My Glory Cruise Review

I just returned from a 4 day Glory Cruise to St. John. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I wanted to do a review but I'm not a master of words or storytelling like many here so I'll do my best. I pretty much want to hit on things that I think are important and allow people to ask questions if they have any.

So here goes:

I flew into Boston the morning of the cruise. I took a 8:30 flight from DCA and landed at about 9:45. I only had a carry on so once I was off the flight I was on my way. I opted to take public transportation to the pier because I wanted to save money. The signs are well placed at Logan so I was able to find my way just by following the signs. To get to the pier you take the SL1 bus and then transfer to the SL2 bus. I checked the bus website the night before and determined that my bus fare would be $4.50. When the SL1 bus arrived the signs on the bus said "free". I double checked with the bus driver and the ride was free. I told the bus driver where I was going so he let me know where I needed to transfer. I asked if the next bus was free also and he said yes, just tell them you came from the airport bus. So score for me, my trip to the pier was free!

The wait for the SL2 bus was a bit long, maybe about 45 minutes. Once it came though, I was at the pier in no time. The bus stops right across a small street from the terminal...basically a 3 minute walk.

I arrived at the port at about 11 am. By 11:15 I was checked in waiting for boarding to begin. At 11:30 an announcement was made that they would begin boarding. I was Zone 6 but it moved quick. I was eating a shrimp burrito on board by 12:07!

Rooms were ready by 1. It may have been a little earlier. An announcement was made about something but I couldn't make out what was being said. Around one, I just decided to head toward the room and I asked someone along the way and they said it should be. I went on down and the room was ready.

I booked a 1A with two portholes. There was a twin bed and a sofa. I thought the room was nice. I would have preferred a queen but for the price the twin was just fine. I didn't experience any additional movement by being so close to the front which was great. I did hear a loud thunder sounding type noise the morning we docked in St. John. I guess that was the anchor. It did wake me up so that'd be something to consider if picking this room if you don't want to wake up early. I was in room 2211.

The food was over all good and it was served hot. On my last cruise on the Valor, the food was lukewarm at best. The only meal I didn't enjoy was Tuesday night which was short ribs and something else. I ate all my breakfasts in the dining room and all my dinners in the dining room. I had fish and chips for lunch on Monday and Guys on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The lack of a live band on the Lido Deck wasn't noticeable to me at first. I was sitting on a lounge chair waiting on my room to be ready and happened to glance up and thats when I spotted the DJ. At that point, I was reminded that there is normally live Carribean music played on the Lido Deck but it didn't really bother me. There is a band that plays on the casino stage each night. I didn't go see the piano player but a table mate of mine said he was good.

I went to see the Motorcity show which I found entertaining but not overly fantastic. It's something to do. I only went to one Comedy show (family friendly) and I didn't find him particularly funny. I skipped the adult shows because I was in the casino.

Speaking of the Casino, although I like to gamble I spent more time in there than I normally would because I developed a crush on one of the dealers. :p so if anyone is reading this and going on the Glory soon, if you see Srdan in the casino tell him Shareese says hi.

Disembarkation was very easy. There seemed to be less scrutiny by customs than I'm used to. My guess is because we only went to Canada. There was a SL2 bus waiting for passengers and when we got off to transfer there was an SL1 bus right down the block. I booked my returning flight for 11 am. I was at my gate by 8:30 AM. I tried to switch to an earlier flight but I didn't want to pay the $75 fee so I waited until 11. I left the ship rather early because I didn't know how long public transportation would take. Heading back I paid $2.50 for the bus.

I have most of the Funtimes so don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have.

Thank you for the review! Going next month and love getting any info on the ship that I can. First time on Carnival for us so we are anxious to see what it's like compared to other lines! How was the weather?

Thanks for the review! We cruised on the 9th...a good cruise...and I will say we were all amazed at how hot the breakfast was served in the MDR:eek: Our eggs were actually hot...a very pleasant surprise.

and...you're right...getting off the ship we basically just handed our custom cards to the agent standing and the end of the gangway...never even breaking stride while walking:):):)

we had a fast wild ride to the airport via cab...and also got there really early...not much traffic in Boston on a Sunday morning...all in all a great cruise but cool cool weather..

Thanks for the review!

Can you share which movies were shown on deck? Any kid-friendly selections? We are traveling with our two young kids on this cruise in August.

Thanks!

Sorry...no it was cool for us so we never actually watched anything from outside...I did notice the TV was lacking in news channels...but think it did have the Cartoon network:):):)

Also on the Glory on the 9th (Hi Jane). I'm not sure what all the movies were but I do know that the repeating movies in the cabin (which may be the ones that they offer on deck) were Hunger Games, Undercover Brother, an animated one that I should know, & one with Reese Witherspoon who is a spy & has two suitors that are also spies (a comedy I believe). I only know this because while waiting for the kids to get ready, we'd have the TV on.

If you have kids then make sure you check out the Hasbro Game when they have it on ship. It was fun to watch & if you're lucky you get picked to be on a team.

Sorry I don't know what movies were played on deck. I'll check the Funtimes when I get home to see if it's mentioned in there.

Thanks for the review. I did the CTN on the Glory out of Norfolk. I enjoyed the ship.

It is good to hear how easy it is to take public transportation in Boston from the airport to the cruise terminal. I wouldn't mind doing the cruise to Canada, and knowing how easy it is to get to the port makes it more appealing.

No problem. That's what I was hoping to achieve. I wrestled with if I was going to take a taxi or give public transportation a try. I didn't want to spend the approx. $25 I was reading to get there by taxi and back so I just went for it. Turns out my apprehensions were baseless. I just can't stress how easy it was...and quick too!

I got off in port not exactly sure what I was going to do. I opted to take a horse drawn trolley tour of the historic area of St. John. The guide was a bit hard to understand but it was interesting. That tour was $20 and lasted about an hour. After being dropped off I then walked around. There was an open market going so I looked at their items. Then I walked around on this walking path near the market. On the way back I stopped in the indoor market place. I purchased post cards and stamps and mailed those off and purchased a few other souvenirs. I then headed back to the ship for lunch and then napped on the serenity deck.

There were many options for Carnival sponsored tours and only a few you could do on your own. I left the ship a bit late so I may have missed many others.

leaving tomorrow for the 5 nighter - which dining room is open for the lunch during the embarkation. Buffet line might be too long, I have my 85yo moms with me and we would rather have a sit down.

Dining room is not opened during embarkation- Sea days only is when its opened for lunch.

there is quite a selection of buffets to choice from-- there is more then one. and there is burgers, tacos, pizza, deli, Fish & Chips.

Depending on when you arrive to how crowded it will be.

People who tend to arrive on the ship before 1pm will take seats and stay in those seats until the cabins are ready. (so they dont have to carry their stuff around with them. By 1pm it clears out

arriving at the pier before noon-- its not so bad

I'm not sure. I have the fun times from that day but not the part you detach and keep with you. I think that's the part that had the MDR open for lunch. I got a burrito for lunch on embarkation day and it wasn't Crowded. I
