Dumb idea. Carnival needs to invest the resources into their onboard entertainment.

I would ZERO interest to see any of the acts that were announced

That's just the thing here. They're not investing resources. Assuming that tickets sell, the revenue will pay the band, and hopefully a bit left over for Carnival. This is a way to generate interest/revenue without cost. On the other hand, if they were to improve their entertainment overall, that would represent an increase in costs, and guess who pays for that?

If Carnival brought Lennon and Harrison back to life and reunited the Beatles, people would still be unhappy. If you don't like it, don't do it. Simple.

Exactly. Been said a million times already.

Here's what a lot of complainers would like to see:

Nightly concerts on every ship by The Rolling Stones, U2, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Madonna, The Beatles, Jimmy Hendrix. Free of charge of course, AND, no increase to cruise fares.

Live in reality people.

Wow! I am an adult going with my adult daughter, so should I demand that the club you dump your kid in so you don't have to deal with them is shut down too? Or perhaps since I can't drink I should demand that all bars are shut down to the alcoholic crowd? Of course there is also the unaccompanied teenagers running around acting up with no parental supervision, so should I request a ban on all teenagers? It's not complifrickencated! If you don't like the acts, don't reserve them! But saying they are stupid, and suggesting to get rid of something because "It doesn't suit you" is why this country is so screwed up! All the selfishness on this board is astonishing! FYI I am booking a cruise just for an act, and this performer has several current hit albums and has been a very big deal as of late. He drew in 22,000 fans at the Boston Hatch-shell recently alone! The concourse was full, and people were standing around the place just to get a glimpse! County fairs my foot! Perhaps some people need to stop living in 1964!;)

Very well said, I don't play bingo and have never spent a dime in a casino so maybe I should demand that those be replaced by something else that I would enjoy. People have to realize that there are thousands on each of these ships and there is no way that everybody is going to be happy with what is offered. Just pick a cruise that offers things that you personally like and let others enjoy the things you don't like.

I'm willing to pay more for a cruise if the entertainment onboard will improve.

We were onboard the Carnival Imagination in early December and we saw Epic Rock and Divas. They were two of the best production shows that we have ever seen on a Carnival ship.

Then the next week we cruised on the Carnival Sunshine and every show was cancelled. No shows all week. We were given various excuses all week why they were cancelled.

I can only imagine the hell storm on these boards if Carnival ever did make improvements AND raise fares as a result. Somehow, I don't think that would go over too well.

May be true, but the fares can not go any lower can they? I seriously doubt anyone would really complain if fares were raised $5-$10 pp per cruise, if improvements to entertainment were made.

Seriously?

Do you not think that Carnival knows a little bit about the market? If they could noticeably improve their product but only adding $5-10 to the base fare, and maintain their profit margin, AND customer base, is there any good reason they would not have already done this?

I thought I saw a post where John Heald said on Facebook that the casino will be open in Nassau but not Cozumel. I thought I read that on here.

I get the gripe with the casino not being open, but there must be other things to do. I know, because I don't go into the casino often and I'm usually up @ 1am and later. Not always in my cabin either. And like I said before, this leaving the port late stuff isn't new. I know we left Nassau @ 1am last year. Royal Caribbean pulled out @ 12:30. This couldn't have been the first or last time that happened. Everyone managed.

I don't do facebook, so haven't seen that the casino would open in Nassau, not have I read that in any of the threads. As I stated, I am not against the idea, it just doesn't appeal to me and DW, that simple. We book a cruise that fits the date (s) we want and the ship we want, not entertainment. This will not keep us from booking a cruise that happens to offer a concert, but it also will not cause us to book a cruise.

I do not pretend to have any idea what CCL profit margin is. You stated people would scream if CCL raised fares and offered improvements to the cruise experience, and I happen to disagree.

I agree with you. There's only a handful of people I would book a cruise to see do a concert on it. And I highly doubt any of them would be offered. I'm not into the entertainment either. But the idea/concept I do like. With the list as it is now, I would only pay to see Jennifer Hudson or Chicago, but I'm not going to change anything around to see them. So we pretty much agree. ;)

As for improving entertainment overall, the official announcement said other parts of it would be improved upon. So we'll see. The only thing I would like for them to do is replace the DJ on the Lido Deck with the live Caribbean bands like before. Not sure why they won't just give in and make it happen.

When I said people would scream if they raised fares to fund improvements, I obviously wasn't talking about something in the $5-10 range. Come on now.

Perfectly said. While I would not specifically book a cruise for a concert, it may lead to a decision to choose it over another if it fit all the other requirements for that vacation and the entertainer was someone we would like to see. IMHO this just gives more choices for people who prefer this type of entertainment and are willing to pay for it.

By the results of this poll, there looks to be a big enough percentage of people willing to pay for it to make it a worth while option for Carnival to add to some of its ships. If its not for you then pick another cruise or just don't buy the ticket....after all there will be other options like the doing things at the port, comedy clubs, dance clubs, etc. While some venues will be closed, many will not.

Time will tell if it is a success for Carnival or not. But the passengers have a choice and no one is twisting their arms to pick a cruise with it or to go to the concert if they don't want and I can't believe there wouldn't be any other options for them. These are probably the same people complaining about the game shows, passenger talent shows, or marriage shows....and for all we know those might be the shows being replaced so they wouldn't miss them anyway:rolleyes:.

At the end of the day, fares have to go up. Believe it or not, we all will be better off if and when it happens. Whether that is tied directly to enhanced entertainment is another whole subject. Simple supply and demand (if these types of things are successful, and I think they will be) will take care of the rest.

As to why, another poster stated CCL can not make the changes and/or improvements and maintain their profit margin. After 18 CCL cruises, I would say DW and I like CCL, but lets face it, they are a bargain cruise line. Low fares with no frills. That is fine but sometimes we want a little more, and don't mind paying more if that is what it takes.

The $5-$10 pp increase was a little facetious, but use the $10 pp scenario. On the Dream or Conquest size ships, that is more than 4000 passengers, which would be $4,000 plus. Are you telling me CCL can't replace the DJ on Lido with a 2-3 person calypso band in the Caribbean for this $$ amount? Just using this as an example, but eventually CCL is going to have to raise fares, whether making improvements or not, or they will have to make additional cuts.

I've said it here before: they will do whatever they can, to remain the least expensive cruise line and retain their customer base. So, as we've seen in recent years, that means making improvements (cuts in disguise) that either represent a reduction in cost; an increase in potential revenue; or an increase in customers. I belive all the changes they have made thus far, have made perfect sense.

Here's the way I look at it...

My wife would love to see Daughtry. If I took her to see him in Chicago (if he's even coming here) I would pay at least twice as much for the tickets, plus transportation, etc. And... I would still be in Chicago. :D Now, I can take her to see Daughtry and be on a cruise and not in Chicago in December thumb.gif

WOW, hadn't thought about the fact that since the ship will stay in port on the "Concert Evenings", everything else will be pretty much shut down. That will effectively KILL one evening of the cruise, unless you spend the extra bucks to see that concert. BUMMER!

"SKY"

I think that this might give you a chance to find some entertainment in the port, if you don't want to go to the concert. I like the idea of being able to stay off the ship in the evening!

From what I understand, the casino will be closed on a concert night until after sail away, which is scheduled for 1 am, which means they won't open until at least 1:30 am. For us, this is a take away. This is not a deal breaker, but having the option of a few hours a certain night in the casino at decent hours has been eliminated.

I agree. If we don't go to a show, we spend our time in the casino. We have no intention of going to a concert so that means that we now have nothing to do on those nights that have the concert. It's a take away for us.
