Solo Cruiser's Roll Call

Hi, everyone!

It's early - 06 Sept 2015, r/t Brisbane, to Papua New Guinea on the Sun Princess.

PNG has been on my bucket list, but previously cost-prohibitive & dangerous as a solo.

I'd love to know if anyone else is considering this one!

Take care,

Linda

Well, I can understand it if you are really going to see "how Disney does it" for business purposes;).

I know I have heard many things about them over the years....

1) there is no casino on any of their ships

2) there are areas that kids are not allowed...wow:D...LOL...adult

only areas

3) Disney is much more $$ than most other lines and they still sail full.

4) Food in the Specialty Restaurants is supposed to be very good.

and of course, it is "DISNEY"......everything is supposed to be about

"The Mouse" and they do everything very well.

Hope you have a good time....let us know your thoughts when you

get back.

I'll definitely come back and post my thoughts. The things you listed are the main reasons I'm willing to give it a try. My understanding is that they really do enforce their adults only areas. They even have an adults only section on their private island, Castaway Cay. Now THAT sounds amazing. :D

I've booked their specialty restaurant and actually enjoy Disney shows so I'm thinking I will enjoy this trip. I've already prepared myself that it's not going to be like other cruises I've been on. Probably more low key, with the adults only areas emptying out earlier than the typical Royal Caribbean ship, but I'm going in with my Kindle to read and I could use a little R & R.

Hello, all.

I'll be sailing solo on my first Disney cruise on the Wonder, January 9, 2015. I've traveled solo before and enjoyed it. I'm thinking it will be a different vibe sailing solo on Disney. Anyone else done this before?

I have sailed aboard the Disney Wonder in Oct 2012 for a 7-day California coastal. While the concern about the abundance of young ones is understandable, Disney ships have large youth activities staff that really knows how to keep kids busy, keeping any disruptive behaviors to a minimum. If memory serves me correctly, there are also adults-only spaces, which are enforced so that adult passengers can have their peace and quiet.

Compared to the cruises I've had with Carnival and Holland America, Disney was definitely a different vibe. Some have mentioned no casinos aboard. No problem for me since I don't gamble. It also feels like an afloat Disney park, with the costumed characters aboard. If you are a Disney fan, you will have opportunities to take pictures with the Disney characters aboard. Unlike other lines, the photographers will be more than happy to take pictures with your personal cameras along with theirs.

Customer service was also top notch. The fact that I was a solo passenger had no influence in how the crew treated me. As far as they were concerned, I was part of "the family." At dinner, I was seated with five other solo passengers, most who have sailed Disney previously. The dining experience will also be like no other because you and your table will rotate to different dining rooms each night. There are three dining rooms with different themes, with the food, waiter uniforms, and shows that correspond to the different themes. I found the Animator's Palate dining room the most interesting because while the walls start off as black and white drawings, they transform into colorful pictures with lighting.

There is probably more that I can post, but I wanted to make sure that I answer your questions. I enjoyed the cruise tremendously. Would I sail Disney again? Sure, but I would have to consider price and itinerary since Disney cruises cost more than many others. Have fun!

Hi! I will be going on my first solo cruise Jan 24 on the Norwegian Getaway. I have only cruised on carnival so this will be my first time on NCL and solo as well. I am 27 years old. I will be trying out their studio cabin. Has anyone done this before? Any suggestions or recommendations? This will be my first solo trip ever. Kind of nervous I may not meet anyone around my age. I have also never really eaten dinner by myself.

Embolden by the brave and helpful folks on this forum, I just completed my first solo cruise on the Allure. I followed the advice of the veteran cruisers and put myself out there, went to trivia, joined teams (and actually won a couple of prizes). I talked to folks at the bars and had an all around great cruise. It was so much fun I only got off the ship once, in Jamaica, for an adventure with a couple I met on the roll call. I had a cabin with a balcony overlooking Central Park, and enjoyed the concerts in the park with beautiful classical and easy listening style music. I am sold that this is the best way to cruise. I met other solos who would never go back to sharing cabins with friends. I will be booking another soon. Thanks to all of you who encouraged me to try it. Bless you

Since losing my darling husband in April, 2013. I've cruised by myself twice. At first it was so different because I constantly looked for him and for acknowledgment of what I was doing.

You soon learn that you're okay. You're not going to melt or break into a million pieces that you can't or won't be able to pick up.

I met so many wonderful folks and made some lifelong friends who I'm in contact with post cruise.

I have two cruises booked; one in April and one in Dec. of 2015 and I can't wait to have the cabin all to myself and enjoy every minute of it. One is a 10 day cruise and the other is for 2 weeks.

One great big surprise on my Disney Dream was the intensity of their deck parties. Great music through a fantastic sound system, big screen, actors/characters doing skits, dancing and fireworks at sea! Best deck party I have ever attended!

As stated, attend the evening get togethers in the studio lounge. An NCL agent will arrange dining for the group. There will be a chalk board to leave messages, ask about excursions or ship activities.

Prior to sailing, read and join the roll call for that week right here on cruise critic. Enjoy!

I'm going on that cruise (in just 3 days!!!) We are on the Roll Call together. I have a studio and I think I remember you have one also. Even if you don't - hope to meet you in the studio lounge either way.

Doing my first solo on a 4 day Carnival Sensation Dec. 26 out of Port Canaveral. Too good a rate to pass up. Since my husband passed last year I need to tip my toes into the solo vacationers club. Anyone else going?

I went on the Epic solo and had a blast.

Check the dailies for the singles get together every day in the lounge. Usually around 5pm. There will be sign up sheets for dinners and the shows so you don't have to go alone. After the first couple of days a small group usually forms and goes together without signing up.

Also go to the roll call for your cruise. When you get on board you'll already "know" a few people. Go to the meet and greet. I met a few solos there before I got to the singles lounge. Plus I met a few other people who I ended up seeing all week.

There were some people in the studios your age. But definitely go to the lounge the first couple of nights as they either a) pair up or b) meet other people around the ship and don't come back.

Don't worry, you'll have a blast!!

I am right now cruising on NCL Breakaway. We are in Port Canaveral for the day and I have come ashore to rejoin the CyberWorld for a while. The Breakaway is a wonderful ship with so much to do and it is very Solo Friendly. There is now a core group of solo/single cruisers dining and hanging out together after only 2 days. The whole concept of the Studio Cabin and Lounge and the meetings every evening is excellent. Thanks NCL !!!

  • 2 weeks later...
Anyone else booked on this cruise? I've sailed this itinerary multiple times, but never on the Miracle. It looks like a nice ship and I'm really looking forward to some R&R and FUN!

I was on the Miracle when it sailed NYC to Bahamas. Really liked that ship. Perfect size and great amenities. Have a great cruise.
