Back to the original topic...I am not sure I want to wake up in Labadee twice; however ignoring logistical issues, security issues, mosquitos, etc...I WOULD like a later departure and I do like the idea for a night time buffet, beach entertainment, etc. 12:00 AM departure seems like ample time to go back to the ship after a beach day, rest, clean up, go to dinner on board or on the island, see some entertainment on the island, hang out at bars until 11PM or so. That would be nice.

We are presently scheduled to sail on Quantum's 3/21 sailing and, yes, it is docking overnight at Labadee. When we originally booked, the itinerary was San Juan, Dominican Republic and Labadee. DR has been dropped and the ship is scheduled to arrive at Labadee at 4:30 and then will depart at 5:00 or something like that the next day. Don't see the point in being overnight at Labadee as there's no town or anything to do once you get there at 4:30. In fact, we are going to wait until the summer itineraries come and rebook for another date.

No way they'll let you off after dark, maybe not at all until the next day. The pier has not lighting. Don't think Labadee does either

I would expect a Voyager class ship in Key West in the future. When the Mariner left Galveston on the way to drydock, it stopped in Key West for a test docking and left. It passed its test with flying colors. Time will tell, though I doubt it will be an overnight stop because of blocking the sunsets.:)

Many years ago we were on a cruise that stopped in Key West. We enjoyed a beautiful sunset from the pool deck and the ship departed about 30 later! But that was long ago.

What about those one or two other RCI and Celebrity ships usually scheduled to arrive early the following day?

The Quantum overnight is probably an anomaly with them arriving after another ship has just departed. They won't have passengers ashore in the dark and they won't be able to get crew off to serve any food that late. It is probably just a "tie-up-and wait" for an early start the next day.

  • 9 months later...

I think if there was lighting to allow safe walking to and from ship, and some on shore lighting (even torches) it would be great to stay over in Labadee. Year after year it has continued to grow. If one takes a quick left after entering the island from the pier there is an entire complex there that could be used for on-shore-dining... No reason one couldn't walk down the paved sidewalk on the left side of the Peninsula, there are plenty of nice bars to sit at and have a evening drink and listen to the soft lapping of waves. Add a Haitian traditional island band, and/or entertainment of some type, all set to the backdrop of a glistening bonfire... Wow! If done right I think it'd be a welcome "change" mid week, and a private experience unlike any other cruise line offers. (All those Tommy Bahama shirts would actually be appropriate attire for a night ;) Then sleep in comfort and wake up and have a full Labadee beach day.

PS. Doing this on their "own island" makes sense... RC can "close down" everything for the night and check everyone in and out each night and day - as opposed to unleashing cruisers into a foreign city all night, hoping they make it on next day at departure.

Not on a bet. If you walk to the right when leaving Columbus Cove and head towards the back end of the compound (where the broken and spare wave runners are stored), there's got to be a really good reason it's fenced off with barbed wire and armed guards patrolling the perimeter that I'd just as soon not discover in the middle of the night.

That area of the compound makes me nervous in the middle of the day never mind at night.

Don't think it would ever happen because of the risk of malaria. Mosquitos like to come out around dusk, if you notice, the ships get out of there usually around 4pm.

yea and so do the Haitians .. I don't think u wanna be roamin around there at night ... or in Jamaica either ...

I doubt RCI would ever even consider this overnight scenario...safety being a major consideration.

Wow, thats interesting! I just looked and saw the same thing! Has to be a typo...they wouldn't be able to open the casino, shops, etc., correct?

isn't that just a U.S. law about casinos and shops not being open in port?

and I wonder if this is a mistake ... whats the point of sitting in Haiti overnight? so the pax can sit out on deck and swat bugs off themselves all night?

I didn't think it was just the US. I don't think the casino is open when we dock at Labadee. Maybe someone on the roll call will chime in...

Am I reading this correctly?

An evening in San Juan and basically a day in labadee for an 8 night cruise? I guess the ship is the destination.

I will be surprised if passengers are allowed to disembark march 25 afternoon in labadee.
