You play with your S&S card in the machine, but you can put in cash or use credits from your players bank. To cash out you must have your players bank set up and all credits on the machine are uploaded to your bank. None of the machines payout in coins anymore.

It's really easy to set up your players bank and you can do so even when the casino isn't open. It's always the 1st thing I do after getting on the ship. The instructions are on each of the machines.

You can also download credits from your S&S account and it will show up as an entertainment expense. There is no fee for this. So if I have any OBC existing when I get on the ship, that's the money I use first in the casino, then I'll start using the cash that I brought to play with.

As of January 2013 on Carnival:

For table games cash is still the norm, although you can use your card for an additional fee. For slots you can put in cash or use your card with no fee. As another poster said no cash is given out by the machines. You have to go to the cage with your card to get your winnings in the event you get lucky.

Can you really do this? The lines I've been on recently said OBC cannot be used in the casino.

You can on Carnival. When you download credits from your onboard account it shows up as an entertainment expense and is no different than any other purchase you make on board.

I have $220 OBC for my next cruise and plan to download it all to my players bank as soon as the casino opens. Then I can cash out 1/2 of it to give to my sister.
