for a " I deal you won't turn down". Apparently a company charter wanted the whole floor or section we were booked in. It was a Balcony room, nothing special.

I responded by saying "talk to me"

I was offerred a choice of 5 other cruises, with an upgrade to the "best available"cabin, and a portion of my money back.

Being the astute traveler that I am, I asked how long I had to decide, because I knew better than making any changes without checking with my wife.

Her initial response was, the "best available room coudl be down in the bowels of the ship near the boiler.

I called Princess back, and after asking I was told, " a suite, of course"

From a 10 day cruise I "settled" for a 21 day Transatlantic from Puerto Rico to Athens, basically combining a transatlantic and Med cruise into one. They paid for my airfare to San Juan and back from Athens, gave me a good portion of what I had paid back, Gave us one of the top suites, and we ate at the Captain's Table for the entire cruise. Now I will say, that we had the opposite seating, so we at with the First Officer.

It was the days of the still paper tickets, I cherish it as it shows the itinerary and fare at just over $38,000.00 I still love ot show it off

Obviously, Our best cruise ever.

Love you guys!!!!! I knew you'd be the cheering squad I needed.

I must say the Princess Rep. wasn't very warm and engaging, she was curt and not willing to offer more than another cabin just like mine but closer to the noisey area. I have a pretty good "take" on people's attitudes and she wasn't motivating me to offer-up my long-sought-after bedroom any time soon! She abruptly said, "well, have a nice cruise!" In a "Freddy Krugar" kind of way.........Yikes, she was kind of scary!

My concern now is that these folks, who want our cabin, are going to approach us while onboard.....this should be very interesting!!!!

Practice these words before the cruise: "Horton, sick 'em", and of course train Horton to lick them nicely. ;)

Have a great cruise in the cabin you chose and paid for!!! :)

OMG: What a story. You know what they say, "anything can happen, anytime!"

I'm not a fearful person but I promise you, I will be looking over my shoulder a bit on this cruise! And, thank goodness, I do have Horton who does "alert" me to someone walking in back of me.......
