Can anyone tell me why they have the bridge dark when they sail?

 

When you're in darkness your eyes tend to adjust, I think mainly by the pupils getting larger to let more light shine through. If the front of the ship is lit up, the bridge staff's eyes "think" it is bright and they don't adjust. The crew wants to see in the distance, and the best way to do that at night is to be in darkness.

We'll be watching, Scrapnana! looking for the torches/flashlights by the sign. Not too many of the "regulars" here but that's OK. White truck is there....lights are off on the bow...so it won't be long.
