Look, I'm a retired (sort of) concert promoter. I know the real overall numbers from all these past acts as well as the acts of the day. It is without question Lady A is currently an A+ act in all genres of music. They are one of the top grossing acts in concerts as well as sales of albums and downloads. To get them to do a concert on a ship is a big deal, but mostly because the agents at Creative Artists Agency bent over backwards to work with Carnival even though this whole thing is a logistical nightmare for the artists.

 

I'm just guessing here as I haven't studied the dates.... These concerts will mostly be midweek (Mon-Thurs). I'd guess that the artists management is booking these as off-night gigs around whatever weekend tours they are doing in theaters or casinos... Day of the week doesn't matter on a ship as it would on land. The price for a Tuesday night booking will be much less than a Saturday.

 

One thing I've wondered about is if Carnival will be providing pro-level back line gear (drum set, piano, amplifiers, effects, etc) so the artist can just fly in with their personal guitars and play. It would be a much bigger production if the artists need to bring these things...

Don't take this the wrong way (and its a bit off topic) but I would not go to see the Stones for free.....or Metellica. Saw Robert Plant singing with Allison Krousse (sp?) on Palladia and thought he was close to horrific. LAst time I saw Jimmy Paige (on TV as well), I thought his guitar playing had seen better days as well. I did love Zep in the 60's.....

Also looking at the dates, they're consecutive... so an artist is able to play one ship on Tues, then another new ship on Wed.

 

Makes sense.

 

And for the artist an easy gig, and an easy possible Carib vacation with the family during the down time.

The only one who'd interest me is Lady Antebellum and I've seen them several times, which means I wouldn't really seek an itinerary they would be playing on. If I happened to be on a ship that was (seems most they are utilizing it on are those shorter cruises that may need an extra boost) part of it and I was interested, I would do a ticket. It's more a take it or leave it for most

Kind of feel bad for anyone seeing Chicago on the ships. They are on the Grammy's right now and not too hot. For a band known for their horn section, they are terribly out of tune. Kind of sad, actually. They were one of the ones I might have gone to see.

 

Not sure if things have changed or not, but I saw Chicago co-billed with Earth Wind & Fire about 3 years ago and it was one of the best shows we had ever seen. They had a very different line-up than in their heyday, but it was a great show.

Related question... Did Carnival post what the ticket prices would be for specific acts on specific cruises? I know there is a price range for non-VIP seating, but can I tell how much tickets would be for a show on a cruise I am interested in booking?

I LOVE the idea of a concert, especially with one of the awesome groups/artists listed.

 

Living in New Zealand, we miss out on a lot of shows other countries take for granted, and would absolutely jump at the chance to see any of them live!

 

Unfortunately there don't seem to be any concerts scheduled on our cruise (Splendor, 6/17/14) so we miss out :(

I love the idea and would gladly attend most of the concerts offered at what I consider a reasonable price.

Took another carnival email survey about my last cruise. It also mentioned acts I'd like to see. There was a space to make comments and I requested the steel band music, as well as softer music in the lounges (piano, guitar) especially at cocktail hour-before dinner.

Nothing against them, because many have great songs and are talented.

 

Its just not worth the extra charge to cruise.

 

Now for me if Dave Matthews Band, U2, Springsteen or Jimmy Buffett had a concert on there, that's another story. Definitely would consider it.

With the right artist this might appeal to me. I wouldn't pay for the VIP experience, but it would be something different to have a headliner on a cruise, but as some have stated, the shows are apart of the general experience with cruising and most of the time its no big deal whether we go to a show or miss it.

In 2012 Lady Antebellum grossed more concert revenue than Dave Mathews.

I think in a round about way you got my point. I said, "Now for me" it would be the artist that I may book a cruise to get a little closer seat to.

 

The artists come to my home town, in some capacity. I don't live in a big city, or even a medium sized city.

 

They work their butt off and again are good, but they aren't tough to get tickets to see, and they aren't expensive acts to see either.

 

Amusement parks usually run summer promotions with acts like these, and its usually just a way to drive people to the park, no added cost (except when its something like a Halloween after hours party).

 

There are probably people out there who would love to get a ticket, as well as a opportunity to meet one of the artists listed.

 

In my opinion, this is a nice "why not" type of thing, that may add a little extra revenue to Carnival. There will be people who are looking at a block of weeks on a few ships, and see book a particular cruise, because there is a opportunity to see a live concert.

That would make even less since, why have a cheers program, just build it in to the price. Why charge for the steakhouse, just build it in to the price. Good point, but a specialty restaurant is different than a concert from a nationally recognized artist.

 

I guess the whole concert idea seems silly when you put it that way.

About 2 years now. Take a look if you allow them to take autogiros from you. $2 a day per person goes to a pool that includes entertainment.

 

That's when we went back to cash tips.
