LindaO Posted January 30, 2014 #3 Share Posted January 30, 2014 I am sure that without the "Love Boat" I never would have stepped aboard my first cruise on the Sovereign of the Seas... With a tear... a final Hail and Farewell to the beautiful lady, Pacific Princess
dancinman66 Posted January 30, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 30, 2014 so sad, but they all end up there some day she really revitalized cruising and made it popular with the love boat long time since was on her here in Sydney
Rare John&LaLa Posted January 30, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 30, 2014 We used to choose a character and whenever they spoke you had to drink. :D great way to get warmed up before heading out on Saturday night. 80's were great
CarpeCerevisi Posted January 30, 2014 #6 Share Posted January 30, 2014 If a ship needs to die, better to die in her own element. Better to be sunk as an artificial reef than to end up as razor blades.
mr. godfredo Posted January 30, 2014 #7 Share Posted January 30, 2014 Sad to see her that way!:( I remember while growing up, the Love Boat episodes and always wanting to be fortunate enough to go on a cruise! Everytime I go on a cruise now, I think we all live out a little of the Love Boat fantasy! Watch out for the kissing bandit!!!!:D
davy jones Posted January 30, 2014 #8 Share Posted January 30, 2014 Through the TV show, that ship got a lot of people interested in cruising. But even the Oasis will eventually have a similar demise.
Rare A&L_Ont Posted January 30, 2014 #9 Share Posted January 30, 2014 I found some video on Youtube of it coming into the ship breakers yard. They even say that it was taking on water, during a storm, while it was making it's final journey.
Rare orville99 Posted January 30, 2014 #10 Share Posted January 30, 2014 (edited) My parents last cruise before my mom died was on the Fairsky just before Princess acquired her, and our first cruise on the Sky Princess was shortly after she changed hands. To see two elegant old dames of the sea side-by-side in such an undignified ending is just sad:( Edited January 30, 2014 by orville99
Esmerelda Posted January 30, 2014 #11 Share Posted January 30, 2014 (edited) Wow, lots of good memories with that ship from the 70's and 80's. I probably would have never been interested in cruising had it not been for Captain Stubing and Doc, and so on. What a great memory. I'm glad she is being laid to rest in a yard rather than sinking. RIP Pacific Princess, :( Edited January 30, 2014 by Esmerelda
sellwingri Posted January 30, 2014 #12 Share Posted January 30, 2014 My first cruise was on the Sun Princess and they played the TV show 24x7 on 1 of the channels. The show is on TV every Sunday at 2pm ct and I watch it every week. Just another way to get my cruise fix for the day!

counsdr Posted February 1, 2014 #14 Share Posted February 1, 2014 My daughter and I sailed on her when she was THE BIG RED BOAT. Every time we went to the bar on the pool deck with its aqua tile mural, we thought of Isaac! RIP LOVE BOAT.
counsdr Posted February 1, 2014 #15 Share Posted February 1, 2014 Oooooops, my mistake. She wasn't the Big Red Boat, it was her sister The Sun Princess that was sold to Premier along with the Oceanic. Sorry!
BonTexasNY Posted February 1, 2014 #16 Share Posted February 1, 2014 "Love, exciting and new. Come aboard, we're expecting you". Who can hear that and not think of exotic ports of call, balmy sea breezes, Captain Stubing, Julie, Doc, Isaac and Gopher? Glad I grew up with that in my life. It made my first cruise 22 years ago so special and exciting. I actually felt I was ON the Love Boat :)

smalltimecruiser100 Posted February 2, 2014 #18 Share Posted February 2, 2014 I remember seeing the Pacific Princess docked in St Thomas when we took the Sovereign (7 nts) back in 1988 and remarked how small it was compared to the wonders of television making it seem large. Sad!
Irene7 Posted February 2, 2014 #19 Share Posted February 2, 2014 Iv'e never had the pleasure in sailing on her, but I grew up watching the Love Boat and I actually own the first 3 seasons on dvd, so to me she is also an old friend. I am not one that would prefer to have her sunked, since these ships are bilt with the hope that they never sink, I do not want her under water. Good Bye Old Girl :(

lovetocruiserccl Posted February 2, 2014 #23 Share Posted February 2, 2014 I loved the Love Boat. They should have turned it into a floating resturant and casino. Sent from my SM-N900V using Forums mobile app
