Evening bags/ clutches on formal nights?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone, first time cruising in about five weeks. Ladies, do you bring evening bag(s) for formal nights?

Thanks.

I have a small gold bag that holds my sea pass and lipstick that has a beaded stretchy wrist thingy. very thin and takes up no room at all.

I was a first time cruiser last August and really wasn't sure about what to wear or take with me. I found an evening bag invaluable; I used it every evening to carry my sea pass, hankies and lipstick. During the day time I could put my sea pass in my trouser pocket. Many ladies had an evening bag, not just on formal evenings. Hope you find this helpful and enjoy your first cruise as enjoyable as I did.

yes, I bring one black small bag to put camera , lipstick , seapass etc., I also carry one of those handbag clips that hook on to the table so that my small bag which has a thin chain can hang from it and not take up any table space works great.

I've bought myself several wristlets in the basic colors, black, white, brown, silver and gold to cover anything I might wear.

They hardly take up any room in a suitcase.

They are the perfect size for a seapass card, lipstick, and my cellphone.

Use them all the time at home too when I dont want to carry my entire pocketbook.

yes, but i bring a clutch to match every outfit. i'm one of those girls who brings 7 pairs of heels for a 7 night cruise :D lol.

Good to know I'm not the only one!!:):) My "good shoes" and clutches have their own carry on bag!!:D:D

Over the years, with airline baggage restrictions being what they are, I have pared down my formal night attire to the basics and have found it very liberating:

1. One black cocktail dress that is worn on every formal night (no matter how many there are)

2. One black pashmina-type wrap

3. One pair of black strappy sandals

4. One silvery wristlet - less than the size of a standard evening bag and easier to hold on to in the casino

5. Some lightweight but glitzy costume jewelry

I know that wearing the same dress again and again will horrify some of you but my DH wears the same tuxedo or suit so why shouldn't I wear the same dress?

Baggal, you are not alone:). I have actually ditched the dress idea, and just bring some sparkly tops and/or jewelry to wear with the same black slacks I wear on any night. I also only bring one small black clutch that I use every night as well. When traveling, black is your friend. When I first started cruising (back when baggage was unlimited on airlines) I brought an outfit for every night and several pairs of dress shoes, purses, etc.. Those days are long gone. Some of it is my advancing age (I still care about how I look; I just don't care what others think about how I look:D), some of it is due to airline baggage fees, and some of it is due to not wanting to hassle with all that stuff. Traveling light is so much less stressful! Not everyone's cup of tea, but works for me for sure.

So you are the one. 😱

I agree. I wear the same suit and maybe change the tie. Probably wear the same white shirt. I am only wearing it for a few hours as required for dinner and then change back into more casual clothes.

Count me guilty - but lets multiply heels x 14 nights  then add in the evening bags plus daytime sandals, tennis shoes, flip flops, water shoes - oh and dh's - I need a steamer trunk!

I think that Celebrity wants you to use the one that they put in cabin because they always pass them out on the day of the formal night.

I've been on quite a few cruises with Celebrity and have only received sea pass holders and large bags in concierge cabins, never any small dress bag. What do they look like?

Same here, had sea pass holders, cloth bags and fold-into-smaller bag bags but not a dress bag
