Hi Sherlock43031 - we just got off Voyager on the 10th and the smoking policy is: you can smoke on the port side deck outside the Windjammer and on deck 5 outside (port side again) in a small area.( And upstairs in the Vault they tell me very late at night, if you are on Voyager )

That was it! No cabins, no restaurants, nowhere else - does this help?

Smoking was allowed in ths casino on the Explorer

So yesterday I received my Guest Ticket Booklet along with my Colored Luggage Labels for our cruise coming up on 2-22-20l4 on Oasis of the Seas, I guess they came from my Travel Agent, who knows, who cares. Anyhow under the "Things to Know" area relating to the Smoking Policy, inter alia in part "smoking is permitted on all private ocean front balconies, including Loft Suite balconies"; "smoking is not permitted inside any stateroom or on interior private balconies that overlook the Boardwalk or Central Park": Then under Effective January l, 20l4 area "Smoking is not permitted inside any stateroom and any stateroom balcony".

 

With all that said, there is going to be some confusion and persons who smoke who purchased balcony units for that purpose. My feelings are that some persons are still going to smoke and it will take a long time to control, if ever. For all of our cruise trips and we have always purchased a balcony unit I (us) have never been bothered by smoking, maybe the Casino is overwhelming, but drinking, gambling and smoking all go together. When we are away next month for the heck of it I'm going to ask our room attendant for an ashtray and hear his take on it.

Considering today is the first day of most cruisers returning since the policy started, I think we'll see a lot more posts....both from those that weren't aware (I guess it's possible they haven't been reading CC the last several months) as well as those that were and provide experiences either as a smoker or a non smoker.

If you happened to be next to me on the balcony smoking and I paid for the balcony under the impression that their new rule went into effect on January 1st,2014 you would be hearing it from me. I have a severe allergy to tobacco and can go into a wheezing attack. I booked the balcony because they were deemed non-smoking.

 

I would be sure you would be thrown off the ship for violating the rule. I hope you know the rules and follow them. I know to stay away from smoking areas. How dare you do this because there could be someone with a severe allergy to tobacco who can get very sick from the smoke.

 

Let's just see how far you want to take this. I emailed Mr.Goldstein telling him how happy I am about the new non smoking policy. If I find out that people are smoking in areas that are deemed non-smoking I will be speaking with the Hotel Director and take it up to the captain if need be.

 

Not to be rude but as someone with an allergy to tobacco who in good faith booked a balcony knowing it was non smoking only to find someone like you trying to break the law. If I found out that the room attendant provided you with an ashtray to use on your balcony and its against the policies I would be sure your room attendant also gets into trouble for breaking the law.

 

I'm sorry to come off as rude but as a non-smoker smokers need to know that there is a true allergy to smoke. When I inhale tobacco I go into a wheezing fit, my eyes burn and start to water and my throat gets dry. I know what areas to avoid on the ship and I do my best to avoid them.

 

This is like a peanut allergy if you were told by the flight crew not to eat nuts then you would follow that order and not question it for fear the passenger can die from inhaling peanuts.

 

How would you feel if you told me please don't eat peanuts out on my deck because I have a severe allergy to nuts and I continued to eat them and you almost died? I would stop eating my peanuts and apologize because I know you could almost die. The same goes for smoking I would hope you would be kind and follow the rules.

OP - let us know how you make out with the ash tray request - Im guessing it will be denied but it will be interesting to see what happens.

 

BTW - OP never said he was going to smoke on the balcony - he was just going to "test" it by asking for an ash tray to see what happens

Yes. We just received our docs for our march cruse, and both the old wording and the new wording are in the docs.

A cabana is $200

sounds like smoking is the better deal if it's for the week

I received my documents for a life February cruise out of Sydney. In the FAQ section it says:

 

For the comfort and enjoyment of our guests, our ships are designated as non-smoking, however, we recognize that some guests smoke. Therefore, to provide an onboard environment that also satisfies smoked, we have designated certain public and private areas of the ship as "smoking areas" (unless prohibited by local government ordinance or law). .....

Cigarettes have no allergenic proteins therefore can not cause allergic reactions. Smoke is an irritant not an allergen. I just like to be accurate.

 

And I would calm down. There's no reason to get so upset. The staff will take care of any violators of this rule. Other rules they let slip but I think this one will be enforced.

Fact is, second hand smoke causes unpleasant reactions in a good percentage of the population.

 

Good news is that smoking is down to 18% of the US population!

 

And I am pretty sure the vast majority of those unpleasant reactions are in fact "Over Reactions" as in post #4 lol

Asia does, too, and they've already said it will not be in effect on Asian cruises. As I understand it, they let them smoke IN the cabins on Asian cruises.

I hate smoking and have friends that smoke and smoking around myself, affects me that i simply move away.

 

I get into heavy traffic with the vehicles creating smoke and pollution.Always best move away or similar to your complaints, they need to go into a 100 % pollution area?Best not go on Deck especially or in Port,as there are heaps of pollution,including smoke.

Thats how I read it to, but I wonder why? If they weren't wanting to smoke in spite of the policy, why would they care? I'm a nonsmoker and have no allergy and therefore don't care and wouldn't waste a moment of my vacation bothering with it. Jmho

Sorry mate, but folks distress caused by cigarette smoke is not an "over reaction," and laughing at the distress is disturbing to say the least!
