From my friend in Queensland who was going to cruise with us. Apparently she spoke to her T.A. who confirmed it. Also if you look at Princess Cruises Website it does mention World Cruuises will be leaving from L.A. for the 1st time. Anjo.:(

It will be interesting to see which ship they use. Pacific Princess does her WC every year , but that is a specialised market as its a small ship. If they do a WC from LA they will be pitching it at the US market and they will not go for an old ship (in their eyes) such as Sun, Dawn or Sea Princess.

They could be sending Diamond or Sapphire Princess.

Is there any talk of a WC on the Princess board?

That would give a clue.

I personally would never do a full world cruise on Sun, Dawn or Sea Princess. For a number of reasons they are unsuitable for long voyages and I will never be happy on them for a long trip. If the story is true then it would have to be on a newer ship and we all know from past experience that no cruise line will ever base their better ships in this backwater called Australia. Sad but true. We miss out on so much.

We were on the Dawn Princess inaugural world cruise in 2009. Although we got off in San Francisco - it was a great cruise and the people continuing on were all having a great time. Although we haven't cruised with Princess for quite some time, the Dawn Princess is a nice ship and if it had an Elite Lounge and a Concierge Lounge for the loyal and/or suite cruisers, I would cruise again on her quite happily.

Cheers

Di

I was on the Dawn Princess over Christmas and going again on her in November.

I liked her, even though I've cruised on the Ruby Princess twice. About to try the Sea Princess in August, which I believe is similar to the Dawn.

You can play "spot the differences". :) Our first ship of the trio was the Sun (for a few cruises) before we went on the Dawn, then the Sea. We enjoy them all and will be going on all three in the next year.:)

After spending eight weeks on the Grand, I cannot say it was any better than the local 'ladies'.

SARAH..Yes, Sea Princess is a sister ship to Dawn Princess, along with Sun Princess, all 'Sun Class' ships. I have been on all three, the trifecta.

I don't agree with Sutho :)

The US has older ships operating, and based in it, than we do.

If only about world cruises, people sailing those cruises go for comfort than glitz and facilities. After 60-120 days on a ship, new stuff feels just as old! Look how long the Cunard ships have done world cruises.

The four Sun class ships are not about their age, its more about their design and size constraints. Limited facilities compared to what is on the newer ones. One of the main issues for me is the lack of a glass roof over one pool. That is a factor on ships for me as I swim and no cruise line can guarantee the weather. Having a sheltered outdoor area is a bonus. It is disappointing that some of the new ships do not share this feature. Cabin layout is smaller. Take the Grand class as a better example with more hanging and storage space. The limited number of public rooms and size is another factor. All four Sun class ships have two main show areas. The size of the theatre is tiny compared to the likes of Aurora and Oriana and the similar sized Arcadia (Vista class). Aurora and Oriana have three main show areas. Those two ships actually have a cinema which the Sun class lacks, giving Aurora and Oriana more variety for entertainment.

The only Princess ships I would consider a World Cruise on are the original Grand Class - Grand, Golden, Star, the Diamond and Sapphire and the Coral and Island Princess. All other ships are off limits for me as not meeting with my personal tastes

Just out of curiosity can anyone name the FOUR Sun class ships as they were built??? I can!

OK Sutho here is my answer to your Saturday Trivia, hope there is a good prize, not just a luggage tag.

Four Sun Class ships, built by Fincantieri in Italia.

1. Sun Princess - 1995 Princess Cruises

2. Dawn Princess- 1997 ditto

3. Sea Princess - 1998 ditto

4. Ocean Princess- 2000 (now Oceana P&O UK)

Over and out.

Surely the prize would be a lanyard, since Sutho doesn't use them ... :p

The Ocean Princess tricks a lot of people as they confuse it with the present Ocean Princess. Most people will just say Oceana as its season with Princess was not very long. Sea Princess also spent time at P&O as Adonia but for some reason was a dismal failure where Oceana was a success.

I have liked those ships for short cruises like the Tasmania cruise I did but could not really do a long voyage on them.

My next long cruise will be 31 nights on the Golden Princess. Had it been any other ship without the sliding glass roof over the pool it would have turned me off. The itinerary I am doing next year to South America I would not have done on the Crown, Emerald, Ruby or Caribbean Princess. They are on my no-go list. Too many passengers on a ship designed for less passengers in the early 90's

Did you like them equally AT? We are trying the Sea Princess next year. Also, in 2015, Sea Princess is cruising from Bris to Syd then out to Papeete etc, Hawaii (35 days), back to Sydney, then back to Brisbane. Very interesting, as we could do it all with no flying! :D

Incidentally, we have never felt crowded on Sun Princess.

Sorry - with Sutho here. I think his view of what is needed (for him) on an extended cruise makes sense. Although we only had a short cruise on Dawn P it was enough to show me that I would not be happy on that ship and although could manage something short, I could never contemplate a world cruise on her. It is all a matter of design and facilities.

I can accept that some might love her (and Princess) but Sutho has every right to state that he does not want to do a WC on any Sun class ship. His reasons are sound IMO.

The three ships are like triplets. It is interesting to walk around and try to spot the differences - a revolving door on the nightclub on one ship, where there is an opening door on another. On one ship there is a decorative glass panel, but not on another. The differences are minor and I can't remember which is which because we have been on all three. We don't have a favourite out of the three because the differences are so minor.

By the way, that itinerary to French Polynesia is one of the best available out of Australia. Do it. :D:D

Which Sea Princess cruise are you planning to go on? Is it the French Polynesia cruise or another one? Maybe we will cruise together again. :):):)

I agree completely Sutho. And I also second the opinion that you should offer a lanyard as the prize for your quiz. :)
