What can shipboard credit be used for?

Not gambling though, right?

That depends on where your Shipboard Credit comes from.

Credits which result from promotional swag are not usable in the Casino, but Credits which result from cash money paid to the Cruise Line usually are.

Alternatively, there is an option for buying Casino Specific Shipboard Credits in the "Bon Voyage Gift" Section of the Oceania Website.

Can shipboard credit be used for alcohol, shore excursions , in the gift shops and in the spa?

Also for visits to the ship's doctor. A couple of years ago we had a $700 OBC, which by coincidence turned out to be the exact amount of my medical bill.

Does anyone know if the shops stock Estée Lauder make up or Channel perfume? These are often good value for us UK folks. I need to decide whether to purchase at airport or wait and see if they are available on board.

Depending on departure airport.....I'd say that there's more choice at the airport:)

There again, if you are flying intra EU,still VAT (?) the ship will be cheaper.

Sorry, don't suppose that was much help:p

Thanks, that's my dilemma ship would be cheapest option if they had the items I wanted. We have very little time in the airport on our return journey so our other option is Heathrow on the way out. Decisions, decisions

There's a 'duty free' in Heathrow T5 arrivals, but I don't suppose they'll have a choice to suit you..mostly chocs,Molton Brown and alcohol:(:(

Have a look on Heathrow's website, it may be useful:)

Suggest you re-post this as a separate question with the heading something like: Anyone currently on Marina / Riviera or Regatta / Nautica, depending on whether you are sailing an O ship or an R ship. I don't know if the boutiques are different, but it's possible. Anyway, maybe someone could check it out for you and post the price of one or two products (Is that allowed on CC?) so you have a general basis of comparison because you want to know not only are the products available, but how the pricing stacks up to duty free. Good luck.

Even if a current look at your particular ship's Boutique stock shows they carry your item(s), I strongly recommend you not assume the item will be in stock when you sail.

If there is one thing the shop is known for it's the lack of a consistent inventory with adequate sizes, etc.

Any traditional retailer would be embarresed to have the ship's percentage of outs and the resulting lost sales.

Sorry I haven't had time to visit these boards over the last few days.

Thank you all so much for your very helpful replies to my question about Channel and Estée Lauder. I will wait and see what they have on board and if I'm not successful hopefully have time to purchase in duty free on the way home.

I really appreciate the time people take to answer questions.:)

Doubt this will ever happen but am curious what happens to on board credit if you don't use it all? Do they give you a check? Hand you some cash? Or does it simply disappear :-(

Depends where the credit came from

If from the cruise line either directly from a promotion or the TA as an incentive it is use it or lose it

If it was a gift from someone you get a refund in cash

Chanel is usually hit or miss in the ship boutiques. Sometimes they have some of the makeup and eau du toilette. And if they have it, it very well might not be your scent; I rarely find my favorite anywhere except Duty Free in airports in France although I found one size. Ironically, Sephora stores don't carry Chanel in the USA but they have it in some European counties.

I found myself in the boutique on the last night of a cruise buying a travel mug, a teddy bear and overpriced M&M's. Unless the ship board credit is due to a cash gift certificate, I'm afraid it disappears so should you find yourself in that position and M&M's don't float your boat, bump up your gratuities.
