Captains Club rip

Is that a cheap shot at Carnival - or maybe Celebration, Clipper, Crystal, Clipper, Cunard?

Virtually, no one who had a plan to reach a certain level on Carnival when they switched to a day based system were disappointed (screwed). They gave everyone almost a year and half for people to book and complete cruises under the old plan. They ran the two systems simultaneously 10 cruises or 75 days. At the end of the year and a half (next month) it goes to strictly 75 days cruised.

:)

And as reported by many carnival reduced benefits. So one line controlled costs by reducing benefits the other by limiting the number of cruisers receiving benefits.

My choice would be to keep the higher level of benefits even if it took an extra cruise or two to obtain them.

I don't see the issue here actually?

OP says he has 8 credits * 30 - 240 points

OP says value of the package he is not getting is based on 14 day cruise

OP says he crusies in Concierge.

His next cruise in Concierge will earn 14 * 5 = 70

240 + 70 = 310 which is Elite. So OP would make elite in the next cruise.

Probably a good time for the mods to close this thread.

While I personally don't agree with many of the OPs comments, the purpose of a forum such as this is to give and get information. I did OK with the changes to the program but understand I wouldn't be too pleased if somehow after the changes I felt I had been put in a worse situation.

Life will go on for the OP and for all of you who posted here.

The beauty of this forum is we all have a right to our opinions and as consumers we all have a right to take our business where we want to.

Relax and enjoy your cruises.

I think you're correct.

Also, you didn't count the 25 bonus points everyone with 8 credits received so he was really at 265 and those 70 points put him at 335.

Sometimes people look at something quickly and overreact before they think things through.

EDIT: I just re read the OP's post

WHEN AT 8 Credits I was just 1 cruise in Concierge class or better away from Elite.

Now it will take at least 2 or more cruises to make up the difference and I don't appreciate it one bit.

He might have been taking a 5 day cruise in Concierge, not 14. (5 x5 =25 , 265 + 25 = 290)

5 day would leave him short.

That's what the the new system corrected - all of the short cruises that moved people up quickly.

This is hilarious! As I said before, what enjoyment I am getting from this hysteria over Captains Club...I think one woman told me when our cruise to Alaska was canceled after 1 year of planning the day before..."it's hardly September 11th, move on"...lol, what a joke wanting to call a lawyer...it's hardly September 11th now is it...

With my first Celebrity cruise not scheduled until next year, I've been more or less ignoring all the threads related to the loyalty program changes. But with some spare time in hand this morning, I sat down with my coffee and read this thread from start to finish. The more I read, the more I wondered: Troll???

The OP was taking the 3-day cruise to BECOME Elite FOR their Transatlantic. They didn't want to become Elite AFTER their TA.

Honestly, I can see his point, and I'm not sure he called Celebrity with a reasoned, measured, non-hysterical timeline of the facts, but I would have done that first.

We are two of those sneeky RCL Diamonds who were plesantly surprised to learn we would be Elite on X. The line's grand plan worked to a T on us. We have since sailed Equinox, Millie, Connie, Xped, and January will be our second Eclipse cruise (Jan 2015 will be our third) I checked our history to discover X has been more than fair with us. Our Century cruise in 2003 (a 14 point cruise) got us 30 points. Our 2 week AQ cruise last January (a 70 point cruise) got us 90 points. The one coming up will be 70, but that's okay. The fact is this program appears more than fair...and the boost to the next level for us doesn't mean much. We get the pkg, whether it's free or not, so the free drinks are of no value. We like the laundry and the internet. We're not losing it, so no harm. Thank you X for finally rewarding those with many credits, and by that I mean many more than us. We have a ways to go to the next level...and will enjoy the adventure getting there.

I have a very serious suggestion for the OP.

Cancel your 3-day cruise.

Take the money the 3-day cruise would have cost and use it to buy as many drinks, internet minutes, pieces of laundry, etc. on your TA that you feel would have been the equivalent of the "free" things you feel you would have gotten had you made Elite.

I think the money saved by cancelling would be better spent on a psychiatrist. He obviously needs professional help.

Had they done that, I would have booked TWO cruises in the next 6 months.

Had the showed the same courtesy, as the whipping boy of the cruise industry when it comes to customer care, CARNIVAL, did, I would had NO ISSUE.

From the 1st time I went on Celebrity I witnessed the benefits of being a captain's club Elite, as everyone went behind the "private event sign" and enjoyed the perks.

THAT IS WHY THEY HAVE A CUSTOMER LOYALTY PROGRAM to keep you cruising with them...DUH.. So I fell for the hype and kept booking Celebrity.

Now after they got ALL my loyal business they change the program. Well fool me once shame on me and I won't let Celebrity fool me twice.

There are many cruise lines and all of them involve ships, so it is NOT like Celebrity is all there is.

It is the principle of the issue. I worked toward something and they screwed me out of it.

I won't patronize a company that takes advantage of its clients loyalty or takes it for granted.

This post reminds me of the Frasier episode where Frasier and Miles went to a spa and kept wanting to go behind different doors thinking they were left out of something special...finally went throught the platinum(?) door and ended up in the garbage area!

The few they reduced didn't affect us at all -- I think it was something to do with a casino offer. The also reduced laundry to from unlimited to three bags each per cruise. We were able to get be on our recent B2B with only the dozen free bags available - we used 4 or 5

What they added was phenomenal :)

Hey pal, can't believe you are still raving on about this matter again today, you obviously have nothing better to do on Thanksgiving day. You should have been on a Celebrity cruise earning points towards Elite, instead of continuing to complain.

Did you even try and contact the Captains club, they are very accommodating if you treat them like you would like to be treated, but I doubt you did, you probably just enjoy bitching. I just hope I never have the bad luck of running into someone like you on one of my future cruises, that would be the only thing that could ruin it. Here's to hoping you come back to reality and enjoy what really matters in life, and it's not bitching about Celebrity status.

This is a brilliant and pragmatic solution. The only downside is OP misses the joy of the three day cruise, but the TA would be more enjoyable and they'll easily be Elite for subsequent cruises. I feel OP's pain, but it is what it is. Some people won, some, not so much.

Not Quite. He was trying to use a 3 day cruise to make Elite for his TA. He is obviously at least a 7 day cruise short of making Elite.

Trying to cheat the system, which in all honestly I would try to do is as well. (I'm sure most of us would do it if we could.)

He's just mad because the loophole has been closed. This program now I think is more fair by rewarding the amount of nights you spend on a cruise instead of how many you take.

Best response yet!! This is right on...trying to cheat the system and the loophole was closed! We were on a 30 day cruise on Azamara in a suite and got 3 points...with the new system it would have been 360...but that was not the way the system worked then so you deal with it and move on with life...

IMHO the op is so worried about having to go on 1 extra cruise to get his free drinks, that he is willing to cut off his nose to spite his face and cruise on a different cruise line where he would have to go on multiple cruises to get his free benefits. Doesn't sound like we are dealing with someone who is capable of making rational decisions. IMHO.

I think the manner of awarding points moving forward is very fair. Those who spend more and cruise longer earn more points, and that is how an award program should be. As in other recent conversions (RCI, Carnival), cruisers with a lot of shorter, less expensive cruises benefitted greatly from the conversion while those who had sailed in suites or on long itineraries weren't awarded new points that were commensurate with their sailing history.

Perhaps everybody who was trying to get to Elite on a short cruise should be thankful they weren't "dinged" for any other short cruises in the conversion instead of threatening lawsuits because they can't earn the same number of credits moving forward.

There are just as many, if not more, people who have posted on facebook that they are pleased with the new Captain's Club. It was surprising to me to read so many positive posts on facebook, because people that are pleased with something usually don't voice their opinions like those that are unhappy. But in this case, I was so happy to see all the positive posts, since there were many more than the negative ones.

I think the problem is we don't know how many points you have accumulated cruisingourmet.

It's hard to reason with you because we don't know if you are 20 points short or 120 points short of the next level.

If you're that close in points have you tried calling Celebrity? Have you thought about upgrading on your 3 night to a Suite?

I'm sure if you call and explain, they would give you the 25 points that they are giving everyone and then treat your significant other by upgrading to a Suite.
