Clothing Optional Cruise

I'm tempted by BN's cruise on the Constellation in 2016 but can't quite get DW onboard. It would be a very big experiment for us that lasts for ten days.

If the cruise would be your first exposure to nudism, I wouldn't recommend it. It should be easy, however, to plan a short day or weekend visit to a local nude resort to "test the waters" so to speak. It is true, it's not for everyone, but if you are considering it, you will likely love it once you try. Still, it's better to start with a shorter time frame that is easy to exit if it is not for you.

No idea where you are in MN, but if you go to the AANR website, http://www.AANR.com they have a club locator under the "Places to Go" tab that will show you what clubs are in your area.

"I am surprised that there is such a thing as a "clothing optional" cruise;"

Hal should stay away from these type of charters, opens the door to trouble...

Nude charters have happened on HAL for years - and you were oblivious of it - but that "trouble" you are so afraid of has obviously not materialsed. So the issue is with you.

Sere they nude for the trip to Half Moon Cay?

Yes, I have seen pictures of nude people at Half Moon Cay while on a nude charter.

I would be surprised myself. My question is: Where do those in the nude carry the handkerchief? Sometimes one sneezes or has a need to blow a nose!

My bathing suit has no pockets so nowhere to carry one, but if I'd have to use one I could find a tissue somewhere ;)

I didn't think clothing was an option on a nude cruise.

Clothing would be optional: a spouse may not be a nudist but could be OK to travel and be around nudists.

Yup. We had the same. We live in Canada. We had someone tell us ad nauseam how bad our gun control laws were and how awful our universal health care system was (dirty hospitals, nurses wore burkas, cannot select own physician and on and on and on).

Sad thing was I do not think that he had ever been north of the Carolinas. We had another lecture the following night on US politics. We did not stay for the third night's lecture...it was in all probability on religion.

This was the last or second to last time we did assigned seating in the MDR.

I think that the whole healthcare debate is weighing heavily on many Americans all the more reason to leave it behind and have a worry free cruise. To me it would be more fun to learn about each others country and their cultures.

No need to apologize. It can happen anywhere. The gentleman could have just as easily hailed from another country. It was not his county or state of origin that was the problem. It was his mouth.

It made us appreciate the other wonderful people we have met on cruise ships. We did feel sorry for his wife though. She was clearly embarrassed.

Just curious… Did anyone ask him to change the subject? It might just be me but I think I would have asked him to put a lid on it, that would have saved everyone at the table and especially his poor wife!

It has been my experience that the spouse of a lout is usually relieved to have the attention and venom turned on strangers. It seems to provide the spouse with a bit of respite.

While I don't believe that political views have any place at a cruise ship dinner table how the heck did we go from political differences to venom?

Sorry for "venom", didn't mean to upset anyone. Just projecting my own experience with a venom-filled woman ;) whose spouse was VERY relieved to have me be the target for the entire meal. I bet he enjoyed that dinner more than any he'd had in years. She was venom-filled, I didn't mean to suggest that all unpleasant or uncomfortable discussions are venomous.

No one said anything. I suspect people voted with their feet.

On reflection we thought it was quite funny simply because he so far very away from reality. His comments were completely void of fact, knowledge, or personal experience. We just assumed he was spouting some nonsense that he had read or been told and we found it difficult to believe that anyone would believe that stuff hook, line, and sinker so to speak. It happens.

I think he was one of those people who are, by nature unhappy. Our tablemates from Washington State were also cringing. Perhaps the gentleman had some issues that we were not aware of.

We never engage in discussing politics, money, or faith when we travel.

Cruise lines are a business.

Clothing optional cruises are all about $$$$, Just like any other charter.

"Nudism is a Billion Dollar industry and growing"

And so is melanoma...

?? I'm not sure what one has to do with the other. Sunscreen is very prevalent in the CO community. I'm the epitome of Irish with red hair and fair skin, I do NOT tan, I have two colors - white and lobster. I always use sunscreen, textile or nude.

And I just went a checked the current charter (Celebrity Constellation in February 2016) - 1 of the penthouse suites is booked (at $20,000 for the cruise), all of the Royal Suites are booked (as $12k per) and many many of the rest of the suites & more than 50% of the aquaclass cabins are booked, at $5-7k per stateroom.

And we're still 2 years from the cruise. I believe last cruise they sailed with fewer than 40 open cabins. I wouldn't be surprised if this sold out. There's a LOT of money available for the cruise lines out of these charters.

For anyone that this would be their first experience, I'll 2nd the call to check AANR for a local club to try before taking the plunge on something like this. :)

The way things are today, unfortunately, the nonsense he was spouting could have likely came from the news media, what they report is very often void of facts. I agree no politics, faith and money on my list of things to speak about on a cruise. Well, I must admit money sometimes, referring to what I left behind in the casino….

I bet melonoma is just as prevalent amongst the textile folks.

I don't think so..I believe that nude parties are so outdated, in the seventies yes, understandably, but now with so more knowledge, in the health industry. When I look at some of the pictures of nude cruise lovers, they should stay home, their bodies have a lot more exposure to sun than 'normal' sized bodies..And I don't care if they wipe my chair in the Ocean bar I still have to sit on it...

I think there is a definite skin cancer problem if the nudist is fair complected. I know I have to be careful as I have had a problem with skin cancer on my back

On our recent cruise, I saw a shirtless guy with a very hairy chest lean into one of the stations in the Lido to serve himself. Not only was I was totally grossed out by this, but I thought it was very rude and unsanitary. I can not imagine people walking around naked in this venue.

Sitting around on deck or in the pool sans clothing, I get it - but walking around inside the ship? What can possibly be the point of this and what satisfaction can anyone possibly derive? Towel or no towel, to me it is a hygiene issue and I would not want to be on the cruise the following week, or for that matter, for quite a while afterwards.

I could care less what satisfaction one would get on a clothing optional cruise. Each to his own.

I don't see people knashing their teeth and worrying about what went on in the stateroom prior to their arrival.

From my perspective it is simply live and let live.

You know what they say, don't knock it until you have tried it!

don't get it, do you?

Some DO, some DON'T. Lets agree to disagree. Just put a month or so between our sailing and yours, and most of our cooties will be gone! But watch out for your stateroom, people are naked in there all the time. ---Happy Sailing
