Won't tell u my secret before you board but will let you know that once you board visit the guest services and then go back again at 4pm when everyone has boarded and for a small fee I got upgraded from inside to suite

And how long ago and how often was that?

For both, before I got on the ship and from guest services after everyone boarded and the fee was $ 500 from inside to suite total not per person and this was more then a 7 day cruise so double points also came with the suite which helped us hit diamond plus faster

But a visit from the mythical free upgrade fairy??!! LOL!! I don't think she

exists. I am "D plus" and she has never appeared to me....just in my dreams.

Sigh....... :(

Well remember when we met on Jewel OTS? That was when we had been upgraded to a JS. We have had multiple including on Song of America. Just got one to a JS on Enchantment without any notification. Don't give up ;) Hope to see you guys again - maybe at SB on MI!!!

I cruised with Royal for the first time last month and the day before the cruise I received a call from the upgrade fairy. We booked a window cabin and we were upgraded to a superior balcony cabin. I have cruise 17 times on other lines and this was the first time I was ever upgraded. It was also my first balcony. If Royal was trying to win us over it worked.

As soon as I got home I booked a balcony on Allure

Did the upgrade get charged to your sea pass or we're you given the option to pay in a different form?

Wow...nice! :)

Though with the new changes, I wonder if they still do that?

Hello Ian!! :)

That is great about your upgrades! Could not have happened to a nicer couple!

Maybe some day the upgrade fairy will actually grant me my wish. I will keep

dreaming!

Hope to see you on a future cruise also! I think we may be missing each other by

just one sail date on the Legend in February 2015. Drats!

Here is some information about the Upgrade Fairy:D:

First of all her name is Mrs. Goldstien(Adam's wife)

Second in order to get a call you must pick a number any number and keep it in your head and hold on to that number.

Thirdly the Upgrade Fairy only calls during the week and if its the weekend she will be very generous and possibly give you a better cabin than you bargained for.

When the Upgrade Fairy or her delegates call you say the following Magic Spell

"Upgrade Fairy Upgrade Fairy" Mother of The Seas. Please Bestow an Upgrade on(your name)"

Once you got visited by the upgrade fairy possibly you will want to play slots to encounter the "Casino Fairy" now thats an entirely different fairy:D

Isn't there just something I can put under my pillow? ;)

Definition of "fairy"

1.

a small imaginary being of human form that has magical powers, esp. a female one.

Nothing more magical than getting a free upgrade when you least expect it. Unfortunately I'm not talking from personal experience. One day...........

There are paid upgrades, and then there is the upgrade fairy.

Our very first cruise on the Celebrity Mercury, we had booked a Sky Suite guarantee for an Alaska cruise. When we arrived at the terminal, and handed over our documents, the agent went to look for our boarding and room cards, and came back empty handed. He asked us to take a seat and wait till they could get everything straightened out....and we were assured that it would only take a couple of minutes.

Long story short, we sat in the waiting area for about 30 minutes, when a very nice lady appeared from the ship, and came directly to us, introduced herself, appologized for making us wait, told us that there was some sort of mix up, and all of the Sky Suites were taken, but wanted to personally escort us aboard, and she "hoped" that our new accomodations would be satisfactory to us.

When she opened the door to our new cabin, there was nothing we could do to try to keep great smiles as she showed us our Royal Suite. What a way to start our experience with Celebrity.

Yes, Martha, there is an "upgrade fairy"!!:D

We have enjoyed more, but that is another story.;)

IMO the "fairy" is more fiction than fact and like most on the boards it is highly suspect......:D;)

Joe, some are lucky with the "upgrade fairy", and others have encountered the "up sell fairy". You know the one, that pitches you, for only a few dollars a day more....:D

The "up sell fairy" that has really great deals, is also quite allusive, but comes out of hiding once in a while, and sometimes has some really great deals!:)

That's what I am waiting for. The up sell fairy. I want a promenade room.

We have been upgraded twice when booking direct with RCI, never with a travel agent. Both upgrades were on cruises that were overlapping the end of summer school holidays here in Australia. So people who have never or rarely had upgrades might need to check if they are always traveling at peak times?

Also we have heard and found that they generally upgrade one level only. So when we were lucky enough to get a grand suite we had already paid full rate for a junior. We did pay a small fee for that upgrade, but $300 for a14 nighter was in our opinion a fantastic bargain.

You look at the maths, there are a lot of inside cabins and balconies, and as people get upgrades to suites the flow on has a bottleneck.

We also had a couple very unhappy last cruise that we got upgrades from balcony to junior suite. They however had booked their disabled cabin through a TA by ticking the disabled box more than a year in advance. They were getting blisters from all the line dancing and exercise activities they were doing. It was disgusting that they would do that and then still expect an upgrade. Yes I have written to their ta advising that these people are bragging about this loophole.

So they thought that by saying they were disabled, they would get a free upgrade? And it seems that their disability was mental. Is that correct? :p

I heard one time that the only way you can get upgraded is if you don't book a specific room but just a category. Is that wrong? I always wondered if you booked a certain room and really wanted that one, could you possibly be knocked out of it by the upgrade fairy. Maybe I'm crazy too but to me an interior on the 8th deck is better than an ocean view on the 3rd. Just wondering about that. It was a travel agent that told me never expect an upgrade if you select a cabin...

But you have to select a cabin, don't you?
