Dollar's or Euro's or Kuna's in Dubrovnik

Hi all, first timers on Mariner, sailing 29th Aug. My question refers to the above. When in Dubrovnik we are taking a taxi to the cable car station, does anyone know whether Dollars or Euros are accepted? Many thanks

I checked out TripAdvisor -- it sounds like many places will take Euro's (more than will take U.S. dollars but some places will) but they do not give a good exchange rate. Also checked a website for Dubrovnik and found the following:

Local businesses such as restaurants and shops price in Kuna and most only accept Kuna. Some restaurants, shops, and cafes in popular tourist areas such as Dubrovnik’s Old Town will accept Euro, but generally at a poor exchange rate. Very few, if any, businesses accept British Pounds or U.S. Dollars.

Visitors to Croatia can get Kuna from ATM machines at all the major airports and at banks in city centers throughout Croatia. Most airports and cities also have exchange offices that will exchange a variety of currencies (and travelers’ checks) for Kuna. However, the best rates are usually obtained at ATM machines.

Aloha,

When we walked the walls in Dubrovnik last year (a must do if one does not have mobility issues), we had to go to a bank and get Kuna as they would not take Euros, USD or a credit card; however, we had a snack at a cafe, and they took both Euro and cc, I believe.

Aloha from Hanalei,

Mark

When we were in Croatia, some places took euros. In fact, some places prominently advertised that euros were accepted--and gave you a correspondingly horrible exchange rate. I used a credit card for my few purchases, but if you want to walk the wall, you will need cash in kunas.

We just returned from Dubrovnik. I lost my hat so needed to buy a replacement. We used our credit card . It was a Visa card with the chip in it. It was a small tourist shop. As we were on an excursion with a fun stop for local treats we didn't have a need to purchase anything else.

It is expected that they will join the EU -- if it doesn't collapse!

Croatia joined the EU on July 1, but will not yet join the single currency. We were in Hungary last year, they did accept Euros, but the price was adjusted accordingly

Thanks for the update. Their travel websites need to be updated:-)
