I Miss the Discount Books

Recommended Posts

I was recently on the Explorer and I forgot about the" No More Discount Book" thing. They gave us a paper telling us what our benefits were, but Id much rather have that voucher book...why? I dont know...maybe I just grown accustomed to it, but I missed it. I think it was something that I saw per se' Like when we would go to Johnny Rockets in the past and I handed them the coupon. Now you just hand them your seapass. I guess its just a mental thing. ;)

I am the opposite. Looking forward to not having the coupons as I tend to forget them and have to run back and get them :o

LOL....we are that way also. I think it is the old saying "it's hard to teach an old dog new tricks." LOL After 2 or 3 cruises we probably won't miss them nearly as much. Just takes time to get used to them. LOL

Recently returned from the Freedom of the Seas where I experienced the "no coupon needed" experience --- what a relief as I tend to forget them as well.

Overall, I liked the books better.

The ecoupons were rather new to Allure during our B2B, and their were three glitches the first week.

-The first week the letter from loyalty was not in our cabin. We had to wait until we could go to the loyalty desk to get the letter.

-At guest services, we asked how to activate out free Internet. We were told to go set up an account then come back to guest services. Of course, we later learned that was incorrect; guest services should have given us an access code.

-At dinner, I ordered two glasses of wine, specifying that I wanted to use the BOGO coupon. Instead, they rang up one glass of wine using the 25% off coupon. Getting that fixed was slow and painful.

I thought I read that for internet, it automatically applied the free minutes when you logged on the first time.

I liked the paper coupon booklets better. We had a glitch with the BOGO beer coupon. DH had no clue why the bartender gave him two beers and he passed the extra on to someone he didn't even know. Give me my booklets back!

On the card is better, so much easier. Just you have to remember to use them, don't count on the servers to remind you. Some did and some didn't on Oasis on my pass sailing.

When you can hand them something, it gets taken care off. Also forgot about a few of the "coupons" since they were pre-loaded. We had a family royal suite and didn't get a list in our cabin. Went to the casino for the free pull and they printed us off a list on receipt paper. They need to automate the system more, so it automatically deducts the "coupon" with out being asked to.

Yes the coupon is on your card, when you go and setup your username and password and swipe your card to setup the account, you will first use it you will notice you will have x amount of dollars as credit, this will be used first, once you run out and you log in again, it will give you an option of buying a package or pay per minute, if you buy a package it will all take of x percentage depending on the your status.

Not for the Allure, was just off a B2B last week. You need an access code if you are using free minutes unless it just changed.

Another way to confuse people, not being uniformed fleet wide. :D Oasis is done the way I describe it as of last week.

As you have surmised, it is different on different ships. Oasis and Allure have different internet setups.

The procedure you describe would not work on Allure. On Allure, one must get at access code at GS to use the free minutes. Unfortunately we were instructed incorrectly on out first trip to GS. we ended up frustrated in the computer center until a person on the second week of B2B told us about access codes. Also on Allure, the access code can be used only on one device, so if you use a few minutes via wifi on your mobile device, you could not later log in on a ship computer. since there were no wireless printers (or so we were told), that is a problem if you later need to print something.

While the coupons are supposed to be automatically applied, this does not happen very often. Make sure that you know what coupons you are using, and at the point of sale, verify with the cashier that the coupon has been applied.

Otherwise be prepared to spend a lot of time at guest services on your last night!

I would prefer that a coupon not be applied unless I ask for it. It should be my choice when I want it to be applied. For example, I'd rather use drink coupons on the more expensive drinks. I certainly don't want it applied to a less expensive soda.
