Sea Belle Posted September 11, 2013 #1 Share Posted September 11, 2013 Have rules for using the OBC's changed? I figure I had better check because a few other things are different since 2012 cruise. I seem to remember the spa, casino, and excursions do not apply.
catl331 Posted September 11, 2013 #2 Share Posted September 11, 2013 Any time we've gotten OBCs they have been applied as a credit balance on day 1, and charges from there on reduce the balance, so we have had no restrictions. They may say OBC can't be used for the casino, but when you draw money from your on board account in a slot machine it's just like any other charge. We don't use the spa services, and pre-book our excursions, but I can't see why they would be any different. A charge is a charge is a charge. sail7seas Posted September 11, 2013 #3 Share Posted September 11, 2013 We have always used our OBC for everything we do on the ship BUT we have never tried to use any in Casino so don't specifically know about that. Salon, Bars, Excursions, Shops, HSC...... We have had OBC apply to all.
Sea Belle Posted September 11, 2013 Author #4 Share Posted September 11, 2013 Thanks, ladies. Now I can start deciding how to divide our credits.
sail7seas Posted September 11, 2013 #5 Share Posted September 11, 2013 You're welcome. Have fun deciding how to spend the OBC's. :)
Krazy Kruizers Posted September 11, 2013 #6 Share Posted September 11, 2013 Thanks, ladies. Now I can start deciding how to divide our credits. Remember that each evening the Hotel Service Charge will be deducted for each person in the cabin from your shipboard credit -- $12 for Suites and $11.50 for all other categories -- per person. Typhoon1 Posted September 11, 2013 #7 Share Posted September 11, 2013 The HSC will eat those credits up pretty quickly. Any balance will be returned to the credit card on file at the end of the cruise.
Sea Belle Posted September 12, 2013 Author #8 Share Posted September 12, 2013 Oh, I have already reserved the HSC ,first thing to figure into the total. We also give additional tips in cash for special service. HAL crew is special and the main reason we continue to travel with the cruise line. The perks don't really warrant the extra charge.
take us away Posted September 12, 2013 #10 Share Posted September 12, 2013 The HSC will eat those credits up pretty quickly. Any balance will be returned to the credit card on file at the end of the cruise. Per HAL just this May, any OBC provided by HAL (with the booking or stock owner credits) cannot be refunded if not used with on board. Only OBC provided by your TA or friends as a gift can be either credited to your credit card or refunded per check at the end of the cruise. Rare kazu Posted September 12, 2013 #12 Share Posted September 12, 2013 does Vista suite on the Maasdam get charged $12? The perks don't really warrant the extra charge. I believe the $12 is applied to all suites - including the Vistas. since there are few on this ship, I would think (and hope) that the service should be good. We have a BB guarantee for our next cruise;)

Are we really talking about $0.50 a day not being worth it? WOW!!!!

Only OBC provided by your TA or friends as a gift can be either credited to your credit card or refunded per check at the end of the cruise. FWIW, the same OBC rules apply to all the Carnival Corp brand ships. I've used the shareholders OBC for the gratuities on Princess, Costa, and Carnival ships too. And as stated above, unused shareholder OBC is not refundable. In fact no cruise line promotional OBC is refundable. An example of this would be the OBC you get from booking a future cruise while onboard a ship. However, you can get a refund on TA purchased OBC, etc.

As always here the question is taken wrongly by someone - so I won't bother to explain it also is not worth it. it was not meant to be a complaint, that all I'll say. goodbye

mowmow Posted September 12, 2013 #17 Share Posted September 12, 2013 Well, since we're mostly discussing OBC rules, I thought this might apply: Can you divvy up the OBC so it's applied to each person's account? Or is it already figured that way? Our TA (big store Travel) gave us $XX for the cabin. Will HAL divide it evenly between both people? Since it's me and my Mom traveling, I thought it would be best if we each had our own account. Then I won't have to feel guilty if I want to buy a Stroopwaffel or a chai latte or have a glass of wine. She's VERY frugal and I'm not interested in being treated like I'm still 5.
