Kon Tiki by Thor Heyerdal. Real life experience is one of the most exciting stories I ever read as a young boy and, It has always stayed with me. While onboard a grand cruise ship, and understanding what he did in a modern age, recreating an "old time" sea experience is amazing.:cool:

What do you enjoy reading? For example I like mystery and suspense, police and detective series and would definitely not read science fiction or romance.

I was just going to reccomend Ken Follet, but I was going to suggest Pillars of the Earth. Can't go wrong with any of these, though.

 

I hope she has a Kindle or something. that book is like 1000 pounds! LOL

I just finished reading The Book Thief. It took me only 2 1/2 days to read all 555 pages (on my Kindle.) But I think it probably would have taken me longer if I read it on a cruise ship with so much to do while on a ship.

Thank you for all the suggestions. I can't wait to check them out :). I do like light and quick reads while cruising... Something to enjoy on the balcony with coffee in the morning or lounging in the sun :)

Oh, yes! It's much less painful if the Kindle falls on my face when I fall asleep reading. :D

While I consider myself well read and versed in a number of what some might consider deep subjects every now and then I read something light and just for fun. I just finished all three books written by the gang from Duck Dynasty. Yep the Rednecks from West Munroe Louisania. None are much more than 200 pages but I found them a great read.

 

Happy, Happy, Happy by Phil the father was the best. A great read about the transformation of the human sole with a fair bit of humour on the side. Although you wouldn't know it to look at him you won't get far into the book before you realize it was written by a man with a Masters degree and a whole lot of personal faith and conviction.

 

Si-Cology by Si, Phils brother was easily the funniest book I have read in years.

 

The Duck Commander Family by Willie and his wife Kori was probably the most informative of the bunch and also sprinkled with a good dose of humour.

 

You don't have to be a hunter to enjoy any of these reads. It helps in places to understand their mindset like giving up a pro football career because it interfered with duck hunting season but certainly not a necessity.

Don't forget to check out the library on the ship. Many ships also have an exchange section, leave a book you brought, take a book someone else left. Maybe your suitcase will have a little more room for souvenirs if you leave books for others.

Thinking about picking up King and Maxwell by David Baldacci for our Liberty cruise next month. Very good writer with several excellent series. Also the Sebastian St. Cyr series from C.S. Harris is very good reading.

Hooman Majd's non-fiction account of his return to Iran with his American-born wife and child.

 

It is a good book getting a lot of coverage on NPR, etc.

I just read Flash Mob by Robert O'Connell. It was a mystery-comedy. A great vacation read. If you have a crazy family, you'll appreciate the humor.
