Evening Shows and Entertainment on the Eclipse

There are the regular production shows and then the guest entertainers.

I have always given credit and admired the talent of the dancers and singers on the ships while many have critisized them saying that they were no better than the summer performers at a amusement park. On this ship I would agree.

The entertainment was very weak and the performers in the production shows seemed no better than what you would see at the yearly high school play.

I went to every show. Many nights the theater was a little more than 1/2 full. One night they even had the balcony closed off.

Perry Grant had shows almost every night in Michaels Clubs and did a show I the theater for one night.

There was only one comic and no late night comedy.

The Illusionist was terrible and had the personality of a 🐴.

The house musicians as usual were very good.

There were two jazz bands. Ray Brown Jr Quartet and Dallas Gavin Trio.

The West Side Stings that played modern classical around the ship and in the Wine Cellars.

Mickey Llardi, guitar and vocals

The party band was Fusion

Some times they played recorded ballroom dancing music in the Sky Lounge.

If you are going for the entertainment you may be disappointed unless you are a Perry Grant groupie.

Most cruises that we have been on, the entertainment artists change, possibly weekly.

E.G

We missed Curaçao last Easter Monday(2013) due to high winds, therefore the new entertainers didn't join the ship.

As a consequence, a show was put together, at the last minute. The juggler previously mentioned put on a 20 minute set and Perry Grant performed in the Theatre. He was suffering from a sore throat ( or so he said) I was not impressed, so didn't bother to go to his late evening entertainment in the Sky lounge.

On our recent Infinity TA, the production shows were not put on for the first week, due to high winds.

What I am trying to illustrate is, don't book a cruise solely for an entertainer's performance.

In fact I'm not sure where you could find out who is to be on the ship. I have never known, but maybe that's because I've never tried to find out.

The production show artists and (probably) Perry Grant will have a contract, other performers are seen on a more casual basis.

Entertainment is very subjective. We have loved some shows that our seat neighbours hated, and vice versa. We disliked the signature production shows 'Eclipse' and 'Silhouette' for example. While one can only be impressed by the skills of the performers, aerial acrobats, jugglers and dancing are not really what we would define as entertainment.

The one exception to the general rule seemed to be the Chinese face changing guy - his theatre performance was absolutely rammed and we never heard anything except fulsome praise for him and his act!

Totally agree. You seldom get good answers to such a subjective question.

The comic on board during the Nov 30 sailing was Buzz Sutherland and that was on the 11th night. He was almost more wholesome than Red Skelton. I don't think he used one four letter word and that includes "food". He did voices for Disney. He was funny but I wouldn't put him on my short list. We enjoy comedy shows and this cruise had none except for that one. Some of the entertainers would weave some comical stuff into their act as most do but no others were pure comics.

Peng Fei Su who was part of the acrobat group had his own show doing magic. He was one worth seeing. The acrobatic group was great as usual but were only involved in 2 shows.

We have always found Celebrity to offer a good variety of entertainment and professional entertainers. This one was no where close to usual standards of what we have experienced on prior Celebrity cruises.

Except for the production shows on board that run for a few years and Perry Grant all of the other entertainers and acts will vary from cruise to cruise so there is nothing set in stone. Don't depend on what happened before or what others think, but you can still get a good feel for what the trend is/was.

Still no negative comments about him! he seemed very likeable and very talented.

Yes have to agree with that. There is good a variety of music and other entertainment and it is all very professional. Whether any one or two individuals will enjoy every aspect of it is another matter!

To our amazement, we enjoyed some of the game show type activities a lot more on Celebrity compared with what we saw on other lines.

Here are the evening shows that we (family of 4) saw at the Eclipse Theater during the last Eclipse sailing:

Rich Ceisler, comedian

we liked his good, clean humor. He came back for a second appearance during our cruise (1/2 an evening show).

Ian Finkel, xylophonist

he is pretty good, but we got bored pretty quickly. This was the only show that we left early.

Perry Grant, singer

we arrived to his show late. While it was obvious that it was immensely popular with the audience, his songs were not to our liking.

Bob Arno, pickpocket entertainer

he was very good. His brand of humor is unique and not to be missed.

Doug Cameron, contemporary violinist

as a family, we were mixed. Because I played the violin in my younger years, I was fascinated. He also came back later in the cruise to perform the other half of an evening show where Rich Ceisler did the opening half.

Fred Klett, comedian

this comedian was a hit with our family. He also came back later in the cruise to perform 1/2 of an evening show.

Eclipse - The Show

This is the ship's signature show and it is performed on the last formal night. It is not to be missed. It is a Cirque du Soleil style show and is very well done.

Your cruise was the 2nd one after the one that I was on. That shows how the entertainment can and does change. The guest entertainers on your cruise were completely different, but similar. We also had a violinist that was a female, she was talented but apparently didn't appeal to many as the theater was not crowded.

I am glad for you you didn't have the illusionist that we had, and it appears as if you had more comedians.

I basically agree with the assessment. In my opinion, the entertainment on the Dec 28, 14 night Eclipse cruise was week. Headliners were lounge type singer, a xylophonist, pianist, violinist, and two weak comedians.

We did enjoy some the standard performers, and particularly enjoyed the strings trio. The production performers were energetic and cute, but were not as talented as other we’ve seen on Celebrity or other lines.

We used the entertainment to keep us out of the tight casino, and it fit the bill for that objective, but I would not sail Celebrity for the entertainment. Other reasons – YES!
