Room service when we're NOT in the room??

Recommended Posts

Hello,

For the past 2 cruises with royal caribbean cruises I've had the same problem. I have a habit of going to the gym at around 4pm, and when i'm finished, the windjammer is closed for dinner preparations. Therefore, before my workouts, I always ask for a glass of skim milk/some chicken salad or fruit.

However, EVERY time I come back there is nothing on the table. Despite me telling them REPEATEDLY to leave it on the table even if I'm not there, they seem to think it polite to wait until im in there or something.

arrghhh have any of you experienced the same problem?? Any advice?

Thanks!

As others have said, room service delivery personnel do not have master keys to access your room when it is empty. My advise? Order it at a time when you can be there to receive it.

Seems to me that it would be a lot easier for you to find something to snack on and your milk at lunch. Then just take it with you back to the room and put it in the cooler till you want it.

I can think of several reasons they would not leave food if you are not there. Security, food contamination come to mind. RCL does not want to be involved with any potential problems. I would be very surprised if they would allow a food handler come into the room alone if nobody else was there.

Honestly I´d never even considered to order room Service for a time when I´m not in the room.

I don´t think it would be reasonable to expect the room Service to be delivered with nobody in the cabin.

The whole Thing however reminded me of this one;):D

Room Service(RS): ''Morny, Ruin sorbees''

Guest : ''Sorry, I thought I dialled room-service''

RS : ''Rye..Ruin sorbees..morny! Djewish to oder sunteen??''

Guest : ''Uh..yes..I'd like some bacon and eggs''

RS : ''Ow July den?''

Guest : ''What??''

RS : ''Ow July den?...pry,boy,pooch?''

Guest : ''Oh, the eggs! How do I like them? Sorry, scrambled

please.''

RS : ''Ow July dee baychem...crease?''

Guest : ''Crisp will be fine''

RS : ''Hokay. An San tos?''

Guest : ''What?''

RS : ''San tos. July San tos?''

Guest : ''I don't think so''

RS : ''No? Judo one toes??''

Guest : ''I feel really bad about this, but I don't know what

'judo one toes' means.''

RS : ''Toes! toes!...why djew Don Juan toes? Ow bow singlish

Guest : ''English muffin!! I've got it! You were saying 'Toast.'

Last cruise room service was able to leave orders in our room. They even volunteered the service when I said I would be out of the room. So, it is possible; I suppose it just depends on the ship. I did leave a tip on the desk and they took it, which was good.

Advice as requested - Order it when you get to the room like everyone else.

Thanks for the laugh Paul:) I brought that up once and was lectured about being politically incorrect........

And I agree about not ordering room service if I'm not in the room.

Do they have a phone in the gym? Maybe you could just call room service from the gym 5 minutes before you leave. By the time you arrive at your room the food should arrive only a few minutes later. Never tried this so not sure if it would work or not.

Not sure if this would work either, but I would say accepting room Service orders from any other phone than your cabin phone would open the possibility of for pranks. People could start calling in orders for rooms not theirs from any public phones. But maybe it´s not an issue and they allow this.

Seriously; I myself would not ask nor expect this. Why not call from a house phone when you are done with your workout, and the wait will be shorter by the time you return to your room?

Yes it is. Have used RS many times while not in the cabin. The tip is left on the table. Sometimes we put in a standing order, after the first delivery we put the tip by the empty and the next day our order appears and the tip disappears.:D

We have also had stuff delivered from the mdr when not there.

Never had the first concern trusting the crew coming to the cabin for delivery when not there. Its their job.
