Watching Channel 7 Sunrise today, heard a new term 'Upper Middle Class Bogan !'

 

Now I wonder which cruise line that species would cruise on?

 

I will take a guess, Celebrity, Princess? LOL.

Can't work out our category? We cruise HAL, Princess, and for a quick getaway from Sydney last minute P & O. We must be in the bogan set, as we enjoy every cruise. We feel that you can enjoy every experience, so long as you are at sea. There is always something you can find fault with, however much you pay, just go with an open mind, and you will never have a bad cruise.:D Barb.

Would this include those groups with tiaras or caps or t-shirts proudly proclaiming someone's birthday or would that be upper class?

 

It didn't matter, I had a good time as I always do on a a cruise (or any holiday in fact).

That is not strictly true. We Bogans can be very flexible -- we are able to move UP the social scale as well as moving down when the need arises.

 

Why lock yourself into one social scale?? -- ALA Mrs Bucket. No! -- some of us are perfectly capable of moving around.

 

Our most recent cruise was on Pacific Dawn to PNG (we loved her and it) -- the couple before that were on RCI - and the three before that were with Cunard.

 

I am certainly a Bogan -- but I am not sure of the upper middle class bit though. Lets just say that I am a Bogan who has traveled extensively and is financially independent -- I think they used to call people like that "Esquire".

I thought princess, as we are upper middle class bogans (which to me is a bogan with money/ reasonable income ;)),and there were plenty of us on board! One our diners was sent away due to wearing shorts on the 2nd night. He was told by the M'D, that 1st night they accommodate guests but after that expect & enforce the dress code!:)

I always thought that the 3rd Class passengers on the Titanic seemed to have a more fun time than those in 1st :) -- well, at least they did in the movie :)

One feels that we should not be cruising with wrong type (you know the ones, flat cloth cap - beer swilling socialists, ethnic minorities, persons of colour, the nouveau riche and God forbid - heathen's).

Is there such a line for other peasants to travel on?

 

On a more realistic note, people who stick labels on others are small minded and we should pity them as they are loosing out on the interesting interaction between 'types'.

EVERY Australian has some degree of "bogan-ness" !!!

The words used above - unsophisticated, manners, education -- are all relative terms . They are not absolutes. Some people are more educated than others, some people exhibit a higher degree of manners and sophistication than others.

 

For anybody who wishes to use this pejorative word- they had better consider what THEIR level of education is -- what THEIR level of sophistication is. Perhaps they themselves are less educated and less sophisticated than others -- so by definition, they themselves are Bogans (comparatively speaking)

Good one Barry, a Tuxedo wearing self funded retiree, Cunard cruising Bogan, makes you an upper middle class bogan, at least. I would have to knock out the 'upper bit' for myself as I do not have a tuxedo anymore, remember? I donated it to a Charity Shop in Lincolnshire, England, last year, it shrank.

Yes ...we have more than our fair share of Bogans in the Sunshine State...most imported from down south :D

 

It seems that they are all pretty proud of the Bogan Status. The Bne City Council was forever replacing the street sign...it had become something of a cult symbol.

 

Very little resistance for the BCC when approached to change the name.
