Rare Germancruiser Posted August 19, 2013 #5 Share Posted August 19, 2013 Ah those problems with their propulsions , they troubled the Millenium Class from the very start! I was on a Summit cruise that was shortened by one day due to those problems. So it " runs in the family" !
specialdiet Posted August 19, 2013 #6 Share Posted August 19, 2013 Am also a guest onboard poor ol' Millie. Some of the staff (when they don't think any guests are around) are pretty incredulous. Most of the guests of course don't know about last week, but I think word of that is going to be spreading faster now. I don't know if the engineers they brought in to fix the problem last week stuck around "just in case". Fingers crossed they did, though I imagine they're also feeling a bit sheepish right now. Still, can't complain about safety first.
Stern145 Posted August 19, 2013 #7 Share Posted August 19, 2013 Sunday 8/18 @ 7 pm. We are on the Alaska southbound cruise on the Millenium. Captain just announced that they have an electrical problem and we are headed back to Ketchikan on one engine. Sounds like the same problem as last week. Waiting for an update from the Captain. Here we go again.

Cindy Posted August 19, 2013 #11 Share Posted August 19, 2013 I don't sail on the Millie for almost 4 weeks, but I sure don't like hearing about major problems 2 weeks in a row! My neighbors are flying to Anchorage on Thursday for Friday's cruise...I'm a little worried for them!!
julia Posted August 19, 2013 #12 Share Posted August 19, 2013 Pretty surprising news since she was "just in the shop" (per se). :( So sorry to hear this is affecting your cruise Cruisestitch.... will look forward to your updates.

paul_m_07042@yahoo.com Posted August 19, 2013 #14 Share Posted August 19, 2013 I was on Millennium last week scheduled to sail from Seward to Vancouver. The ship was 4 hours late arriving for embark, it was only after we boarded that they told us we'd have to stay in Seward for 3 days and then spend 4 days at sea. No port stops straight to Vancouver. It was torturous! Thank God for the good entertainment and staff/food. And thanks to the fun factory on board for keeping my kids from losing their minds!! c-legs Posted August 19, 2013 #15 Share Posted August 19, 2013 Saw her , docked in Ketchikan....on the Port of Ketchikan webcam.... pretty eiree feeling seeing her there while everything is somewhat dark all around.. She swung around to dock starboard side.....obviously, that azipod is still functionnal...or they used a tug for turning assistance.

NJBeast Posted August 19, 2013 #18 Share Posted August 19, 2013 Our port call to Icy Strait Point tomorrow is now cancelled. Passengers do not have to be back on board until 8am Monday. Seem to be no issues affecting passengers. Just had a great meal in the Olympic. But no casino or shops! After leaving Ketchikan, there was a bump like we had gone over a speed bump in the road. I mentioned to my dw that it seems like we were not moving anymore. The navigation channel on the tv in the room confirmed it.
Rare cruisestitch Posted August 19, 2013 Author #19 Share Posted August 19, 2013 A few bars in town seem to be open and a handful of passengers have left the ship and are out wandering the darkened streets of Ketchikan The comedian tonight did a very funny bit as Paul Baya, cruise Director was on stage for the wrap-up. From offstage he did a spot on imitation of the Captain's voice "This is your captain speaking to you from the navigational bridge. We are unable to complete the electrical repairs because its too dark in here and we're going to have to wait until the sun comes up". Baya was laughing so hard he was crying. No updates expected now until 8 tomorrow morning.
watson524 Posted August 19, 2013 #20 Share Posted August 19, 2013 I felt that bump too and mentioned maybe we took out a fishing boat like the one that refused to give way yesterday. Very disappointing as we were looking forward to the biggest zip line tomorrow and have heard the ones at the other ports don't really compare. Guess even if we got going tomorrow they wouldn't just skip the last sea day and back up all the other stops so we saw them all just a day later. vermonter16 Posted August 19, 2013 #23 Share Posted August 19, 2013 Hope you guys get sailing soon. It's always disappointing if you have to miss any ports of call... I probably would have been wandering the streets of Ketchikan too. If there is one port I'd like to get stuck at - that would be the one. Pretty weird seeing it on the cam when it is super dark!
