Cost to Upgrade Drinks Package on Board?

This is not correct. I just called the other day. We have the 123 promotion, and I was able to upgrade only myself, and not my wife, for the $11.50 per day. You just have to call the cruise enhancements dept. it was real easy.

I will have to do this then. Thanks

I prebooked my upgrade and paid $11.50 per person/per day for at total of $161.00 for 2 for a 7 day cruise. Not a bad price to pay for a liquor package!!!!

One thing I was told it that if you were paying before you had to upgrade both packages, but if you only wanted to upgrade one, you had to wait till you were onboard. I wasn't going to upgrade mine, but since we got the Classic for free, and we saved so much money may as well!!!

Now I see that was wrong information, oh well. I am still on a cruise paying almost nothing to drink basically whatever I want, don't have to watch. So i am good.

We are booked on the 11 Night Italy & Croatia Cruise, 22 June 2014 - 03 July 2014. The 123 promo was running when we booked so we got the Classic drinks packages and on-board spend.

When we sailed last time we opted for the Premium Beverage Package and would like to upgrade our package. I've read all the posts and note that an upgrade from Classic to Premium Beverage Package is available for US$11.50 per person per day therefore does my '11 night' cruise mean I will be paying for 12 days or 11 days?

Whatever the length of cruise listed on Celebrity's website is the length you'll be paying for. The count the nights and days as the same. The count the first day but not the last.

Also, if you upgrade onboard, you can upgrade at any time, for the remaining days of the cruise. You get no refunds for prevous beverage spending and have to buy all remaining days on the cruise. On our recent sailing, they made these upgrades available all the way to the end of the cruise as far as I could tell.

Jenna

Does anyone know what happens if you pre-purchase a drinks package and pay before the cruise by credit card, if you also have obc and do not use it all whilst on board will they refund the cash to the credit card using the unused obc to fund the package instead of the cash from the credit card.

Definitely will NOT refund the drinnk package that was prepurchased on a CC with any leftover OBC. You will not even see the purchased package on your onboard account. The only reason you'll know you have it is it will be printed on you seapass card.

Whether you get a refund will depend on the type of OBC, and who issued it (TA or Celebrity). Most if not all Celebrity issued OBC is not refundable. You can however go to the casino onboard and take out whatever is left in cash, paying the 5% service fee.

Great, thanks for confirming. $23 isn't much but with it referring to 'days' wasn't sure whether the counted the last day.

Just upgrade this afternoon. $11.50 per person per day. Both people did not need to upgrade. There is now a $5 per day surcharge if you wait to do this at the pier.

Just off got off of Connie yesterday. We had the classic package as part of the 123 promo. We were told that if you upgrade or purchase any beverage package while in a Florida port, they will charge the 6% sales tax on your package. We waited till we left port to upgrade to the premium package and were charged $10 + $1.50 gratuity per day. No surcharges.

Figuring out the difference here

To upgrade package BEFORE cruise the cost is $11.50 per day

if you wait until you are on board it's $17.25?

Someone reported this was changing, but when we did this in late November / early December the price was the same. In fact they were advertising the upgrade price at most bars at $11.50.

Jenna

We have a 123 classic package. I'm certain it will be ok for my DH, but I'm not sure about myself. Can I just up grade onboard after a couple of days of trying out classic? Thanks

Yes, you can upgrade at any bars. In December there were signs at the bars offering the upgrades, for any remaining part of the cruise. You can't get anything back for what you spend/drank in advance, and you have to purchase all remaining days.

The downfalls of the classic package in my opinion: 1. If you go over the $8 limit for drinks you pay for the entire drink, not the difference. One $12-$13 drink over pays for the entire day at the premium price, 2. Sparkling waters are not included, 3. Not as nice a discount on bottles of wine over $40.

If you upgrade either before the cruise or while on the cruise, the cost is $10 per day per person + 15% gratuity for a total of $11.50 per day for each passenger. You may have to call back if someone only allows you to upgrade both packages instead of one if that is what you want. I have found that finding the right agent to help out does wonders. Some will argue but some will be so helpful.

What was stated earlier in this thread applies to when you purchase any beverage / package while still in the embarkation port -- they do charge a surcharge (tax) when this purchase is made, which is why you should either do the upgrade ahead of time or once at sea (3 miles out?), or the port will take their additional share. Once at sea, it should only be a total of $11.50 per day total per passenger for the days remaining in the cruise. You cannot go backwards, though. You cannot have it for a few days, decide you don't find value in it and then go back down to the Classic later.

No, that is not correct. This is a confusing thread with some misinformation, but if you read it again you will see that currently it is still only $11.50 per person per day.

I never knew you could do that....thanks for the information! With the drink package I might actually have some OBC left! :D

Just returned from our cruise and are pleased to confirm we saved a significant amount of money by not buying a drinks package. We did not go without and there are plenty of soft drinks , teas and coffees available foc to keep you hydrated throughout the day.
