Smoking policy on Celebrity Line

Just got off a X cruise and a person was sitting at the Martini using a E cig. Sitting there are bold as can be with a smug look defying anyone to say something. I seen a officer an asked him about it. Apparently they don't know policies or really care unless soemone complains. He walked off to a corner and got on his phone. A few minutes later he approached the offender and told him that it wasn't allowed. I then heard that person say to the bartender that he thought that he had his back and was diassapointed in him for not sticking up for him.

Rather sad that this person would want to bring a crew member into his rule breaking.

I'm an militant anti-smoker. I can't stand even the tiniest hint of cigarette smoke. I seemingly can smell it a mile away and it turns my stomach (probably because my parents were heavy smokers growing up).

With that being said, I can't understand why people make a fuss about e-cigs.

Just recently, I was in an airport and some guy sitting right beside me started "smoking" one. I was taken aback but soon realized that I couldn't smell a hint of smoke (or anything else) from his habit. He just continued to "smoke" for the next half hour and, even though I tried, I never smelled a thing.

Based on that experience, I could care less if someone decided to smoke an e-cig on a neighboring balcony. While I would report a real smoker right away. However, as long as I'm not affected by e-cigs, I say smoke away.

As a recently retired administrator, I can say that the problem with e-cigs is that they make enforcement of anti-smoking rules much more difficult. They look just like real cigarettes (red glow and all) until you get up real close. This puts an extra burden on staff. So most organizations seem to include them in the anti-smoking bans.

Actually, most e-cigs look nothing like cigarettes. Mine has a small white light at the halfway point that is merely an indicator of battery function. The idea that "staff" would have trouble telling the difference seems a bit far-fetched.

The reality is that discreet use of an e-cig is rarely noticed by anyone unless the user insists on being "in your face". Made the switch almost four years ago, am very discrete, and do not bother anyone. You would never even notice.

This is what I have noticed:

THAT certainly does! I've yet to see any like that but obviously they exist. Suspect they are one use and trash. They would likely be relatively expensive compared to what most of us use. Our initial cost is higher, but the batteries are re-chargeable and fluids are re-filled. Certainly far cheaper than tobacco.

This is what I have noticed:

Yes, that is why you noticed it. But the majority of e-cigs do not look like that. The one I used was a Blu. Which was black with a glowing blue tip. No one would mistake that for a cigarette. And those that you find in most vapor shops are not cigarette like at all. Some wish a cigarette look and feel, and as a result some cigarette-like e-cigs are being manufactured.

By the way, while I occasionally puff on an e-cig, it is few and far between now. Those Blu's got me OFF cigarettes. And yes, much cheaper than tobacco.

Thanks for listening. That is all.

Agreed. What makes it more difficult for staff is when they approach someone smoking a real cigarette to put it out and they point across the room to someone with something in their mouth you can't quite see, and they say well what about him, go tell him.... or people say well I see people smoking everywhere smoker no recognizing those were e-cigs.

Much the same reason airlines forced all devices off even with airplane mode, so they didn't have to look at every device from every person, just simply all devices OFF.

A staff member may not know from the distance it is or isn't a cigarette and then has to go deal with that situation.

The rule is the rule, I don't see what anyone should get away with skirting it.

The rule is no smoking and no e-cigs.

The rule IS NOT no smoking of anything that sends nicotine smoke in the air.

Smoking of anything on a cruise ship is not an undeniable civil right.

The problem communications is the language barrier, person-to-person. I reported, and noted. There are no smoke alarms, on the balcony. And the next step to stop smokers, in a balcony room, Lock-n-key. the balcony.

This one the only time I smelled the smoke, due to the direction of wind.

I did contact guest relations nicely.

Here is a video of balcony report, kept simple

You seem like a nice guy and I have no wish to become involved in an extended debate. I do believe that your scenario needed a lot of mental gymnastics to come up with.;)

And, as I'm sure you would agree, people break "rules" every day in all environments. Would you really rather I join with the smokers using real tobacco and add to the misery of the majority of the pax?

Yes people break rules all the time. Sometimes those broken rules come with consequences. I often speed, I sometimes get a speeding ticket fording so.

As to the gymnastics, I take the airline scenario straight from Airline flight attendants I know. I asked about 'airplane mode' and why it wasn't good enough and they told me why the policy was in place which

I don't care where you smoke what, as long as it's done within the guidelines and rules established by the establishment that has invited you on board. If the establishment allows smoking on deck 5 outside the casino, then smoke a whole mouthful of cigars there if you want! If the organization says you can't smoke a e-cig anywhere but outside on deck 5 outside the casino, then that's where it needs to be smoked, until such time as the policy changes to ALLOW the e-cigs anywhere.

A good guest follows the rules of the host. I good passenger follows the rules and regulations outlined in the cruise contract that was agreed to upon payment of the fare.

Mind you, I make a living selling e-cigarettes, hookah and all the other stuff that comes into play here. I myself am a non smoker, but I co-own some smokeshops with friends. I want everyone to be smoking (well, except myself LOL), but only where it is lawful and welcomed by the property owners.

So PLEASE, smoke, smoke lots. Just do it where it's allowed.

One of the reasons that we love X is their smoking policy and that includes the fact that it also covers e-cigs. I do not want to be near either activity. Celebrity is doing what if feels it needs to do to keep the majority of passengers happy and in today's society - that is a mostly smoke free environment. I won't come to the smoking section and I won't tolerate smoking or vaping in a non-smoking area. Someone vaping at the Martini Bar - I'll complain without a doubt.

Any smoking is not healthy :(.After smoke is very dangerous to any one's health .Any violator should be turned in & if continues escorted from the ship at the next port:eek:

Maybe Celebrity should establish a "brig" on every ship! Violators of any ship rules will spend the remainder of their cruise at this location. :D:D And the beat goes on......

Hey All,

I applaud Celebrity's Non-Smoking policy. My future wife smokes...and I hate it. I won't go near her after she smokes. No conversation...and NO kisses...until she brushes your teeth. So...I'm kind of a hater!:D

But I like to live my life in peace...so..."Don't Start None...Won't Be None"..is my policy.

What boils my blood, is the arrogant smoker, who breaks the rules and smokes on the balcony or other area's...and I have to breathe in their smoke!

Look...if you want to smoke and kill yourself...FINE...as long as you don't infringe on my right to breathe clean air!

If you can keep your smoke out of my area...fine...if you can't...well my friend...You've got Trouble....

Like I said..."Don't Start None...Won't Be None"!!

Respect me and I'll respect you....It's that simple.

D

Ummm, sorry, but I prefer to brush my own teeth! Thanks for the offer, though! :D
