Children at the bar / bar stools

As far as Bar Stools and sitting up at the bar: While I don't think there are any rules against this, I don't recall seeing any kids sitting up at the bars on the bar stools on any Celebrity cruise I've been on. So while it might happen it is pretty unlikely that you'll run into it let along to the extent it would become a problem.

Other than the Casino bar, and the Sky Lounge (other names on M class) in the evening, I don't think there are any rules against kids in the bars. And in the case of the Sky Lounge I don't know if the prohibition in the evening is against all kids or just those not accompanied by a parent.

While you do not see kids in other the bars and lounges very often I've definitely seen families with their kids in a lounge area while the parents are having a drink, especially in the pre-dinner hours. I don't see anything wrong with this nor any reason why a family sailing with kids should be prohibited from having a drink in one of the ship's lounges. I have not seen groups of kids on their own (without adults) in the lounges or bars on Celebrity ships.

I have a delicate question....are children allowed to sit in the bar... or actually at the bar on the stools on Celebrity cruise ships?

in the bar yes, AT the bar I think is out of line and yes even if they are purchasing/drinking any non alcoholic drink. the Bar stools should be set aside for people actually drinking alcohol.

How about people that don't drink? Oftentimes they take up space. Seems to me they shouldn't be allowed either.

Are kids okay in restaurants?

in the bar is fine. at the bar, no. again, if you are not purchasing/consuming alcohol then you do not belong a the bar.

as for restaurants: be realistic.. the high end specialty restaurants where it takes 3 hours, do you really consider it appropriate..or fair.. to subject both the kid and the other patrons to such a thing?!

So If I'm in a bar with my DW she should not be allowed to sit with me at the bar because she orders a soda water while I'm having my scotch?

As for kids, I just can't imagine there are too many some twelve year old kids that would ever want to sit on a bar stool pounding back virgin mary's, while surrounded by a bunch of old fogies (US!) Think of it from their perspective, it's bad enough being stuck on a ship with their own old fogies, let alone having to deal with 2,000 or 3,000 more, and tipsy ones too!

I agree! I'm from the UK and pubs are places for families to enjoy time together in the daytime. They help create a lovely atmosphere. Some bars are over 21 and that's fine. The comments on this thread express a worrying, unhealthy attitude towards alcohol in society. So sad.

In my opinion, kids should see adults enjoying alcohol responsibly. We shouldn't hide it from them, nor should a parent in charge of a child be drunk. But a glass or two of wine doesn't hurt anyone, UNLESS you are planning to drive!

Excellent answer!! had the same experience in Spain, where I used to live many years ago. We cruise with a large group of friends most of the time, and our children sometimes show up on the Martini or Molecular Bar to tell us their plans. Nothing wrong with them staying for a short time with us. :)

Well said, I couldn't agree more!

And the loungers by the pool set aside for people actually using the pool? What about the people who sit reading or chatting with friends at Café Al Bacio long after their coffee has been finished?

As far as I am concerned it is inappropriate on a whole lot of levels. In my opinion, children should not be exposed to the bar scene day or night until they are of legal age. Quite frankly, as someone who has paid thousands of dollars to take a cruise I do not want to walk into a bar on a ship and not be able to find a stool or table because children are sitting there. We leave in just a few hours for Barcelona to pick up the Equinox for their trans atlantic cruise on Monday.

I think most of us are in agreement, and since we are conversing via posts instead of taking back and forth, meanings get mixed.

Nothing wrong with families in the lounges and in venues not restricted to adults-only.

If a kid saddles up and sits at the bar, that's not breaking some rule, just not seen much.

Not sure what the OP was concerned about - the whole 'sitting on a stool at the bar' seems like a stretch and shouldn't be any real issue. If it happens, it happens but not something to be worried about. If the issue is, you are bothered by seeing kids where people are drinking, then you have a problem cruising with pretty much any Cruise Line.

Remember the old joke about how to keep your Baptist buddy from drinking all your beer at a party...invite another Baptist over! It's all just perception.

And this whole 'sitting at the bar is for drinking alcohol' doesn't track at all. Sometimes one of us wants a drink and the other doesn't. Sometimes I'll have a drink then order a soft drink or water - you know, not getting drunk and all that. We are Not about to move because we are sitting at the bar. That is a bit weird of a 'requirement'. Do people actually sit and judge what others are imbibing? What's the difference between sitting in a lounge or sitting at the bar in a lounge.

Personally, I'd only sit at the bar if there wasn't other seating. Hard to socialize.

...you mean like this? Shame on me and another parent for allowing our kids to order a soda at the bar.

SHAME ON YOU!!!

How could you allow this? :( Didn't you see all those 'adults' being deprived of their libations because your two half-pints were hogging the bar stools.! Not to mention that poor bartender was losing out on all those massive tips!

I'll have you know that when my 5yr old granddaughter bellys up to the bar and climbs up on that stool, she tips very well after knocking off her Gin Martini.

She's been brought up properly!

Children are allowed to sit at the bar or in lounges unless it's Adult only.

That's where they order their drinks. There's no other place for them to get a Coke, a blender virgin drink, etc.

Thank you! That is a better question...what bars on Celebrity are adult only?

By way of background..I'm a childless 41 year old, married to an also childless 45 year old :-) I have no issue with children (with his or her parents) sitting at a bar if that is where their parents are sitting. Not sure why a parent would sit at bar if they have kids with them but if they choose to do it then so be it. Celebrity cruise bars are hardly "Coyote Ugly" (look it up if you don't know what I'm referring too)..no one is dancing on the bar getting all crazy. I find it very hard to believe any time spent at a Celebrity bar will scar a child :-)

I'm of the view that its often times beneficial for kids to see adults being responsible drinkers...they are subjected to so much reality TV now a days where that is not the case!! Its good to remind kids what non reality life is like!

By the way I'm going on a cruise with my parents and my husbands parents next month...do you think anyone will have a problem with us "kids" sitting at the bar with our parents :D

Perhaps the OP is just wondering if there are lots of kids sitting around in the bar area. I don't think this will happen even on a holiday cruise. Celebrity does not attract the large amounts of children like Carnival or Royal Caribbean( One of the reasons I love Celebrity). I have never in 3 cruises seen any children at any bar, even the Sunset bar. I am sure that they will go there to get a drink and then leave to go do something else, kids don't just sit around and talk, etc.
