Collapsible beach tent confiscated!

Hey all - just wanted to give you a heads up. We tried to take a Coleman collapsible beach tent on Carnival last week (I always pack waaaay to much) and the security officers from the port in San Juan confiscated it saying that it is against Carnival's policy to allow "home appliances" on board.

When we asked to see the policy they stated "well it doesn't specifically say beach tent but you can't take it on board."

We packed the poles in a separate bag and they went through fine, but they confiscated the tent.

I sent a note to Carnival today but I doubt I get the kind of answer that I'm looking for which is simply that I'd like to see the policy and how they consider a tent a home appliance when the tent doesn't have a power cord. Iron, yes. Steamer, yes. Coffee Maker, yes. But a NYLON TENT?

Anyone else had this issue come up?
